Daniel Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I don't really agree with most of these, but feel a bit too exhausted to try to break it down. Although, I do think this is amusing: The ugliest personality trait.............................Selfishness ... The above text brings to my mind these words ~ We can not fix what is wrong in others until we fix what is wrong with ourselves. There is a lot to be said about "fixing others" and focusing on "fixing yourself" if you can't be selfish. Some degree of selfishness can be a good thing, when it comes in the context of helping others. And I don't just mean helping people to make yourself feel better. What I mean is that without focusing on your own needs, it can be impeding in your efforts to help other people.

It is possible and not in the least a contradiction. The true definition of the word selfish ~ 1 : concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others 2 : arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others <a selfish act> Why anyone would think they have to be selfish in order to fix themself is beyond me. You still maintain awareness for people in your life and you don't have to shut anyone out to make yourself a better person. I think so anyway.

slingerlandstyx Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 The most effective sleeping pill...................VICODIN <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The most effective sleeping pill...................SEROQUEL :sleeping I've been on the damn stuff for years.... Not as a sleep-aid, but now I've become dependent on it to fall asleep. A typical sleep-aid dose is usually prescribed around 25mg and it'll knock the average person right out within a half an hour. I've been on it for so long, I take 300mg, and It just relaxes me so that I can go to sleep. I ran short one month and couldn't sleep for about 4 days, so I just stayed up playing The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. Damn that series is so addicting... :laughing
Troy Spiral (13) Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I originally saw a different version of this sometime in the mid 90s. I thought it was great and amazingly thought provoking for such a simple list and tried to hunt down the "original". I found several places where someone claimed authorship but none are particularly convincing. I went on a hunt and found dozens and dozens of different versions of it. Some with a "Christian" bent to them some with a more eastern-Buddhist feel to them some more secular humanist/atheist theme. But all generally the same in terms of the overall "effect". With a few changes (there's some versions that add "god" , "the Koran" , "Buddha's Teachings" , "Faith in mankind" , "dreams", "the truth" "ignorance" "prideful infalability" "Lack of Intelligent Reasoning" in various forms, and add and subtract some of the line items etc.. One i remember clearly "The Rarest Jewel ..... Pure Truth. " (welcome to my world hah >keeps looking for it:happy: :laughing Many many different quotes preceding it and titles titles for the document. All of which i think could be summarized as something along the lines of the Anthony D'Angelo quote "the most important things in life aren't things" =)
Jarodaka Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 This list brings up more questions than it answers. It's an interesting philosophical detection exercise, though.
Homicidalheathen Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 You speak words of truth. I am going to print this out and put it in my book of shadows. Thanks.
