GOREgeouslyDecorated Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 that's one of life's great mysteries isn't it? why ARE we here? are we a product of some common coincidence? or is there really a God watching everything with a plan for us and stuff? I don't know... but it keep me up at night....
GOREgeouslyDecorated Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 LOL!!! u just scored points* on me for that one * My BF and I keep a score card on how many times we confuse eachother... 2 points for a bewildered look, 4 points if you look confused and say 'what?', and 6 points if you look confused, say 'what?' and repeat the statement or question btw, he's totally kicking my ass points wise, LOL!!
Msterbeau Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 It's not 42. People who say 42 are dyslexic. It's really 24.

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 42. it's a literary reference. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Q. What is the meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything? 42 is the answer The trick is figuring out what the correct question. it boils down to this... We are here to ask why we are here. It's the search that defines us and gives us purpose.
freydis Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Damn. Someone beat me to 42......heheheh.....
Steven Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 are you guys satisfied with these answers so far.....do they sustain you?
phee Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Personally... I don't think there is any "we" in the question for me.... I think everyone can determine their own meaning... "Just when I figure out the meaning of life, they change it." - George Carlin
phee Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I think I liked the answer given in Dogma. Remind us
kellygrrrrrl Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I think that GOD has a lot of time on his hands being all like forever and stuff,.... he's had millions of billions of years to get the universe in order and balanced to support life.... Now the universe is ripe and the earth has cooled, and bacteria has evolved into us, and now we should maybe show some appreciation,......even if there is no real cause or purpose other than just mere entertainment... ? The only purpose I can see was created by man....when he sinned....after god gave him a choice...now we all have a choice.... now it's between good and evil.... not just existance.....or maybe I'm wrong? Maybe we are just some lab expiriment. I'd like to believe that we are not alone in the vastness of the universe.... I mean....looking at it from a large scale unimaginable to my petty little brain... theres gotta be other "projects" out there.... Evidence supports that if germs and shit can live in toxic water at the bottom of the ocean, theres gotta be other germs hanging out on mars or elsewhere... but have they evolved to as far as we have? maybe not...maybe other worlds have further evolved... maybe there is another human race..... but shouldn't we worry about our own fate than whats going on on worlds un reachable? maybe that shit ain't none of our business..... ? I like science! =)

I don't know... but it keep me up at night.... Unless you are talking about here as in DGN... in which case... I am sure everyone can elaborate on there own... wait, that works for both life and DGN... creepy
GOREgeouslyDecorated Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 OMG.... you guys crack me up... for those of you that DONT know - this post was a Red vs Blue reference! LOL!!!
Steven Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I think that GOD has a lot of time on his hands being all like forever and stuff,....he's had millions of billions of years to get the universe in order and balanced to support life.... I like science! =) to me its a mixture of science and predistination....scinece however (for at lest) is simply minute discoveries of the methodologies of "God" in how he does or does nto allow or will thigns into being for specific purposes... I think the whole "free will" thing and its great diversity of understanding seems to be the focal point of determinign wehter or nto it even makes any sense to beleive in a "God" of absolute orgin and intentional purpose....but for me, as a (my belief at least) created, finite, limited, temporal being - for me to demand to understand or expect the creator of all things to meet my personl perspective needs is a foolish endevour....if God is real then he's god and I just aint, nor are any of you......I feel as if we argue and try to place limitations on somethign that is so far beyond our grasp that its a worthless conquest. He (God) did "it" because he wanted to, and because he could. As trite as that sounds, I can accept that. Are we "entertainment" to God???? good question...maybe....but maybe we are entertainment in a way that is similar to those of you who have chosen to have children.....none of you have farms that needed yunguns to keep it going, so you obviously had kids for other reasons, some deeply personal that I imagine at times may even be difficult to articulate.....you sorta did it because you wanted to and you could.... I dont beleive there is another human race. I do however, think there is / was / and will continue to be - an "offshoot" of our human race - a future generation of a dominating twist to the species. But as far as other planets and humans or the like, I dont see that simply because I don't think that's God's "style" per se.....I think he's an all or nothing sort of Diety - and that he laid it all out here right in front of us and yet beyond our grasp. I alos cant factor in (logically, emotionally, whatever) the whole christ / crucifixion trip if there were more like us on other planets. And I also dont think we are an experiment, but I DO think that we live like one. I also think that that we cannot truly understand the entire concept of purpose within existence - again because we are temporal and finite and limited. Half of us cant even explain why we think and act and do what we do .... and yet we want God to explain himself? I dont think were "alone" however. I think we are constantly surrounded by beings who can sometiems cross over between dimensions - "angels' if you will, "Sons of God"....and their rebellious opposition as well, and I buy into the whole "war in heaven" idea only I think there were more than one rebellion and that there is war going on even now. ANd I think Science is neato but it often re-writes itself into new laws which I find rather convenient for the naysayers and a nifty double standard cause if I did that with my God trip people whould shit their pants and demand my resignation from the God squad. For example on science rewriting itself as factual, we were all taught that Cro magnon man was a limited thinker/grunter. now were learning he had language skills and true social depth....but 20 years ago hard science would have disputed that irrefutably. ANyways, the turkey was good, I overate, and my dog chewed on of our good chairs.
creatureofthenyte Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Why are we here ? Um lets see, our parents met, fell in love and fucked each others brains out without a condom, and badda bing badda BOOM, 9 months later out we popped. That's why.

Um lets see, our parents met, fell in love and fucked each others brains out without a condom, and badda bing badda BOOM, 9 months later out we popped. That's why. Exactly! Why waste time looking for some mysterious reason for existance when you can just be happy to exist.
phee Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Meaning of Life by Monty Python Why are we here? What's life all about? Is God really real, or is there some doubt? Well, tonight, we're going to sort it all out, For, tonight, it's 'The Meaning of Life'. What's the point of all this hoax? Is it the chicken and the egg time? Are we just yolks? Or, perhaps, we're just one of God's little jokes. Well, ça c'est 'The Meaning of Life'. Is life just a game where we make up the rules While we're searching for something to say, Or are we just simply spiralling coils Of self-replicating DN-- nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay. What is life? What is our fate? Is there a Heaven and Hell? Do we reincarnate? Is mankind evolving, or is it too late? Well, tonight, here's 'The Meaning of Life'. For millions, this 'life' is a sad vale of tears, Sitting 'round with really nothing to say While the scientists say we're just simply spiralling coils Of self-replicating DN-- nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, nay. So, just why-- why are we here, And just what-- what-- what-- what do we fear? Well, ce soir, for a change, it will all be made clear, For this is 'The Meaning of Life'. C'est le sens de la vie. This is 'The Meaning of Life'.
