Gothic Lolita

i have been looking all over for affordable Gothic lolita dresses.

and the least expensive i've found is 100 dollars.

now that isn't bad.

but does anyone know of a seamstress or good online shop that sells

quality lolita style clothing?

affordable is relative.

to tell you the truth if i could find a good resource for these styles of dresses,

i would invest a good deal of money into them.

I think it's more that "affordable" and "Gothic Lolita" are mutually exclusive, mainly 'cos the styles are so complex.

I'm assuming you've tried eBay, some of the DIY gals there do damn good work for decent prices.

My mom sews very well. I have a clue what she charges for little girls dresses with all kinds of smocking and such.. I imagine this kinda dress would be similar in complexity. Even for a cheap seamstress I can't imagine doing a dress like that for much less then $200.

yeah i understand.

i was just wondering seeing as most of the dresses ive seen

I'm totally with you on that. If you're going to spend good money on something... why not spend a little more and make sure you get good quality?

im seriously thinking of taking up sewing classes.

It will take time to make a good dress myself,

but to tell you the truth Its starting to sound like a good idea.

Do it! Sounds like a wonderful idea to me. I've always regretted never learning to sew. Maybe I should make that one of my 43 Things. Hell, nowadays those fancy sewing machines make errthing easy (or so I'm told)... and you can usually get financing for them, too.

A friend of mine does some sewing but lately his time has been limited. He sews his and my renaissance shirts and has made other outfits for his wife. I can do basic sewing but never tried a pattern. I use a sewing machine that is close to as old as I am. My friend has a serger.

I have no idea where you can get any that are affordable. But once you find a place if you wanna try a bunch on I'll tell you what looks good.

But I absolutely hate doing it.

I do it 'cause then I can make things for myself that I'd never hope to find in my (plus) size in stores.

But I curse the entire time I work on something.

If I were set-up to do something, I'd offer. But my current living condition doesn't allow for big projects.

So I guess this entire post was totally unnecessary.

You know, the dress you present as an example is NOT a complex sewing job.

There is a lot of embellishing, but all of that can be applied with hidden straight-stitches right on the machine.

Most of it is gathering. And it doesn't get much easier than that.

I'd like to say I'd be willing to do some pattern hunting with you, and come over and show you how to do it yourself. But I'm really, really, really suck at sticking to commitments right now (right, Medea? Meg? ), and you live where - Fenton? BIG distance.

I've found videos on Youtube that show you how to do everything from repair vintage turntables to complex nail art. I wonder if they've got anything on sewing?

I know if you buy most brands today they come w/ lessons or you can get your the way I did, second-hand at a thrift shop or goodwill

Actually I've been really girly lately, not prissy girly but little girl girly (I think I'm going through my second childhood. I'm 22 now, so I plan on going through my childhood again at least 8 more times before I die) so I've been designing mostly lolita stuff lately. I've been working on getting my sewing machine back from my gramma's.

I don't know where to buy the stuff, in any case if you get it anywhere on the internet I'm sure it'll cost you an arm and a leg. I'm a big follower of harajuku fashion, if you don't know what it is look it up on google or something, but damn those chickas and bois are ridiculously sassy, and a great deal of it is lolita or lolita influenced. Check it out.

Also, I was browsing this site the other day for some guy stuff and she's got some pretty sweet ass women's fashions. Not cheap though and shipping from the UK is a bitch.
