Homicidalheathen Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I have to go soon. I heard all you need as of this year is proof of an application.......not the actual passport? And that it is around 100 dollars. Anyone know anything.....?

hunhee Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 As far as I know..as of right now, you can still get across with the birth certificate and driver's license.. BUT I know they're gonna close it down soon. And yes, the proof of application will also work. I've always had a passport cause they're always such jerks at the American boarders.. :/ I guess I don't look american enough for them.. *shrug*
Nienna Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I heard they pushed back the requirement for the passport until sometimes next year because they couldn't keep up with the applications.

know_buddy_kares Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Hm... glad I got my passport back in 04. Simple ways to go about getting it for me was I went to the Sears store at the Genesee valley mall to get the passport pics. Then the Main post office in Flint to fill out the paperwork. This is what you need to include Birth Cert, Social Security Card, 2 Photo's wallet size (just tell the photographer that they're for a passport), and a Drivers license. If you pay extra, you can get that shit in under a month. But from what it's lookin like they had to get rid of that feature..but hey.. if they were smart, they'd hire a bunch of extra hands to help finish the job of all the extra passport rushing. it would increase the employment here somewhat for a little while.
LadyKay Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Well a co-worker of mine went to Canada a few weeks ago and she got in without a passport.
sass_in_the_pants Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 To drive across the border right now, you don't need a passport (like Gaf said, not til 9/30) but if you are flying into canada, or back into the states, you will need a passport. As of right now, photo id and birth cert wil work fine. The nice thing about getting a passport though, I know they're expensive, but they're good for ten years or so and they are a great second form of identification, if your driver's license gets stolen or missing or something.
Homicidalheathen Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 I might as well get the passport. I have to go see a doctor and there is sure to be follow up care into the new year. Thanks all!
