DJ Nocker Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 When you think of a "goth" band which one comes to mind? PLEASE do not turn this isnto a "That band is not goth, this is goth forum". I just want to know what the people on this forum think of as there fav goth band, it can be industrial, synthpop, phycobilly, goth rock, death metal. Whatever you concider. For me when I think of A goth band I like I think of... Skinny Puppy. concidered Industrial, they just are what comes to mind for me.
n0Mad Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 The Cruxshadows are who got me into the scene and VNV Nation locked the door behind me so there's no escape. I also like Aiboforcen, Assemblage 23, BlutEngel, Claire Voyant, Cranes, Drain STH, Emilie Autumn, Funker Vogt, Icon of Coil, L'Ame Immortelle, Rammstein, Wolfsheim, and the like. I know none of them are "goth" but that's the style of music I like. Heck, I don't even know what styles any of those bands are but it's what I think of when I think of goth.
Fierce Critter Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 First band that came to mind without thinking first was The Cure. Then Siouxsie & the Banshees. Then, after more thought, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy (solo). Adding some extras would be VNV Nation, Delerium, Dead Can Dance, Apop, Icon of Coil, Wumpscut, Wolfsheim, Das Ich, La Floa Maldita. <-- resists the urge to apologize for including the last ones as "goth"
Scary Guy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I'm sure you all know my definition of goth (since I've beaten it into you repeatedly). AI am friends with an ex-girl friend of someone in the band.. lots of drama and stuff on the lam message board... funny though, still dont much care for the people in the band. I've heard the lead singer refered to as a "woodcutter in a corset" ( www.cheap-velvet.com currently down though) I feel the same about a lot of bands. Doesn't make the music any less good just because they're dicks. I've heard MANY stories about Type O. I believe this usually happens when they figure out that they're stars and let it go to their heads. Like Bella Morte, no one ever says anything about those guys for a reason. Really down to earth nice guys. I can only imagine the nightmare of working with someone like Andrew Eldritch. It's probably stated in the contract that you can never make eye contact and always refer to him in the third person with the prefix "king" attached.
violentivy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Depeche Mode... I'm the only one who thought of this???
LuluVox Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Depeche Mode... I'm the only one who thought of this??? Yeah, I don't think of them as goth at all, actually.
Scary Guy Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Depeche Mode... I'm the only one who thought of this??? Lyrically yes, otherwise no Except for maybe "Black Celebration" I didn't list because I wanted to list all the ones that were overtly goth, or rather what most of the scene would consider goth (and not industrial/EBM/synthpop).
