Brenda Starrr Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 Crowded House's Paul Hester Terri Schiavo Frank Purdue Mitch Hedberg Johnnie Cochran My friend Joe's grandfather My friend Ken's dad The Pope is dying Has this been an unusually busy week for death or am I just not noticing it any other time?
JaneDead Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 oh i notice it too. but to me it seems to be more than just this week.
Brenda Starrr Posted April 2, 2005 Author Posted April 2, 2005 I've just really noticed this week. It's almost too much to see.
Fierce Critter Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 It's been exceptionally notable as of late. Deepening my urgency to get back up north while my parents are still alive.
paradox Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 couldnt say if its more than normal, but it might just be a heightend state of awareness on such things, that more are brought to our attention. if the media is talking about x y and z dying every week then its more in yer face. if you not only see it on TV and hear it on teh radio and read it in the papers, but also read it here and elsewhere then its going to be more top-of-mind. terry shiavo. no one would have known anything about it without the media blitz. im sure plenty of other people in such a state die too, maybe even under similar circumstances. maybe it was a slow news week and they picked this up for a story. johnny cochran. celeb. going to make the news. it was also known that he had the tumour etc. only a matter of time there. the pope. celeb. but his failing health has been a news item for some time. purdue guy. sorry, who? didnt even know about this till i read it here. and then there are personal deaths too. and so it goes. lots of people die everyday, its just that sometimes they also make good news (apparently) and so we become more aware of deaths.
Brenda Starrr Posted April 2, 2005 Author Posted April 2, 2005 purdue guy. sorry, who? didnt even know about this till i read it here. You've never heard of Purdue Chicken? It's based here in MD. Frank Purdue has had national TV commercials. He was like, the kingpin of the chicken empire. Edited because I typed "has" twice.....
Troy Spiral (13) Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 I remember an article i read a a few years ago... Basicly the guy did some research about the crime rate near his house were he was living in the 90s and then compared it to when he was young, in that same area. He was still living in the same neighborhood area he grew up in about which, his mother used to say "we never had to lock our doors in the good old days when you were a boy..." (in the 50s/60s). The crime rate was actually much lower in his now locked-door , electronic-security system heavy 90s neigborhood than it had been in the open-doored free-wheeling days of his youth in the late 50s / early 60s. :whistling:
paradox Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 ah yes, the myth of the golden era of the 50s...when instead of being pasted all over the TV, societies woes were swept under the rug instead....
