Homicidalheathen Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 http://www.ifilm.com/video/2865074?ns=1 Looks good to me.
Fierce Critter Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 FYI: This is a remake of a movie that has been made at least twice before - The Last Man On Earth starring Vincent Price, probably made in the 50's or so, I have it on one of those Target $1 DVD's. And Omega Man starring Charleton Heston made in the 70's I believe. The Vincent Price one is a bit more bleak. The Charleton Heston one is, well, more Charleton-Hestony. I'm looking forward to this one.
AntiHero Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Hey Critter, you forgot the book. Richard Matheson wrote it in the 50's then re-wrote it again in the 70's. Probably one of the baddest-ass vampire stories imo. Great read, don't know about the movie though, but I think I'll give it a chance. I know a guy who is boycotting the film because he thinks he knows how it will turn out, that jackass needs to grow up.

Head Wreck Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 i'm hoping they dont ruin this film for me in another big budget cock up remake
Nienna Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I'm apprehensive. The book is one of my absolute favorite books. Period. I HATE Will Smith. Soooo... yeah. I'm seeing it anyways.
Gauge Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 gonna see it for the previews HELL YEA!!! dark knight here i f-ing come!
Nienna Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Well ok. I just got back from seeing this just now. So... It's a good movie. It's artfully done, and Will Smith plays the role well. I really enjoyed it. It is a good "apocalypse film". That being said it was based VERY loosely on the general themes from the book. It also made more than one passing nod to The Stand movie. I can't decide if that is a good thing or not. Go see it.
Fierce Critter Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I am thinking that with the pending bad weather, we will be forgoing City Club Saturday night and will go see this instead.
Slept with ghost Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I saw it last night and I thought it was great and I plan on reading the book. It was really sad though.
Nienna Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I saw it last night and I thought it was great and I plan on reading the book.It was really sad though. You think the movie was sad.. . The book is aboslutely a million times more so. One of the best reads of my life.
Slept with ghost Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 yeah my girlfriend got it for me for xmas so I have it to read !
Nienna Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 yeah my girlfriend got it for me for xmas so I have it to read ! Very cool. It's a bit dry, in that way that books from then are, but it's a really good read in spite of it.
Slept with ghost Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I just finished the book and I thought it was great really made me second guess them even bothering to name the movie I am legend since the two shared so little in common with each other.

Yeah ditto this. Like I said.. they took a cdouple of the basic themes... Glad you liked it though!
Troy Spiral (13) Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I have the same fears about this as i had about I Robot (another Will Smith vehicle based on a classic sci fi book) Nienna put me on to this particular book awhile back, halfway through i remembered i'd read it before in high school but somehow forgot about it. I grew up on Asimov, Bradbury, Matheson , Bloch, Heinlein etc. Richard Matheson is the man. Tons of good short stories. Also wrote "What Dreams May Come" (book defiantly better, more intellectual and less "happy happy") and several Twilight Zone episodes including the classic Nightmare at 20,000 feet (he and Rod Serling were close. Mostly screenplays and short stories tend to be were he shines rather than novels. (The further back u go in time the less popular "novels" are in favor of short stories/essays)
DarkVampire Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I just saw this Friday night. Pretty good even though there were flaws in it. He had running water, gas and electric in his house when it should not have been. Since no one is around to maintain this stuff it would eventually break down. The electricity he could have had by keeping a generator. Speaking of break downs, I am surprised he hadn't gone insane from the three years of isolation. Humans are a being that needs to be around or interact with others. It deviates from the book which is good. I could never get into pulp sci-fi no matter how many times I tried. Some of the few I liked was the book 2001, stories by Dick and some of Heinlein's stories. The moral of the story is just because we can screw around with DNA, doesn't mean we should. Bad things can happen when we try to play god.
sass_in_the_pants Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 thats funny...I have Omega man and Soilent green on vcr tape..... It's people! Soylent Green is people! mmm...tastes like chicken. I'm apprehensive. The book is one of my absolute favorite books. Period. I HATE Will Smith. Soooo... yeah. I'm seeing it anyways. So you will NOT be getting jiggy wit it? Is that what you're telling me? I really want to go see it. I think it looks really good.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Finally going later with the gothings.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 It was good. Damn is Will hot. I want him under my tree next year tied in a bow. I wonder if Jada would mind....? Maybe she would join in.......heh. The scenes of New York all torn up were great...the zombie effects even better. But I didn't even get close to crying.....um dunno why I guess it just didn't hit me that way. Might read the book to see if it effects me different.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 I didn't know this was the story many movies are based on. The only part that made me sad was when he lost his dog. I fucking love my dog. That would kill me to have to do that.
Jadis Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 I really enjoyed the movie. I've seen it a couple times now and it's just put together well.
