If I remember correctly (Long shot!) after the storm I dug tunnels all over the yard since I didn't have to bother piling up snow to do it.

I dug tunnels to the wood pile. Fortunately we had a wood stove in the house or we would have froze to death. We could walk up onto the roof of the house via the snow banks. We also had some antique oil lamps for light.

Yes, I remember. (Damn you, Gaf! I feel old now) I was 9 that winter (turned 10 in the summer). I remember walking down our front walk to the drive way and the snow being as tall as I was on either side. My brother and his friends made some killer snow forts. That snow event was one of the rare occassions that Center Line School District actually cancelled school

We used to make igloos out of the snow banks until we heard about a kid having one colapse on him.....he suffocated.

It doesn't even snow enough for that anymore here.

i was 4 and i remember huge amounts of snow from when i was little but i don't know if i am recalling *that* year. my earliest memories are from when i was 4 (and some from when i was 3) but yeah, i don't know if that was one of them.

OMFG - I was just telling Jon the other day (he's from Florida and was fucking born in 78) about how we tunneled into the sides of piles to make forts and didn't need to mound snow ourselves.

It was AWESOME.

I don't technically remember it, as I was only around 16 months or so but my mother tells me all the time that I almost died during it. I had gotten pneumonia and had a fever that they couldn't get to go down, and it took forever for them to get me to the hospital I guess....

We used the roof to slide down. We could go from the peak to 1/2 an acre away in one go.

My girls got one of those for Christmas. We built a fort. It melted. :-(
