Destroit Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 You tell us about HIM and Lamb of G-d, and the Indigo Girls is the one you hide????? Folk's not everyone's cup of tea, but IG's always original, always full of intelligent lyrics, and unlike some bands, they're not afraid to push themselves into other musical directions. Besides, it could've been worse. Like if you said your favorite band was Aerosmith. I'd take a punch in the face to make fun of them. Aerosmith is the devil. Yeahhh...and Indigo Girls is way better than H.I.M. and Lamb of Crap, so don't be ashamed of that GRG.
Steven Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 My favorite band is Aerosmith....if anyone makes fun of me...I will punch you in the face. Old Aerosmith.....when they were still binging and all fucked up and before big dollar contracts and co writer pukes like Desmond CHild.....old aerosmith when they were still full of swagger and were dangerous were bad ass......how can you not love a song like "Seasons of wither"???!! or "Lord of the thighs"???? kudos to youz

Thanks man! One less person I have to punch in the face! LOL
the eternal Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 easy now bro, or I'll let it slip to the massess that your a Zepplin fan.....but for now your secrets safe.... Thank g-d! I was getting worried that my psuedo-goth credentials would be threatened if it slipped out that I have every Zep album from I-Physical Graffiti. Let's face it, besides Achilles Last Stand, they really took a nosedive after that. And don't get me started on CODA. Perhaps, I've said too much. Excuse me, I think I have an old worn copy of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures I need to listen to.
Destroit Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 You are SO going to get it! .... Actually I didn't read that they were your favorite band until just now when I scrolled up and read the post above The Eternal's... Muh bad *blush* I just thought he was knocking them at random Sorray.
the eternal Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Ok, here are the rotations for my favorite band. Why do I get to list them all? Because I'm the f^%$ing eternal! You all obey me! <say it in a scary ominous voice for full effect> Ok, the real reason. On any given day if you asked me this question, this could be my answer: In chronological order: Miles Davis The Beatles Pink Floyd Zep (there you go Steven) Queen Nick Drake Joy Division ABBA* The Cure Ministry Skinny Puppy Sisters of Mercy Front 242 Consolidated Pearl Jam Massive Attack Rage Against the Machine Aphex Twin Portishead Mars Volta (Mexican-American ambient/prog/thrash) *Just seeing if you guys were paying attention I go in waves. I've really been into The Cure and industrial music lately, and can't even listen to Pearl Jam right now Marian (Version) by Sisters is my favorite driving song. It puts me in a state. Steven and Jadnifer--just a warning--don't compare Aerosmith and Led Zepelin. You will lose and you will lose swiftly. That goes doubly for anyone that dares compare the Kings of old industrial (242, FLA) with the new "neo-goth" crap that calls itself the torchbearers of the style today. Edited to include my trip-hop

Yes, against Zepplin, Aerosmith doesn't hold a torch. Personally since I didn't hear anything besides classical music and opera until I was about 8 or 9 (my Boshy didn't listen to anything else, she hated the era that she grew up in and the 80's were too decadent for her taste, by the time the 90s rolled around she was "too old to care anymore"), anything that is pre-1980 I generally don't like. I didn't like the whole hippy free love hypocrite bullshit either, so maybe that's why that 1960-1970s era of music leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. I do enjoy my Hendrix and Joplin though, believe it or not. Also, you mean to tell me that CombiChrist ISN'T better than Front 242? I'm kidding, if I ever make such a claim, I delegate you, The Eternal, to stab me in the face as hard as you can with something very blunt. I'm counting on you man, don't let me down. For a minute there I got scared when you said ABBA, but I was paying attention and said "oh...haaa" when I got to the bottom .
know_buddy_kares Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 see, i was right.. lol hhmm.... Chimaira Agreed. Chimaira has always struck a very strong nerve with me.
jadnifer Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Dont worry Eternal I wouldnt try to compare the two because they are both awesome bands and are very talented. I also like Led Zeppelin. Oh and my second favorite band is *DRUMROLL* HANSON! You better believe it!
know_buddy_kares Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 You know... True Story... I had a friend that believed totally that they were girls.... And he always had pictures of them in his room... well one day his mom caught him with a pic of them in one hand... and a happy sock in the other... the akward suspicions of him by his parents hasn't stopped since. But wow.. what a way to learn they weren't girls...
DJDeadbeat Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Its always hard to choose, but I always come back to... THE DAMNED SEX GANG CHILDREN TSOL CHAMELEONS FLOWERS IN THE DUSTBIN THE CURE

