Hellion Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 It has finally come that I have been deciding on moving out of state,(preferably out of the country, right now not feasable) since I have seen several job offers in machining down south, and out west,I have seen CNC maching jobs, grinding jobs,in other states that are not "right to work states" other than that in the next few months I will hopefully have a final decision,I really hate to leave my family and friends, but that c$#t of a governor has a vengeance against the tax payers around here.and has made this state a disgrace to live in.Like I said it will be in a few months,to have a decision
Onyx Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I hope you don't have to go, but if you have to choose between down south and out west, my best guess is that you'd like it out west much better. The south is just so backwards in places, and few to no goth clubs or fun things to do (at least that has been my experience). Try to visit for at least a few days if you can to see how things are.
know_buddy_kares Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Exactly, if you go down south trust me... learn to love the ghetto bump and thump clubs or... hick country. It's a stretch just to find a place that plays any rock and roll... Also I know your plight about not wanting to leave friends and family, but no one's going to hate you for it, we all understand I mean hell, I had to do it.
jadnifer Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Well, as for me, I would certainly miss you man. You are a good friend. But you gotta do what ya gotta do. As long as you kept in touch with all of us. I think that if you didnt that there would be a lot of people that would want to kick your ass.
hunhee Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 aww.. this is not good news.. :( BUT if you're out of work, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep the food on the table and the roof over your head. Good luck! I agree West is probably better than South.
Hellion Posted January 2, 2008 Author Posted January 2, 2008 Yeah I am still working, its mainly because too many, and I mean way too many places pay way below the cost of living,it gets really old, especially when you have several years experience and it does you no good,Mi is not the only place that has this problem,IMO too many companies will not pay at or above the cost of living,no matter how much experience you have, even perfect attendance does not seem to help either, this kind of BS gets really old,I also personally know ppl who have degrees and still cannot find work or they are not paid enough.what a shame,I know I am not the only one dealing with this.nough said.
Destroit Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Yeah we can all agree that Granholm was born one day when Satan, at his summer home in Detroit, ate some White Castle and then took a dump. The product of that said dump being Granholm obviously. I can only hope that she gets ass cancer and dies so that one day you will be able to return to Michigan. Raven and I are moving for a few years after we get our degrees, down to Hotlanta to try out something new, but will be back (and will obviously be in touch on DGN, of course) I hope the job market gets better here and you can return soon, all of my friends and family are leaving because Granholm is one of the most worthless selfish cunts that this country has ever seen in any political office. I hope she chokes. Good luck in other states though, and yeah the South sucks, except I hear Atlanta has a bit of a goth scene (hence why we're moving there)
the eternal Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Atlanta's a little different, being on the coast, and being so metropolitan and all. That would be a nice place to live for a year or so. If I went west I'd look at Albequerque, NM. The weather's usually good, the people are down to earth, and the cost of living isn't too bad. It's very expensive to live in CA, and much of the west. If you leave, I'm not going to shed tears. I'll let the other people do that. It's so easy to stay where you are, regardless the circumstances, because it's safe. Anyone that has the courage to uproot, and go halfway across the country for a better should be commended. I really admire what you're trying to do. Good luck!
Kit Kat P Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 It's very expensive to live in CA, and much of the west. I'll second that.
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 well thanks for the un-intended compliment.

I really admire what you're trying to do. Good luck! Psssht...I second that. Every night I cry myself to sleep thinking about the fact that I have to move to Atlanta and would give anything to stay here. Anything at all, it's my home and it's where I stay... But....I must go Raven wanted to move from Michigan permanently and I said "So....you mean to tell me that we're breaking up right NOW? Because that would be the only way you'd get to move and not come back, 'cause I'm not staying away from here for more than 3 years" You're brave for leaving Crank, braver than me, I'm literally getting dragged out against my will...
Hellion Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 The only way this will ever work for me,is if it is one of those companies that will pay for moving expences, and housing, let alone getting there for the interview,Atanta is a cool place been there before once,My aunt lives in Cailfornia, unfortunately her company Cisco is still on a hiring freeze, and yes they pay very well.I know Florida is a right to work state. thankyou everyone for the encouragement,we shall see what happens in the next few months.

