Coarse there is the Scary Movie (4?) where they show Detroit before the aliens hit.....then after......it looks like a war zone but There is a tiny difference...aliens in the picture.

How could you forget Transformers?

Not only is it uber Detroit, especially toward the end, but the scene where the kid is being chased through the building by one of the enemies...what building is that?

My FAVORITE in Detroit: Michigan Grand Central Station

They even computer imposed these really weird statues inside of it...odd to say the least. It was also weird because they computer imposed the whole building so that it was actually downtown, whereas in real life it definately isn't.

Also on one turn of the camera you clearly see the street sign that says "Fort St."

And 8 Mile,

I actually liked 8 Mile, it was a good movie, except the end.

The whole film reeked of Detroit, in the best sort of way, they didn't sugar coat it either they showed REAL Detroit (i.e. the city in all of it's hott abandoned glory). I loved watching it and going "I've been there, there's Van Dyke and 6 Mile, ooh I love that building".

The guy who directed Transformers also directed The Island. He filmed a small scene on the bottom floor of the train station, and said in the commentary that he couldn't wait to film there again. Some street scenes were also filmed in Detroit.

DM - you're correct, a lot of The Rosary Murders was filmed in Detroit. All the William Kienzle books on which that movie were based take place in Detroit.

They list "The Crow" as being filmed there. On second thought, I think that's correct - a small scene or two were filmed there, and the author of the comic, James O'Barr, does appear in a Hitchcockian cameo. O'Barr at the time I got into the comic itself back in the late 80's still lived in Taylor, where I lived at the time.

Polish Wedding - the Polish community were horrified when the movie came out. It's a horrible, horrible representation of Polish society. To be perfectly frank, I watched it, and it was absurd.

Scarecrow - that's the first film I was actually aware of that filmed in Detroit. I have only seen a couple scenes, and they take place at the fountain on Belle Isle. I believe they also filmed a scene in Sweetest Heart of Mary Church, which was attended by my dad's side of the family when growing up and occasionally me and my sisters, too.

See, you can feel free to make fun, but as far as rap goes I love Outkast because they have such this silly quirky style to their lyrics and music. Andre 3000 is easily my favorite rapper, well actually he's probably tied with Pac, but still.

I remember wanting to see that for the sheer reason that it took place in Detroit and was filmed there I know, I have and unhealthy Detroit obsession, but it's good to know I take pride in my city!

Not quite a movie, but the television show Freaks and Geeks was done in the burbs of detroit. They went to a concert at the Rusty nail on Grosbeck and were talking about a show at cobo. You have to look close, but you'll recognize stuff.

That movie kicked ass. I had no idea that it was filmed in Detroit though. I saw it on the big screen. I recommend seeing it, you wont be disappointed.

Also, there's a TV show coming out on Spike called something like "DEA: Detroit". It's like COPS but it follows around agents from DEA's Detroit chapter. I guess the producer or director or whoever looked at 8 different cities or so and finally picked Detroit because he said the personalities were the best; a group of guys you could hang out with every week on TV.

Oh, and Home Improvement was filmed in LA but takes place in metro Detroit. Tim Allen is always making references to various places, especially if they're located on Woodward.

Documentary focused on the Funk Brothers, studio musicians who helped create the Motown sound. The film was named best documentary in 2002 by the National Society of Film Critics.

3. "Hoffa'' (1992)

A good portion of Jack Nicholson's biopic about the famed Teamsters leader was shot here. The Miami convention scene was shot at Cobo Center.
