DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Sailor Moon. Sorry, it's true. Anyone who has sat through all 5 seasons and all three movies and the various specials will say the same thing. But one season in particular, Sailor Stars was just so heart wrenching. It was condensed depression served with crunchy peanuts and a soft nauget center layered with a chocolatey layer of despair. But out of sheer random-ness, I am going to share with you the opening cr edits of the final season. The only season to feature a new song. If you're interested, and wanna see how depressing and yet GREAT this season is, do a search for episode 196, then watch the rest. I GARUNTEE you won't have dry eyes by the time your done. Sorry, I've been watching the final season recently and just got up to these episodes again. (I own fan for fan copies of the entire season.)
Destroit Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 OMFG....if I wasn't with Raven we would so get married whether you like it or not! Okay...well...maybe having the same favorite anime isn't enough to marry a person, but still...you rockz Who's your favorite Sailor Scout, hmmmm? If you say the same one as me....then uhmmm...I'll buy you a pony.
Rivet_HeadINC Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Lain, Ghost In The Shell, and I really enjoyed Witch Hunter Robin. Can't forget Cowboy Bebop and Vampire Hunter D., oh and Trigun.
DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Something about grown men watching Sailor Moon gives me the same "chocolatey layer of despair". See, if it wasn't for Dic ruining the first two seasons you would never had said this. Sailor Moon is actually an adult oriented anime, many sexual refrences and humor. If you sat downb and watched the first season in japanese you'd see it. OMFG....if I wasn't with Raven we would so get married whether you like it or not! Sailor Cher (for the pony) AND Sailor Pluto (she uses a staff which was my weapon of choice AND controls time which is something I've been very interested in and happens to be my area of expertise. ((I can tell you why ,according to Terminator One, John Conner would not exist for example.) And her attack is pretty. "Dead Scream"

I hate Sailor Cher, for the record, no pony for you. The only wuss ass powers Sailor Cher has is Fast Reply and Delete Post. How lame is that? Okay, I mean Move Topic is mildly impressive, but still... Sailor Pluto is actually my second favorite, sooo yeah. You ALMOST won. The correct answer is Sailor Saturn. Why? Because she is the goth one, so she wins by default. I know, I'm shallow. ALSO...she saves the earth TWICE knowing that when she does that she will die and not come back, since her powers can destroy entire planets. (but....this happens and doesn't because Sailor Moon is able to bring her back after defeating Pharoh 90, simply with Moon's pure love) She also is host to the best villian in the series: Mistress 9. That's right best, most fashionable, and most effective super hero in the SAME BODY as the most wicket, most fashionable and almost most effective (her fashion makes up for that "almost" ) villian in the entire show. LAST but...DEFINATELY not least: The Silence Glaive. Firstly, the word "glaive" is very fancy and sounds totally sweet. Also, the silence part is just so whoa-is-me-dark. How hott right? Lastly, it's TWO, yes TWO blades, also aethetically pleasing due to their arrangement on the top of a STAFF. So basically Pluto's weapon times ten. Pluto is definately my second favorite. I still get chills at the part where she saves Uranus and Neptune in the helicopter (the episode where Nep and Uranus are actually on their way to destroy Sailor Saturn because they think she is evil just because of her powers. Foolish assumption to make). The part where she actually stops time for them when it explodes and is able to transport them to the ground and sacrifice herself in the process. Even as an adult it still gives me chills when I watch it. But not as many chills as I get when Mistress 9 finally becomes Saturn. I almost piss myself every time I watch it and I've been watching it since I was 13. Don't make me bring the DVD to the party just to school you Also, whoever said the thing about grown men watching Sailor Moon: You is incorrect. ALL PEOPLES should watch Sailor Moon, it's very deep and covers almost all aspects of history, mythology, and religion (i.e. Greek, Roman, Japanese, Christianity. Yes Christianity, Sailor Moon in the series in supposed to be the equivalent of Jesus)
know_buddy_kares Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Inuyasha... Cowboy Bebop was also very good, and Vampire Hunter D
pomba gira Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Samurai Champloo, with Cowboy Bebop a close second. Honorable mention goes to Trigun and FLCL. For OVAs, I'm partial to Read Or Die and Karas.

