Para Bellum Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 So I've been more or less artistic my whole life. My friend has his own fight clothing business, and asked me to come up with a logo. It's my avatar image, but here's a bigger version... It's not bad. The original had more detail.
Homicidalheathen Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Good job matey! So I've been more or less artistic my whole life. My friend has his own fight clothing business, and asked me to come up with a logo. It's my avatar image, but here's a bigger version... It's not bad. The original had more detail.
Para Bellum Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Thanks. When I saw it on my friend's site, I almost freaked. It actually looks professional! A little while later he sent me a sample, I still have to sew it on the back of my Jiu-Jitsu gi.
Destroit Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Nice! Good to see some actual visual type art on here. Many people just post poetry/prose/etc, which there's nothing wrong with, I just like to see variety in the creations forum.
Para Bellum Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 I'm not much of a poet, but when it comes to pen and ink (or colored pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, sculpting...) I'm not bad.
Para Bellum Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Neat work Ryan! Hey, if we can catch up at a non-club/restaurant location, I'll bring the stuff I did at U of M. Some of my more diverse work.
Destroit Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I'm not much of a poet, but when it comes to pen and ink (or colored pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, sculpting...) I'm not bad. Oh and I'm saying that's a wonderful thing. Personally I hate poetry, I'm a writer (I write prose/novels kinda stuff, in the process of two books), and I always looked at poetry as kind of a stepping stone that many people get stuck at. Then they get cocky about it thinking they're some Edgar Allen Poe or something and usually the cocky poet's writing is very undescriptive (i.e. words with no visuals that many "goth" people use such as soul, sorrow, pain, hurt. I mean can you really visualize these things? Not anything that really jumps out at you IMO), rhymes (POETRY SHOULDN'T RHYME, I do NOT care what anyone says, that rhyming crap is for kindergarten. If it is going to rhyme, make sure you're good at it, you know, like Poe once again for instance), or is just poorly written altogether. Keep the visual art coming buddy! Speaking of which, Farril, if you're reading this, I haven't seen you post any saucy drawings in awhile either, so get to it woman! I should speak, I haven't painted in maybe two years (I'm VERY freelance with it, not that good at all, see here: http://www.detroitgothic.net/t9250.html . It's not that great, but like I said I just dabble in painting and that was done like a year and a half ago) Sculpting however, is defiantely something that is not my forte. Sculpting something actually takes much more talent than drawing/painting, I mean being able to look at a rock and having to visualize the piece inside it then sculpt away little by little accordingly? That takes some artsy balls right there If you have any photos of any sculptures you've done, you should post them!
Para Bellum Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 My final for Sculpting 101 is still in storage. We had to do a 1:1 self-portrait, a bust of ourselves. Mine came out pretty good, definitley has that Roman statue look to it. We had to sculpt them in clay (which we made), and then cast them in plaster, which presented its own set of challenges. I really should dig that thing out; it makes a nice hat rack.
Para Bellum Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks. When I do some new stuff, I'll see if I can't get it on the computer as a .pdf so I can share with the rest of ya. All I do is run them through the e-fax here at work. I love having resources...
