Steven Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Hi. although I'm making plans to do my own album this year I was recently head hunted by a guy in Vancouver who's done some impressive recordings in the southern rock vein....anyway he sent me a song on MP3 that I thought was very strong - we've exchanged music samples and he's interested in having me do the vocals for a new album hes workign on and then do a nickle and dime tour for it once its done. He's asked me to re-record the song and he's sending me a new MP3 of it without the vocal track, so that my vocals can replace the original, which I've agreed to do. but alas and alack.....I dont have recording capability at home (please Santa please). So.... I either pay an engineer at a studio to help me or I work with one of y'all if your so inclined and capable... ....thought I'd put it out there and see if I get any bites. thanks Steven
odims_sphere Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I do... I was thinking, "but you don't have a mic..." but then I remembered the C3000! You could do it... you'd need to hang up blankets for sound deadening, pop filter. I can't remember though does any of your compressors have a de-essor on it? Very important for vocals.
odims_sphere Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I do... OR..... you could do it in that cubase thingie, i'm sure it's got a de-essor in it, then you can remix and render it to .wav or (I think), MP3

It just needs some clean up
Steven Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 wow, those were some fast replies...... is this something you might be interested in helping me do Phee? And then what are the logistics of doing it??? remember too that im not a good techie.......i dont know anythign about home recordign equipment (this I must learn)... I have a handheld condensor Mic as well if that helps, its actually pretty amazing in terms of sound quality, and I've stretched pantihose over wire to make Pop sheilds for it before...
Msterbeau Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I have a home studio. For photography. :-)
Rayne Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I do... I would suggest after Christmas though, right now, we had to move some furniture in his studio to get the Christmas tree up, but after Christmas when the tree comes down, the furniture can be moved back out and it's fair game.

I don't know what a C3000 is ... but you mean all those mic cords we found (every other cord was a mic cord) ... and he has no mic???? WTF guys ....
odims_sphere Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 He has one. It's in a small black hard plastic case.
Rayne Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 He has one. It's in a small black hard plastic case. LOL, I remember now. We did find that when we moved all the stuff from the garage. I even know where that is, I'm pretty sure. I'm still baffled with only one mic, the enormous amount of mic cables he has .....

I'm still baffled with only one mic, the enormous amount of mic cables he has ..... Well.... the cables aren't exclusively for Mics, they are XLR cables which are balenced cables which gives a higher quality especially over long distances. We use them for the DAT as well. He prolly has a bunch left over from live shows where there may be long runs to the mixer snake which is generally XLR inputs. I think though most of the cables he has, (i'm trying to remember here), are normal 1/4" cables or "guitar" cables which are unbalenced cables generally used for instrument paching.
Head Wreck Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 yes i think i nearly fell asleep ontop of the mic box once
Fierce Critter Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I use Cubase, but I generally use Cool Edit Pro for cleaning up vocals. Their de-esser is very versatile.
odims_sphere Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I use Cubase, but I generally use Cool Edit Pro for cleaning up vocals. Their de-esser is very versatile. I'm sure it is, but it's always best to de-ess before recording, that way you are recording a cleaner signal and have more dynamic range to work with in post.
Homicidalheathen Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I do and I have access to one not home also
Steven Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 when I get the MP3 I shall have to give you good people a call.....
Marco Mchugh Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I have a home studio but I am selling things off. One thing you can do is record the best you can at home and then take 24 bit/96khz wav files to a real studio. That is what I do anyway, if I can't get the vocals right by myself I go to Tempermill in Ferndale.
Steven Posted January 28, 2008 Author Posted January 28, 2008 I have a home studio but I am selling things off. One thing you can do is record the best you can at home and then take 24 bit/96khz wav files to a real studio. That is what I do anyway, if I can't get the vocals right by myself I go to Tempermill in Ferndale. although Ive been fortunate enough to have been in high end professional (analog and digital) studios in Los Angeles and Orange County I've never learned the production/engineering side of things.....I'm just now starting to learn about the power of home PC/workstation recording capabilities and am looking into doing some purchasing this year so that i can create my own album.....but I need enough power to create good quality professional finished product - not near CD quality or demo quality product and with the possible exception of drums or synth samples I want a very bare bones organic recording environment where players still dictate the vibe.....I dont like "fix in the mix" approaches, virtual instruments, I dont like digital pitch correction, quantifying, etc etc..... my favorite old school albums are not "perfect" but they have soul and feel and the human touch to them...... I dont have the coin to go into an old studio and do it the old fashioned way, where everybody plugged in, got in a room, and actually just played the shit out of the fucker....(damn I miss those days, it was exciting) so I have to figureout a way to peice it all togethor at home and not lose that feel..... anyway - what are you selling and why? why dont you send me PM so we can discuss?
Tryp Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I have a home studio, Mic, Protools, Reason 4, FL Studio 7, gettin M-Box. I could let you come record.