Yes Christianity, Sailor Moon in the series in supposed to be the equivalent of Jesus) *snaps fingers* Oh, no you did'nt!! Hunny, baby, cher-ry I am the SAILOR MOON guru!! Who has EVERY SINGLE EPISODE/MOVIE/SPECIAL here? I also have the refrence book/rpg (like white wolf table top rpg). As for Saturn being "goth" I GUESS she could be, but you're forgetting not only is she the Senshi (SENSHI MEANS WARRIOR NOT "SCOUT"...stupid DIC) destruction but also REBIRTH. So any credit for "gothness" she gain for the destruction part is null'd by the "rebirth" part. Though her attack (which has never been used) "Death Reborn Revolution" is pretty spiffy, "Dead Scream" is just more "goth" than her three attacks combined. I mean, DEAD SCREAM! Plus Pluto is the only Senshi that doesn't need to shout her attack. Giving her the "emotionless point" towards being more "goth". You got me beat on the Silence Glaive, it DOES beat Pluto's "Garnet Rod". But as for Mistress Nine being the best dressed, have you seen Galaxia in Sailor Stars? I mean, sure she's in gold, but it's MUCH more original that a dark dress with long black hair that can choke...ESPECIALLY after she ditches her armor to be come a dark black armor wearing black winged demon. For the record, Saturn NEVER saved the earth, she attempted, but Sailor Moon one up'd her. But that was only once during S. I don't recall a second time. She did almost use her instant death attack 3 times, but was stopped all three times (once by Moon, second time by Chibi-Usa, and the third time Galaxia pointed out that she COULD use it but it would only destroy herself for Galaxia was impervious to any of the senshi's attacks.) No need to "school me", cause I think I just did the schooling. By the way, you're more than welcomed to come hang out at my place and check out the final season (Sailor Stars which I have mention has NEVER been released in the States. Queen Nehelenia was NOT the final badie. though Galaxy revives her for the first part of Sailor Stars.) Another point for I can make that shows my superiority over you in the knowledge of Naoki Takeuchi (if you don't know who that is, we can now say that's TWO points): Starlights. Sailor Star Healer. Sailor Star Maker. Sailor Star Fighter. Tell me who these people are. *ahem* Is it too soon to say "DBK WINS"?
Saint Germain Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Usually I don´t like Mangas, bud this one is awesome. Jin-Ro The Wolf Brigade
Head Wreck Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 ghost in the shell: Stand Alone Complex. Hellsing OVA's (it is just to tempting to get green kit and get the hellsing crest embroidered for my kit)
Shade Everdark Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I know I sound redundant, but.... Anything by Miyazaki Hayao. Ever. And yes, for once I can say I knew and loved him before he broke into the American market. And Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka). If you're not crying, you're not human. Period. And Galaxy Express 999/Harlock Saga/Emeraldas. And Lupin the III, outside of the Miyazaki movie. And Vampire Hunter D. Yoshitaka Amano, bitches. And Tensai Baka-bon. Japanese kids' shows FTW.
Head Wreck Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 And Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka). If you're not crying, you're not human. Period. very true
pomba gira Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 OK, I'll admit that, having only been exposed to the severely bastardized US version of Sailor Moon, I am not at all qualified to judge it. However, my anti-magical girl feelings were only intensified by DBK whipping out the Sailor Moon Bible and debating fine points of the series with Chernobyl for an inordinately long time at the party last night.
Marmee_Noir Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Samurai Champloo, with Cowboy Bebop a close second. Honorable mention goes to Trigun and FLCL. For OVAs, I'm partial to Read Or Die and Karas. Love Samusai Champloo, Trigun though is my absolute FAV.. Yeah you heard me people.. lol Though it sucks that the Anime taken from the Manga is so different.. Hate how they kill Nicholas D Wolfwood off in the anime but he's still alive and kicking in the manga... Another FAV of mine is Neon Genesis Evangelion .. Love love loved it, even with the junky ending.. Anyways I love a lot of different animes, so hard to even narrow the list down to a few favs.. I'm am however ADDICTED to Hayao Miyazaki... And if I could only get my hands on some of his rare 70's and early 80's stuff...
DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 Well, my original intent was to inform you all of Sailor Moon's greatness, but since everyone is listing their personal fav's that's an even better idea, so I will follow suit. 1:Sailor Moon (any season, but Sailor Stars was hands down thee best!!) 2:Shaman King (another astoundingly good anime. I have never related to a main character in a series as I have Yoh Asakura. Not only is he the only anime character I have seen that has BOTH brown hair AND brown eyes, but his ability to maintain an optmistic opinion and view ragdless of situation also reminds me of myself.) 3: Yu-Gi-Oh! (not only the better card game *I just pwn'd magic players haha* but any anime involving a villian that runs around stealing peoples' souls amuses me.) 4: Sai-yuki Reload 5:Wolf's Rain (it is centered around wolves, nuff said) 6:Full Metal Alchemist (there's a personal story behind that) 7:Tri-gun 8:Pokemon 9:Dark Stalkers 10:Anything by Hayao Miyazaki (Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Monoke etc etc) Hellsing may have been in my top 10 had it not been for the whole unoriginal ideas and concept theft. The british cop whom happens to be a soul surviver of her team? *cough cough* JILL VALENTINE*cough cough* Then vampires that have lost all pride and feast on warm flesh? Ummm, that was George Romero's whole basis idea FOR zombies!! And the whole thing, well if you took Alucard/vampires out of the whole anime you got yourself a blatent Resident Evil rip off...
DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 Wait, now I think of it...Hellsing sucked, so no top ten spot for you Alucard!! (no offense to anyone, it's just my opinion and you are certainly entitled to feel differently) But an honorable mention from myself, "Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi". Look it up, it HAS to be thee funniest AND most depressing anime together at the same time only second to Sailor Moon. It's not on my list due to how short it is (I think it has 6 episodes like FLCL) It was hillarious all the way through (I laughed to the point of tears at time) and then ending...WHAM the most depressing ending hits you like a ton of bricks.
pomba gira Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Love Samusai Champloo, Trigun though is my absolute FAV.. Yeah you heard me people.. lol Though it sucks that the Anime taken from the Manga is so different.. Hate how they kill Nicholas D Wolfwood off in the anime but he's still alive and kicking in the manga... I only made it thru 6 (I think) volumes of the Trigun manga before giving up. Maybe 'cos I saw the anime first, but I just couldn't get past the unrelentingly dismal tone of the manga. I did like the mind-blowingly bizarre Legato in the manga, tho... and Wolfwood not dying would definitely be a plus, he's for sure my favorite character in the anime.
Necromanta Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Rurouni Kenshin, anyone? =[ The ending of it depresses me to no end.
Marmee_Noir Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I only made it thru 6 (I think) volumes of the Trigun manga before giving up. Hahaha Legato and Wolfwood are sexy... Mmmmmhmmm And the Trigun Manga tends to be good then drag for a volume or two then goes back to beign good.. Plus seeing the action packed anime does kinda make the manga seem a bit weak.. Now I would pay a fortune to see the manga Alichino by Kouyu Shurei adapted to ainime..
Scales Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 My favorite series is Gungrave, I liked everything about it, just didn't like that it lacked gore. And Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka). If you're not crying, you're not human. Period. I dislike war films, but that was amazing. Rurouni Kenshin, anyone? =[ The ending of it depresses me to no end. Me too. I watched the entire series and when I got to the final movie my friend thought I didn't get it cause my main concern was if Sanoske would ever pay his damn tab at the Akabeko.. I wanted closure.
Destroit Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 (more favoriters toward top. I'm not going to number them because ALOT of them are tied) Serial Experiments: Lain (if you did not like it, it is SHEERLY for the fact that you did not understand it. Sorry) FLCL (once again, if you claim it is very random and has no point, it has nothing to do with it having "no point", it's just that you MISSED the point) Cowboy Bebop, not really deep but touching. Also the episode "Brain Scratch" is the creator paying homage to a much MUCH better anime series...Serial Experiments: Lain. Swear to goodness, lookit up yerself. Same with Samurai Champloo, deep yet touching, and stylish (more than Cowboy Bebop anyway, music isn't as Yoko Kanno though, so that's were they lose). Outlaw Star, to me it's kinda proto Cowboy Bebop, but actually more epic and WAY more stylish with color choices and dark accenting lines. The monsters movements are sweet also and has quirky humor. Alot of it is a little cheesier than Cowboy Bebop, but that's probably just stupid American dubbing. Uhmm oh right, obviously the whole point of the thread and the first anime I started on at the young age of 12: Sailor Moon. I used to watch Pokemon, but it would probably be too dumb now for me to watch as an adult. Maybe I'd still like the beginning stuff, the beginning episodes were the best when like Brock was still with them. I haven't gone through Paranoia Agent, but it's seeming very promising. I liked the movie Millenium Actress, but it is slightly depressing. The narration style is AMAZING, it's the movie of the life of a famous actress that had been an actress her whole life (and is recounting this as an old woman) and the love story that pushed her into being one, but the style that it is done in is that half the time you don't know whether you're actually watchign HER life or bits of HER acting in a movie (both happen during the movie). It all comes together in the end though. Oh and DBK I love you but you are incorrect: Hellsing rules (and is not a Resident Evil rip off, I will fight you on this ) I mean it's not HORRIBLY original, but how many zombie/vampire flicks are? It's well done though, the ending leaves off but they ARE continuing the series. Uhmmm wtf....else.... I don't know, I don't really feel like rattling them off anymore
pomba gira Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 FLCL (once again, if you claim it is very random and has no point, it has nothing to do with it having "no point", it's just that you MISSED the point) On the most obvious level FLCL is a straightforward coming-of-age story, but there's way more to it than that. You absolutely cannot "get" FLCL in one watching. It takes at least three... the first two just to figure out the storyline, then on the 3rd one you can begin to truly appreciate it. One thing I like about FLCL is all the little treats that can only be seen in slo mo... like the little guys that fall out of Canti's head when Haruko walks in on him in his room/closet. Which of course has nothing to do with "getting it", just an example of how many levels of enjoyment FLCL has.
the eternal Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 So, I'm proud to say I have no idea what any of you guys are talking about (anime is yet one more subgenre for me to get obsessed with that I have so far avoided--I'm sure it take hold of me at some point BUT) I watched one Miyazaki film and now I have almost all of them. He is anime for people that hate anime. (Kinda like how Crouching Tiger was for people that hate subtitles/kung fu) And the dubbing is ACTUALLY good (It helps when you get people like Patrick Stewart and Mark Hamill to do voiceover) But my favorite "Miyazaki", like many of yours, was actually done by his partner at Studio Ghibli, Isao Takahata (sp?) Grave of the Fireflies. The animation (in comparison to Miyazakis masterworks) is weak, and the dialogue is sometimes stilted, but the movie just blows you away. I dont know anyone who's seen it, that disliked it. Second choice: Spirited Away, or Nausicaa, or Howl's, or Laputa, or---oh don't make me choose