But wow.. what a way to learn they weren't girls... I was kidding about the Hanson thing although I did have a thing for them back when I was like 13 or something. But come on, OMG!! I dont believe it. Yeah they have long hair and stuff but they dont like all that much like girls!!
Steven Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Thank g-d! Excuse me, I think I have an old worn copy of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures I need to listen to. well CODA was really just leftover tid bits and whatnot.....besides, everyband has that sort of stuff lying around. by the way I dont compare Zeplin to Aerosmith, tow totally different schools of music and approaches. what I loved about old aerosmith was that raw jangly Perry/Tyler chemistry.....classic front man lead man stuff....hard to find anymore with pro tools and the band of the week. A band like that fromt he olds chool honed their sound and vibe from countless one night stands, and thats what you dont see anymore with the new product of the week. And nobody sang like Steven Tyler back then. Lots of poeple have copped that sound since then, but he started an awful lot. When it comes to just straight ahead dirty rock and roll, old stones and old aerosmith and maybe the faces gets it for me. Zepplin on the other had - were incredibly diverse and mature for their age, and they definately had that european and eastern influence to their arrangements. My favorite zepplin stuff is their acoustic stuff, which nobody does anymore...you dont find diverse albums like that anymore, because labels dont develop their artists.
wilhelm k Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 SKINNY PUPPY always light years ahead production wise, cevin key is sick on percussion & even sicker on synths/production. ogre is the greatest frontman ever. Brap on!

Well I should say gargantuan henchmen, since they definately make men bigger in Canada for whatever reason. Possibly hockey purposes...? Oh and RIP to Dwayne Goettel...sucha loss to music

Holy shit! I mean I have the CD for ViVisect, but cassette? Damn, that's ancient! That's more ancient than pagers and dial-up internet! The first two Skinny Puppy CDs I aquired, I kinda bought. It was, like I said when I was about 16, I had heard of them but didn't have access to alot of their music. Well the story goes is that my friend Jason used to five-finger discount everything, and he did it to this guy's CD collection, whom everyone dubbed "Goth Ron" (we all had little nicknames, I was Trenchcoat J). I had weed and Jason didn't, so he said "Well let's make a deal, if you give me a doob, I'll let you pick any three CDs from this collection" I flipped through the whole thing, most of it sucked, but then I saw Skinny Puppy's Last Rights and then Too Dark Park and I was like "*yoink* Mine now! Here's your drugs, sir" I fell in love instantly. The irony of this is that later I ended up dating Goth Ron for like three years, one day we sat down and listened to Last Rights and he was like "You know, I love this CD. One of my favorites. I had a dickhead 'friend' steal it from me a few years ago, you remember Jason, right?" I laughed about it and explained to him what happened and he was like "Well...can I have it back?" I was like "Eff no, I 'bought' it fair and square "

YES! Ha! We always used to have this battle: Which is better, Too Dark Park or Last Rights? He would always say Last Rights and I'd go with TDP, you have to be in a certain mood and mindset to listen to all of Last Rights. I will say with the exception of Spasmolyctic (I so spelled that wrong because I am not as smart as Ogre) that Last Rights was definately "darker" or more disturbing if you will, the whole album screams out hopelessness. I think that was the point though, that was the point in their career where Ogre was shooting up probably 50 times a day, so I could understand the hopelessness factor My boyfriend didn't like TDP because it was "too dancy" Now, actually, for me they're both tied. My copy of TDP broke last year in a tragic accident where it fell out of my car and to its death on the pavement, only to be shattered into two pieces that could never fully function as an album AGAIN. I did some of this: I put it on my wall, right on Ogre's picture, so that its memory will be carried on for as long as I live. Or for as long as I live in my condo. Whichever happens first.
