Fierce Critter Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Too lazy to link. Google 97.1 free FM and read for yourself. I used to be an avid listener of Daminsky & Doyle from 3:00-7:00, except lately I've been realizing what a couple fuckheads they really are. So no big loss there. But I had REALLY been enjoying Motor City Middays with Jay & Bill - Shila, not so much - for the past year or so. Gads. I guess this means I'll have to listen to CD's again, or NPR. I get so bored with the music on the radio. I prefer talk shows. Maybe I'll switch to AM. Or activate my Sirius subscription again.
MarsDustDoug Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 you have no idea how much this saddens me. I have been listening to 97.1 since about 99'. And we are talking abotu 5 days a week. Listened through all of the changes in the midday show, the morning, the evening... everything... The First major hit was when they took Parker and the Man off.. they were the best sports show around... The worst part is its not like they had competition... they WERE the FM talk station. There is enough sports talk in Detroit and a good four hour show on after D & D was more than enough nightly as well. An almost 24hr (D & D are doing 6am-10am as a morning drive talk show... which sucks because im never up before 8am) is completely redundant. Detroit just went down an entire notch n entertainment...
Slept with ghost Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Actually Im pretty sure that D&D are the one show thats still on
Fierce Critter Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Yeah, as Gregg said, in the early a.m. Not that I care - they've been pretty obnoxious and I only caught on to that recently. So I mostly listened to hear the latest non sequitor from Rudy. I won't miss them. But on the other hand, it was something to listen to.
odims_sphere Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Oh I was pissed when I woke up and there was no Opie and Anthony. Now I'm gonna have to get XM radio
Falstaff Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Oh I was pissed when I woke up and there was no Opie and Anthony. Now I'm gonna have to get XM radio Do it. You'll not regret it. Had the XM for almost 5 years now, and I don't change from 202 (O&A's channel) very often. They have a lot of great other channels, too.
Scary Guy Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I hate commercial radio. HATE The only time I ever hear it anymore is when my car battery dies and my deck resets back to default settings. Then I get static for a second after which I then hit a button or put in my SD card and good music comes out of it :D
pharoh Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 97.1 fucked up a good thing, I listened to all of them while I was on my way to work, and I haven't been driving my car lately and the truck doesn't have a cd player....it's been hell
hunhee Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 damnit that radio station is in my back yard, I should go pound on their door and ask them what their problem is. *sighs* Course, I've been HEAVILY listening to NPR lately, maybe that's why they're going down. hehe

hunhee Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 LOL yes because you stopped listening they changed formats....Thanks hun, YOU ruined it for everyone lol Yay!! I matter!!! *dances around* LOL Nah, what I meant by my post was that whatever it was that made me quit listening, possibly may have effected others into stop listening? .. it's not like it's ONE particular thing, or that I can even put my finger on it, maybe the draw to other stations was more appealing. I'm not sure. meanie!!!

Uh huh, you just think the world revolves around the hunhee lol I liked thier format personally, I didn't care for Johnny D, cause all he did was bitch about his personal life....i got enough of problems as it is, I don't wanna hear others and have them make a buck off it lol. Does anyone know of any other talk format stations like they used to be? I need a filler now cause all I do is drive
Der Nister Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Fuck sports talk radio - I guess some ass wipe jock thought Detroit need yet more brain dead idiots going on and on about some brain dead activities that I will never see what the interest is about. They fucked it up and soon D&D will loose their ratings because let's face it - they were the only entertaining thing on the radio in that time slot. My drive home from work will be either NPR (which I can only listen to for so long) or my cd collection. :(
Scary Guy Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 OK not all terrestrial radio is bad. I do like NPR and Doug FM is much better than what came before it. Also just about anything pirated but you don't get much of that anymore :(
livininxtcgoth Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 i have LOVED D&D for like 6 years or something. i always listened to them. they're so gonna be gone pretty soon with the morning thing. all their listeners dont get up till almost afternoon anyway or they're at work. hell rudy doesnt even function properly till mid afternoon. everytime i've talked to him he's been absolutely delirious last week. and they're just not the same in the morning. change sucks :(
Fierce Critter Posted October 7, 2007 Author Posted October 7, 2007 I went from being a big D&D fan to really not caring for them very much. Either I started really listening to what they had to say all along, or they started changing how & what they said about things. I started recognizing a mild misogynistic undertone, got real sick of them going off about fat people - when they're not hardbodies themselves - couldn't stand the way the one talked about his wife (no wonder he was on his 2nd or 3rd marriage), and I swear every day, every other segment involved having scantily clad women in to ogle over and drool on their mics. I started wondering when Stern had taken over their programming. I started listening to Jay & Bill on Motor City Middays in the interim between firing Michelle and hiring Shila. With just those two on their own, they were freaking hilarious. And the humor was, in general, good-natured and not mean most of the time. Shila - meh. She wasn't as bad as Michelle, but I still liked Jay and Bill on their own better. Jay, Bill, Shila & Jon are maintaining their Myspace page as "The show formerly known as MCM". You have to be a friend to view it, but they're still taking and honoring friend requests. Their bulletins and the videos they have uploaded are hilarious. I hope they get on another show somewhere in this area. I have them in the last pages of my friends list, you can click on it and throw them a friends request :My Myspace Page I'm listening to NPR or AM now. Dr. Joy Brown is on in the afternoons, so I'm tuning in to her like I used to years and years ago.
