What's Considered 'too Long' To Be Playing A Game?

I loaded up my old pokemon file and realized the game clocked had sad I have spent over 280 hours on it. Final Fantasy 12 I'm getting near that point too.

Now I'm not asking about MMORPG's such as WoW or Everquest. Because there's always something new to discover and someone new to meet. I'm talking about linear straight forward console games...

How long do you think is too long to spend on a game?

Depends on the game, of course.... but in my opinion, if you beat every monster, complete every side quest, and have every skill covered by at least two party members and max equipment on all of them, you should STOP PLAYING.

But I want to perfect everything. Like currently I'm working on Final Fantasy 3. The clock is maxed out at 99:59:59 and I got everyone to level 99. But I want to get every single job skill level to 99 with all 4 charactors...I've become obbssessed...

If that's the case, I recommend Runescape. There are 20-someodd skills to max out (it will take you years), and when you do, you will receive the respect of greasy 35-year-old basement trolls the world over.

Haha! Well, I'm not doing this to make other people happy or impress them. I feel I have to do it myself. If I don't perfect it and I just set it aside it'll bug the hell out of me untill I finally do perfect it...

You could channel your fervor into something constructive?

I loathe video games, except for Dance Dance Revoution. I could play that shit all day.

So, in my opinion, like ten minutes is too long on a video game, though I have been known to die in Frogger for a solid twenty before declaring the game 'stupid' and moving on to better things, like reading shiny magazines.

I guess I'm somewhat biased.

This isn't what I thought it was. I thought the thread was about at one sitting. (My brother and I used to play Atari for hours and even forget to eat).

I'd say there isn't any too long. Why stop if you are still having fun?

Who cares? As long as it entertains you, and you're not neglecting anything important in real life, the total hours don't mean anything. A few hours a day add up I'll admit! But as long as you don't grow roots infront of the tv screen by playing too long of intervals between breaks, you're alright.

Right! That's how I feel...but I was just curious as to people's opinions...

Everything should have SOME moderation to it. Perfecting hobbies is great, but finding things to do to better yourself and construct your life or to better society should be somewhat of a priority. Wait....fuck society....just make sure you make time to make something of your life.

with that said

When the cartridge's circuitry fails, that's when you no longer play that game.

not even then, that's just letting you know to take a quick break and frankenstein that game together with another busted game to get it to work!

Mega man fightiting Metroids?! Whatever.. BLAST EM ALL!!!!

Not long, but I tend to get bored easily with video games and go 2 or 3 months between playing sessions.

And on a somewhat related note, I'll never date a guy who games more than 2 hours per day, unless I am at work or out of town. I'll give up time together for work, school, family, friends, sleep, etc. I'm done with sacrificing quaility time for video games or role-playing games.

From a GF's perspective? If your not playing it with her, 1 hour (or shes not home/out of the house). If you are playing with her... no limit as far as i'm aware. "Quality Time" is whatever the GF tells you it is. If she thinks video games are good, then your off the hook, if she doesn't, your fucked.

In general, once you start pissing in cups and such because you cant be bothered to leave the game for that long, and the dog is tearing holes in your leg because he wants his alpo that is overdue by about 24 hours....you MIGHT be playing too long. :p
