machine Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I always have to crack up when I watch people try to define what is and is not a particular genre of music....in this case what's really "metal" ....... all I can add to that idea is the following: A) get on a stage fuckers and show us posers how its really done DONE B) write a song bitches and let yourself be judged DONE C) get your shit on the radio a few times and learn how hard that really is to do before you talk about selling out and what is and aint real and the like.... DONE (WHFR and WRIF Midnight Metal, but it's radio) and by the way slipnot and all these other evil geniuses all owe Alice Cooper their careers. and might I also add that "Heavy" is an attitude, it aint a drop D tuning on a 7 string and blast beats and indiscipherable grunting to make you sound like your getting buttfucked by Satan while you wear black face paint and you live in your mom's basement you fucking pussies. REAL metal. jeez christ. to me that's REAL stupid. Heavy is very very much so an attitude.. but unfortunately that 'attitude' met corporate the day Slipknot attempted the entire Satanic imagery thing. People thought the drummer was amazing because his set would move around as he was playing... try Hellhammer, Nicholas Barker, Reno Killerich, Chris Dupont - the list goes on... REAL METAL drummers. REAL skill. The guitars are nothing special either. The only 'talent' in that band is the singer, and I am speaking for his voice, not his song writing capabilities. After being in a "METAL" band for quite some time, I understood what it really took to keep it up. Endless gig'ing, practicing like crazy, but watching that all go for nothing because we were never offered a deal on anything except a demo to be produced by a white power label which we turned down. Though we had a following, nothing panned out because by the time we gained any real momentum, it was time for many of us to move on and start family's/real jobs. I have "been there, done that". I have been listening to "METAL" for as long as I could honestly say I understood music. I have been playing guitar 13+ years. I know and understand my METAL, and I SURELY know that SLIPKNOT does not fall anywhere close. Maybe hard rock like Diturbed or Godsmack (uhg!) but not even on the same page as "metal" Alice Cooper is the Alpha and the Omega. Korey Taylor and Co. are the Douche and the Bag. (clever, I know)
Steven Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 careful there Bro...your starting to sound like a jaded musician.....
DJDeadbeat Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 The Slipknot thread on this board is big. Wow.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 ahh....slipknot...the bane of every decent band everywhere. Slipknot is one of the biggest stories of the 90's metal scene...why? because they are a studio project that stole an idea from another band and therefore no pure, actual talent. Is this shocking?...no..not really...not when you consider the all the fun details. 1. That contract that Mushroomhead turned down and Slipknot got, thats not the reason for the strife. Mushroomhead turned it down because it's not what they wanted in a contract. It's more then common among musicians to hunt down the best deal...and that deal wasn't any good for MRH. The label guy was under pressure to sign a band almost exact to Mushroomhead, hence the CREATION of Slipknot. 2. Anyone ever really see how much of a better musician and vocalist Taylor is with Stone Sour??...there is proof that all Slipknot is to him is a spring board... he has no love for having to be in that band anymore...it's all contract now. 3. The BIGGIEST thing in the MRH vs. SK rivalry is the verbal assult from SK directed towards Nothing's wife...to her face...at a SK concert. Not only did the band back her up...but the many Cleveland natives that are considered part of the MRH Army and were at the concert, became very upset at the un-warrented assault and boo'd SK off stage...and right out of Cleveland...I don't thing they have bothered to return. There can be many, many maggots...but you don't get to fuck with the ARMY!!!!!! also, to those that this will go to, please read: If you've had a bad expierance with a member of Mushroomhead, don't take it too seriously. You are probably not a musician that has to tour the majority of the year. These guys get tired....no-one said touring was easy, and these guys go everywhere right now. I've met all the members twice, and even got them to sign a guitar for charity this past spring. It was fairly simple...I myspaced St1tch...told him what was going on... told him where i would be...and as luck would have it...he said it was no problem... they would be happy to...bing, bang, boom...and some help from my good friends at Harpos...Charity Guitar signed by all seven current members. I realize that having a bad expieriance with a musician can make you iritated...but their not gods...their ppl...and ppl are allowed to have bad days. Most likely..thats what it was. I'm pretty positive your not at your best when you meet someone you hardly know..specially it your tired from weeks on end of touring...and just are having a bad day. It doesn't happen... you can't be Mr. Rogers 100% of the time. I am a marked, and tried, member of the MRH Army, but I am also a booking agent and promotor. I am not biased towards MRH, they are simply a better band, an ORIGIONAL act, better performers, and better people. I have met Slipknot as well...I was shirtless at the time...and one of them spit on my MRH tattoo, which is SPITTING ON ME...thats not having a bad day....thats being a fucking prick. thats my two cents....and all of it also...FACT.
