Wow. I so couldn't disagree with you more. I feel like they did such a good job with that, they could have released the movie without the shaky effect and I would have felt just as involved.

I will agree with the unlikeability of the characters. But if you go back to how the film starts - it's basically as if someone in the government is re-viewing the camcorder footage - it does put you in the guise of that government whomever, and they're not emotionally involved, are they?

Does one need to like the characters in a film to be entertained by what happens to them?

I think, overall, this is a very different type of film. Needs to be viewed with that in mind. I know others in the theater didn't like what they saw. But Jon and I did, and apparently others did, too.

Yes, I have to like a character or actually CARE about the character or HATE them, some sort of emotional feeling one way or the other to feel engaged enough in the film for me to like it.

Good acting engages you, sucks you into the movie, I like to believe these kids were actually FEELING what was happening in the movie was real. I wasn't convinced, it to me looked like a movie my friends and I put together, when we were in high school, except I think we were a tad more convincing.

I guess it comes down to, you're getting paid (probably pretty damn well) to play a part in the movie, at least do a semi decent job, or tell them that you're going to work for free.

I saw it this weekend. I had heard just enough about the film to have piqued my interest, and decided to go see it. As far as mindless monster movie goes, it was probably the most effective I've seen, and the intentionally shaky camera-work was a big part of that, post-film headache aside.

To those asking for some larger perspective, i.e. finding out about what 'it' is and where it came from, consider; the movie almost exclusively spans about seven hours. How many people at Ground Zero knew seven hours later who had effected the destruction of the WTC?

Basically, I say that if you can stand the camerawork, and enjoy at all the Godzilla kind of movie, go see it.

That's the problem, I like Godzilla, the monster in that is way more convincing than this one. Which is sad considering Godzilla was filmed way long ago and with really crappy low budget special effects.

I am just glad that I am not so picky. Allows me to enjoy going to the movies more often and not come out so disappointed.

I loved it... The online stuff surrounding the movie makes it alot more interesting. This is from the same mind as Lost, so I'm thinking we can expect some neat stuff out of the sequel. I for one loved it, and have seen it 3 times now and noticed new things each time.

3 times!? wait, I cant say anything... I would have done the same! this has to be one of the best monster movies sense the 80's the whole 1st person POV thing makes it really unique, better the standard 3rd person POV IMO.