I know what your talking about. I almost left the state myself to seek a "new life".....I ended up changing my mind tho and here I am still in MI.
Fierce Critter Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I can only hope that she gets ass cancer and dies Look, I know you don't like her. You've made that quite obvious in posts. But this is a really sick thing to wish on ANYONE. She's not fucking Hitler, for God's sake. Crank, I'll be sorry to see you go. I wish you well whatever comes to pass.

Like pineapples in the ass daily kinda worse.
Destroit Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Please everyone,NO DRMA,thankyou!! Lol I wasn't, I was just saying what I'd do to Hitler if he were alive, and I meant it. Thaaaaat and it was a roundabout reference to Adam Sandler movie, Little Nicky

I wanna hang out one more time before you understandingly wander off.
Tryp Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 By the end of the month I may be in Florida for 2years then from there Nevada.
TygerLili Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 You know, for years I was desparately hoping that I would get an offer to go and live in another state and start a new life and it didn't come. From the ages of 21-25ish, I practically couldn't wait to get out of Michigan, and I could never find a plausable way to do it. Now, the ex bf is practically begging me to move out to California with him and I don't want to go. For the first time since I was a kid I really don't want to leave here, at least not right now. All my friends and family are here, and my school, and all the places I know. I'll get to check it out soon enough, though I guess(my flight leaves in 7 hours!), so I'll save my judgement until I get back, but from what I know about the area I can't imagine that I'd ever be happy there. Anyway, DM, do what feels right. It might do you good to just take some time off(if you are able to do so) and visit some of these places and see if you like the atmosphere of any of them. You could have the best job in the world, but if you hate everything else about where you are it hardly seems worth it. And if friends and family are the only thing holding you here, don't worry, that's what phones and internet are for =) .
creatureofthenyte Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 another idea, most states have official state websites, I know CT does. perhaps you could look these up and get some sort of initial feel for each state. CT is expensive, not as bad as CA, but higher then MI. We are not a right to work state. Cost of living is livable. Just puttin some thoughts out there.
Draco1958 Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I wish you well DM. I know I may have to make the same decision soon. The people I stay with are planning on moving to Cleveland where their family is. And I have to decide whether to move with them as invited to do or find a new place to live. Right now I'm not in a financial position to rent and apt so not sure what I will do. Cher, I have a friend who lives in Boca Villa, a suburb on the west side of Atlanta, wish you the best. And Granholm is actually from Canada.

You could have the best job in the world, but if you hate everything else about where you are it hardly seems worth it. And if friends and family are the only thing holding you here, don't worry, that's what phones and internet are for =) . Actually I had a chance to move out to California, I stayed loyal to my employer, I thought that I would have taken it, but they didn't have a 401K, I am partial to my retirement. THEN, this past year, I got a job offer I probably shouldn't have turned down, it was in Denver, but I've never been there, and I didn't want to leave my friends/family, considering I was very recently separated from my ex. I didn't know how it was going to work out, but I turned it down, and I'm sorta sad about it, but, I'm sorta glad that I'm still here. I recently retrieved my ex from California, he hated living out there. I don't think he seriously gave it much of a chance, but I'm glad that he came back, he and I are like best friends. I think I wanted him to come back home as much as he wanted to come home. He was so miserable out there, he didn't like having to start over without his friends/family. Do what it is you think you'll be happy with. Think about it, if you go out there with your ex, he's the only one that you know, you will have to rely on him for a lot of emotional support, make sure he's up for that. It's hard to be out somewhere where you are more needy than had much anticipated. It's really a very big strain on a relationship, even if you were good to begin with. Just know this going in, and have an escape route, when things don't work out well. It will also be good if you find a job right away, a way to meet people outside of your ex. Maybe join a group, if you have a hobby or interest, I would have joined like a reading group at the library, or Borders, because I'm nerdy that way. I went out to California by myself, and I had no support from anyone, but because I knew it was temporary, I didn't feel I needed it. I could not make friends with my co-workers because of the shroud of mystery as to why I was there in the first place. I still had a lot of fun though, *shrugs* But again, like I said, it wasn't permanent.
