Anyone else here like The Doors? I like to sit in a dark room and listen to The Doors. Right now for some reason the song "The End" is going through my head.

I like some of their stuff...

Honestly, I never much cared for them.

Just not my cup of tea, I guess....

I like some of their stuff, but I have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

I prefer to trace my roots back to the Cash, and Blue Oyster Cult, and Bach.

Hey I like them too. Play Blue Oyster Cult at my wedding actually.

Guess I'm not a real goth, then.

ditto. Oh. well *slits wrists*

I like them but have to be in the mood to listen to them. and I hate when people sing their songs at karaoke....

All worthy too, though The Clash and Blue Öyster Cult both postdate The Doors, so you can't say they might not have been influenced a bit by them. Bach on the other hand is just awesome.

As you all know I like to throw in Black Sabbath in my "foundations of goth" argument. But I'd like to also add The Rolling Stones because they did have a few dark tunes. Also every goth band and their mother seems to have a cover of "Paint it Black".

I often wonder what goths of the pree-punk era listened to.

I still believe that the root of all goth music goes back to "She's not there" by the Zombies, which was a chart topper in 1964.

and...for all you Doors lovers out there.....when it comes to rare cuts...how about this...I got The Doors, doing a LIVE, ACOUSTIC cover of the old blues tune "Mack the Knife"....it's a killer piece!!!

But the Monster Mash predates that by a year

OK seriously, chamber music

I think this ended up going back to cavemen beating on things with sticks, rocks, and animal bones. Stone Age Industrial FTW!

stick, stick, stick, stick,

burn, burn, burn, burn

FIRE, FIRE, FIRE, FIRE"

The Doors are pretty good, that song there being their best.

Poppycock, I say "The Soft Parade" just for the amazing switchups in it. Sorry I guess I'm more of a fan of the B sides

The Doors are a great band, and a key influence on the early goth scene. As well as Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Roxy Music, Bowie, T.Rex, 13th Floor Elevators, etc.

I like them, always have ever since I was a little girl. I have a black & white poster of them in our room, they're standing in the woods. I think it's pretty cool. Anyway, yeah...I remember when Jim died, it sucked. My eldest daughter got to visit his grave in Paris when she was there. She got some neat pics. I'm not sure if I could figure out how to load them up the to board or not; that is, if I can find copies of them on the computer. His poetry is rather on the wicked side, i.e. dark and foreboding, easily misunderstood and filled with the impression that he had a serious god image thing going on with himself, but a very interesting read.

THE DOORS and IRON BUTTERFLY were proto-goth. Ever hear the IRON BUTTERLY THEME, total goth. Most people just know INA GADDA DA WHATEVER, but they had a lot of really cool stuff. As did the DOORS.

You really think that about Iron Butterfly? I've got the album for In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and side A was just a bunch of hippie stuff I thought.

HEAVY and BALL are the better albums.

Never really thought of the doors as being goth... but it was most deffinitely my favored music for stoner moments.. along with pink floyd, zeppelin, ect.

There's a few doors songs I can tolerate, but I'm not a huge fan.

On a subtopic, two songs I think are great to listen to in the pitch black, alone, are D2's Tristram, and Aphex Twins - Stone in Focus.

It was quite common for reviewers to use the term "gothic" when writting about both the DOORS and IRON BUTTERFLY.
