I saw a preview last night.. is it animated, live action or some hybrid?

3D animation or CG. From the Beowulf FAQ on IMDB:

Why is the entire movie CG, not live-action or live action+CG?

Computer-generated images allowed the director, Robert Zemeckis, far more freedom than live-action filming would permit. Zemeckis has already made an all-CG movie, The Polar Express (2004), and knows its benefits. For this film, they include:

- camera moves that would not otherwise be possible;

- greater control over the art direction;

- greater ability to convincingly age the main character, who must grow fifty years over the course of the story;

- keeping costs down;

- images that look especially good in 3-D processes, such as IMAX or Real D.

Hey, I loved Beowulf when I was in high school... And I wasn't weird, ok well maybe just a lil bit.. :p

Anyways even if it is all CG(which I am so not a fan of) Beowulf and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street are so on my must see list!

I saw a world premeir movie trailor, on the Scream awards, it looked awsome. I mean the guy that actually plays beowolf, is not really that young, so the CG thing is good for being able to get the actors you realy want for presence, and not for looks. I was actually impressed. I hope they do a better job this time around with beowolf.. there is more technology now then there were when they made a film for it, forever ago.. (it was in black and white).. so i hope this one it good...

It's damn hard to adapt a 2700 year old epic poem into something people of today can understand/equate too.

I'd be more curious to see an adaptation of John Gardner's "Grendel" which is the same story told from the monster's point of view. It would be something fresh.

This, however, is from an adapted screenplay by Neil Gaiman, so it could be interesting. Maybe it is worth a potential rent. Maybe not. Perhaps it will be worth a "hey, it's playing in the background while my friends and I are getting stoned and drunk". Yeah. That.

As that (very good book) is more about charactor development than a plot... it would end up being a chick flick.

I dropped my medieval history class in college 'cause I realized that my interest was in the people & cultures throughout history, and not wars, rulers & memorizing dates. So I took sociology and anthropology instead.

But I bought all my books before I dropped it. One of the required was Beowulf. I never did read it.

But I ACED my Shakespeare class. :D

heh... can i have some of your books, if they are still around?

Sorry, dear. This was 20 years ago. I let a lot of my Shakespeare and other texts go when moving between states a few years ago. :(

Wonder if it'll have a soundtrack that's all filled with the dark music we so love, like the last one I saw.

(the last Beowolf movie I saw was all goth, industrial, and synthpop)
