I mean to catch some classics some time, like Tora! Tora! Tora! and The Sands of Iwo Jima. I just don't gravitate toward this genre I guess.

Yeah, but you really have to be careful how much truth you read into these kinds of films.

I've never been particularly stupid. But when it comes to movies based on historical events, I've been massively naive in believing things as Hollywood puts them to me.

I've had to learn to see the movie, then check out Wikipedia and google searches on the "truth" behind movies.

One of the TV channels had a series for a while that compared the film with the real life event. I wish I'd caught more of those shows.

Fact; the patriot was supposed to be a film about Frances Marion, AKA the swamp fox who held his camp near a church ruins oddle enough. scripts were quickly changed when they realised Frances Marion was a wealthy landowner who had a penchaunt for raping his black slaves, and did not like the idea of not buying any more slaves to rape and run into the ground so took up revolution like others of his ilk. http://film.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/Excl...,332358,00.html

Disturbing and highly compelling war/drama., 8 January 2003

"Casualties of War" is based on a horrifying true accident which took place in 1966.Some American soldiers abducted a teen-age Vietnamese girl and dragged her on a long-range reconnaissance mission.They tortured,raped and finally murdered her.Michael J.Fox is excellent as a the only soldier in the platoon who tries to stop the violent crime.Thuy Thu Le is also impressive as the victim-her performance is so convincing that I'm surprised that she hasn't appeared in the other movies.The rape/murder scene is among the most heart-breaking sequences ever captured on screen.The film is well-directed by Brian De Palma("Sisters","Carrie","Dressed to Kill")and it delivers the message which tells the viewer that war is hell and can turn young men into monsters.A must-see for fans of disturbing and thought-provoking cinema.

das boot did infact rock like a large granite thing that ACDC stood apon to play.

its a damn shame i cant speak german, the english voice actor for the first mate has an annoying voice.

i liked the fact it didnt glorify any aspect and just was an account of life abourd a submarine, it could have been british, japanese or american. completely non biased.

i liked lots, pride of place along with tears of the sun.

i still have never seen Dr. Strangelove. *hangs head in shame*