Destroit Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I have met Slipknot as well...I was shirtless at the time...and one of them spit on my MRH tattoo, whichis SPITTING ON ME...thats not having a bad day....thats being a fucking prick. ...the guy from Slipknot SPIT on you? Okay now do they not only suck some massive ass, but now that's just being a full out dick. You don't spit on someone just because they like a band that is way better than your own (which is nearly every band that isn't Slipknot ). I would have so slipped backstage when all the guys in the band were in the process of having sex with each other after the show, and sucker punched the one dude in the face That's just me though...
Steven Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Heavy is very very much so an attitude.. but unfortunately that 'attitude' met corporate the day Slipknot attempted the entire Satanic imagery thing. Slipnot didint invent this scenario....its been going on since Elvis.
Msterbeau Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Are you all STILL talking about these guys???
Steven Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I was talking about the "biz" and what is and aint "real" in general, but the rest of them, yeah.
Brenda Starrr Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 My sentiments exactly, but try to convince preppy people of this or those "goth dabblers" as I call them (i.e. preppy girls with spooooky black nailpolish, extra eyeliner, and a forced sorrowful attitude). People wonder why I'm so frustrated all the time if only you knew the people I'm surrounded by daily... I'd kill just to have pseudo-goth wannabe's in my store buying candles. Sure beat rich people with "entitlement issues." But, if Slipknot and Evanescence showed up, I'd have a damn good laugh. I bet they have just as much talent in candle-shopping...... Are you all STILL talking about these guys??? Nope.

Uhm. where do i begin? I think the beginning, but where is that? I 100% agree with what you just said. You said what I have been trying to say all along. I don't claim to be part of the army, but I do respect and love Mushroomhead a hell of a lot more than I do Slipknot. Corey Taylor should just stick to Stone Sour, or come up w/ worse crap so that Slipknot gets dropped so he doesn't have to do it anymore.... its sad that it takes 9 ppl to make crap! BUT, humanity as a whole, is fickle, and even at Slipknot's worst (which is all the time, in my book), there will always be some idiot to buy it. So, I guess, for now, we will have to put up w/ it... oh yes, a tel, tell sign that Slipknot is going on tour soon (if it hasn't begun yet, and its still in the soon phase, and not the already in process phase) is that Corey Taylor Shaves his face, and cuts his hair short, so that he fits into the mask...just a heads up, so that you can blast Mushroomhead, and drown out the maggots
creatureofthenyte Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 All I have to say is: I like the concept of attempting to make a band with 9 members work as a coheasive unit. I also like the concept of the masks and jumpsuits as a way to try to focus the fans on the music and not the band itself. At least thats what I think they have been trying to do, albeit failing miserably. Yes, I do like alot of their music. I've seen them live 3 or 4 times so far. I would have to disagree though, and say they are not the best band ever. I think that if all of the members of the band played and sounded more like one unit rather then just 9 people all playing at once, they might be even better. I just take them for what they are, and I don't put them on a pedastal and expect more from them then they can deliver. I will say though, listening to them can be quite calming whenever someone or something pisses me off, or if I need to feel motivated about something. PLEASE!!! Remember that everything I just said is only my opinion on this topic and nothing more then that.

I dont give a rats ass if they are true Goths or not bcause I dont care if anybody is true ANYTHING because nothing is really pure or true anymore in that sense. but I like some of their tunes. ( forgive me.... )
