I'm working on some clothes for myself for Second Life.

I'm specifically looking for a good, shiny black latex or patent leather or vinyl texture.

I can upload a 512x512 texture into SL to use. But I'm having some difficulty finding anything. It doesn't have to be specifically a texture - I can take any decent resolution picture and crop it to 512x512. Still not finding much.

If you know of any good free texture sites, please let me know. Kthnxbai.

What would this texture look like? Black latex or vinyl are very smooth and high gloss. (Duh) There's no discernible "texture". Just contrasty highlights... Are you rendering clothes that will then be mapped back onto your avatar?

Basically I'm looking for what looks like a shiny black panel with reflections.

This is what can be done with a good latex texture:

Of course, that particular texture was designed to put the reflections in all the right places.

I'm just looking for something that either is or can be turned into a square of black with some reflection quality.

I'm basically making a prim skirt, which is made up of panels of half-rounds of cylinders with the texture applied. There will be many half-rounds, so a non-shape specific texture will repeat and blend together well.

I ended up just trying to freehand make my own texture, and damn if it didn't come out good. And it was so simple.

However, that doesn't mean I don't still need good sources for textures. I need them all the time, so any and all suggestions & links will definitely be appreciated.

I was going to say... you're better off making your own. It would only look right if designed for the piece of clothing and forms that it was being draped over. Because it's simply a very glossy material, the realism comes from getting the highlights correctly placed when mapped to your avatar. Textures samples are good for materials with a distinct texture or pattern.
