Just curious as to what DGNers collect.

Amongst other things, I collect Polish wooden jewelry boxes. I don't feel like taking pictures of the ones I have right now, but here are some examples:

I've been collecting shot glasses & match books for years. I've got quite a collection of match books from other countries due to the fact that my hubby used to be in the Navy & he got to travel around the world. :bunny:

Thanks, but I don;t really think of it that way... I've always had this ability to just spot things as I walk or drive.

I don;t have many skulls because I only collect skulls that I find and some a fragile and things happen.. so...

I have:

An Angora Sheep skull (very cool horns)

A Bobcat

A Racoon

An Oppossum

A German Shorthair dog

A Tree Frog

A Lizard

A Cotton Tail Rabbit

A Mouse

Idiots. I collect them all and have a matching set. Kinda like pokemon but not as cool looking.

No seriously.....I used to collect keys. Skeleton keys......I was going to make a wind chime out of them.....this was a looong time ago.

My trailer burned down (my idiot b/f set it on fire, including himself) and they melted all twisted together and I was so sad I gave up.

My daughter collects them now.

They have become so rare you have to buy them now in flea markets and antique shops.

Actually, I try not to collect things. I prefer to own as little as I can. However, I have quite a lot of media... CDs, DVDs, books, comic books/graphic novels, etc. I do try to sell or get rid of the ones I don't use.

1. Southwestern style turquoise & silver jewelry

2. Pre-WWII or non-western swastika artifacts

3. Vintage sterling or silverplate souvenir spoons

3. Vintage Blue Willow china

4. Asian (mostly Japanese & Chinese) artifacts

5. STICKERS!

None of these are really huge collections... I value quality & personal meaning more than just having big piles of stuff. Most are true collectibles in the sense of being displayed rather than used for their original functions... I do wear the jewelry, though. And plaster stickers all over everthing I can.

When I have loot again I want to start collecting children's ABC books with quirky themes (i.e. reptiles, spices, cultures) or exceptional illustrations (i.e. Graeme Baese's Animalia). That will have to wait, though. Right now I have 3 or 4 which isn't really enough to call a collection.

I am currently thinning out my turquoise stuff, if anyone is interested let me know- I have about 30 pieces for sale, other semiprecious stones as well as turquoise but all sterling silver (a few coin silver). Have pix on my facebook page, also have ads on Lansing & Detroit craigslist.

I forgot something; refridgerator magnets. I know that may sound a little dorky but I like collecting them. :p:biggrin:

I have a shitload of 'em... my refrigerator is covered with them. Including a really sweet set of 6 little goth girls, from zombie-ette to vamp queen to gothic lolita. Guess I don't really think of them as a collection, but I'm always happy to pick up a new one that I like!

What is the attraction if one is not a Nazi-wanna-be?

Just curious.

Simply, pre-WW2, the Swastika was (and still is, actually) a powerful religious symbol. Hitler knew this of course, and is part of the reason it was employed. Digging into the history and usage of the swastika is quite a fascinating study of the power of symbols.

Turned around it's actually a symbol of good luck. The Nazis took it and used it as their own. It's actually pretty ancient. But ever since their basterdization of it, it's very taboo to use.

The new BOINC (Berkley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) tray icon currently resembles one too.

I collect time.... I have 30 years of it now.... I keep on trying to sell it on Ebay, but no one else seems to want it.... I think the collection is getting a bit rotten now...

Bad habits.

Nothing very seriously. I have some old cameras from garage sales. I'd like to get more cuz their cool to have on display.

I have tons of books and magazines but I don't "collect" them with any particular goal in mind.

I can't afford to collect things anyways...
