Fierce Critter Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I end up with loose fur in my ear canal once in a while. Sometimes all it takes is a wet q-tip to get it out. Right now, however, I'm having a dickens of a time getting whatever is in my ear out. And I can't be dumb and stick a q-tip too far in my ear - almost hurt myself once doing that, and learned my lesson FAST. I know there are ear washes out there, but I've tried them and they don't seem to work. What do you use for this sort of thing?
Ginevra Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 As long as you don't have any ear issues (hole in the eardrum, etc), the washes or ear wax removal kits should be beneficial. Again, if there are no medical issues, rubbing alcohol could be used as well, in small quantities, since it has a tendency to remove . . . um, sticky substances.
Fierce Critter Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 I use an ear candle they are awesome <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I researched this a few years ago to see if it was what people said it was. Sorry, but it's not what you think it is. Really - do some searching, it's been heavily debunked. As for my problem, I just used a bulb syringe and squirted some warm water in there, and then gently used a q-tip. Got out several pieces of hair, and I think there's more in there. Not good. I wonder how much is in there that I can't get to. Probably have to have a doctor take a look sometime. At least now we're keeping the dog off the bed entirely - he does the majority of the shedding in the house. So that's helping a bit. But man, this ain't good.

Wile it is true that ear candels do not pull any thing out of your ear, it is true that the help to loosen the crud with a gentile warming and if the candel is made properly then the unwaxed portion will work like a desoldering wick and alow the wax that touches it to be drawn up. I've been using them for years and the only time they have faild me is when they are over waxed, if you cant feal the cotton they are to waxy to use and very unsafe
Soulrev Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 I've used the candles before, too, worked well for me
Nienna Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Ditto. Ear candles saved my life with this last winter's many many ear plugging colds. Even if they don't pull out wax, they do something!
lullaby1031 Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Jess uses those for his ear since his gets all blocked up and they work great - They just don't want people to set themselves on fire.
Fierce Critter Posted April 12, 2005 Author Posted April 12, 2005 A warm water flush with a bulb syringe meant for the process worked great for me. Amazing what it flushed out.
