So, I'm Looking For A Coat...

I've been wearing my wool coat for over 15 years. It's threadbare, the lining is coleslaw, and it always has been too large for me. I really need a replacement, but I'm not finding anything I like.

My best-case scenerio coat:

Black wool

ankle length

attached hood

elbow-length capelet attached

a feminine cut or at least beltable.

Can't find it. I have found the following, however, at Dracula Clothing:

I have contacted them to see if they can make it custom in my size, with some additions/deletions, including making it in plain black wool, ankle-length, and sans the furry collar & cuffs.

It doesn't have the hood or capelet. But damn if that isn't one sweet coat.

This is actually closer to what I'm looking for. But I'm not finding:

If anyone has seen anything like this anywhere - and it has to be in plus sizes or I'll just be bummed - let me know, please. I've been searching eBay for months, and google searches are difficult.

OMG that is an awesome coat! LOL Sorry, I can't really help. It took me forever to find myself a new coat this year.

If I didn't absolutely hate sewing big projects, I would just make the damn thing myself.

I have a full-length cape I made about 12 years ago. Heavy wool flannel, fully lined, capelet - also lined, and hood - yes, also lined. Son of a bitch was the hardest thing I've ever sewn just based on the difficulty maneuvering all that fabric on a basic sewing machine table. I probably broke a half dozen needles, too.

The heartbreak is actually that it was in a closet, with a tiny bit sticking out the bottom of the door and I didn't realize it. Until I found bits and pieces of it all over the hallway floor, and found that our dog at the time had been pulling it out from under the door, and had torn off big chunks of the capelet. OMMFG, I wanted to kill that dog. I think I can fix it by just shortening the capelet, but I was so sickened by the event, I just put it in a bag and haven't looked at it since.

I am decent at it. And it comes in handy. But I really hate the whole process.

A couple years ago, Wyandotte was still doing this twice a year "throw out anything and everything week." Ordinarily, to throw out big items, you had to buy a sticker. Twice a year, they had an amnesty week where you could throw out anything. It was a curbside shopper's nirvana.

Someone not far from where we lived had put out 2 or 3 sewing machines - in perfect, working order. I picked up a...mmm... I think White's Jean machine that at the time, was still selling for $250. Pedal and all. I've yet to use it.

i know you said wool, but North Bound Leather is a good place for feminine style coats... not much of a selection. Uhm... Burlington Coat Factory, mmm... idk.. i don't really look up coats... start there. (Northbound Leather has a website)

If you are serious about fixing it, I can sew. Pick out your fabrick, for the lining, and i can use it as a pattern, and make ya a new one... and... take some wool fabrick and line all the seams and what-not, add some faux fur trim to the collar and cuffs... or whatever you like. I'm really good at that sort of thing.
