Hello, and welcome to DGN :)

*chuckles* wow that was unexpected, but pleasant. i actually joined because i wanted to ask about Detroit clubs, i just didn't get a chance to before i had to go to class. i'm going to be visiting from Denver on the Feb 6th through the 10th for the Creating Change conference, and, depending on what else was going on, was thinking of going out dancing on Friday or Saturday.

i'm going to be staying at the Detroit Marriott at Renaissance Center. i found a listing for City Club which look promising.

So the questions. Will they be open the 8th or 9th, and what will be spinning? Are City Club worth going to? What time does the crowd start to pick up? How close is the club they to the Renaissance Center and how difficult is it to hail a cab in freaky goth attire, or do i need to call the taxi company to get them to pick me up? (In Denver, you call the company, they rarely pick up from the street, even downtown) Are there places that folks would recommend instead?

That's all for any input or advice you can give. And if people are still interested about me specifically, i'll be more than happy to work up a real intro post... probably after i get some homework done.

Greetings! So glad you stumbled across us and decided to hop on the board. Of course we'd like to learn more about you. There are people on here from all over, not just Michigan.

City Club is open Friday's and Saturday's. DGN night is on Saturday's, though that's not the only night people from here necessarily attend. It is not too far from the Ren Cen, but a cab will be required. You can have the hotel get a cab for you to go there and you will probably need to call the cab company to pick you up.

For an idea of the types of music played you should check out the song lists/sets that the DJs have been nice enough to post on here. Check out more than onenight's though, as they really try to mix it up and keep it fresh.

Hope to see you around the board!

Hiya!

Yeah CC will be open both on the 8th and 9th. Thats the main two days they are open every week. City Club is a bit of a dive, but its "the" club in the Midwest in terms of being fairly well known country-wide and been going for ages, longer than any other club of its type in the area. (Not sure exactly when it opened but at least 20 years ago) Its not the easiest place in the world to find for first timers since the door is unmarked, although the hotel that it is located in is easy to find (The Leland).

If you scroll through the nightlife section you'll see lots of posts about cc. Its were we have "DGN night" every week.

Welcome to the board. Don't be fooled by the "detroit" in the website name, we have people from all over. Hopefully we'll see you on the board often. =)

I was going to even say the people mover....BUT....I forgot that it won't be open by the time the club lets out. You could take it TO the club...but that won't help you get back to the Ren Cen much. If it was summer I'd say walk (it's really close to the Ren Cen, I've done it myself actually), but not in this cold.

Suzqz's right...I'm thinking even though it will be expensive, a cab is your best bet.

Thank you all for the information.

Okay, real introduction time.

Hi, I'm sable. I live in Denver, CO. I'm in my mid-30s (gods, when did that happen???) and am currently enrolled at the Metropolitan State College of Denver. I am double majoring in psychology and journalism, with a public relations concentration in journalism.

I work in our campus GLBT Student Services office, and have been the person in charge of coordinating our trip to the upcoming Creating Change Conference (and thus my trip to Detroit).

I'm into dancing, gaming (role playing, console, and MMORGPs), LGBT issues (particularly transgender issues), and energy work and spirituality. I love many different styles of music. Of course the standard goth, industrial, darkwave, but also trance (particularly goa and psytrance), some heavy metal, classical, eletronica, and, being a child of the 80s, 80s pop and new wave.

I have a tough time keeping up with most boards, so I might tend to be a little quiet here. When I am on forums, I'm most often found on the House Kheperu or psychic vampire boards (yes, I'm one of those people *winks*).

Thanks all for the warm introductions. Hopefully I'll get a chance to participate more here.

Oh, and people mover? That sounds interesting. Is that that thing that looks like a elevated lift that curves betweens the Marriott Courtyard and the Renaissance Center? (Google maps rock!)

Edit: forgot to add (these think always seem to happen).

I'm trans, kinky, poly, and queer

This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...

Well we were supposed to leave last night, but life has a way of making plans for you. I'm about to get up and get ready to go on our vacation. Had and still have a lot to do.  Not easy to just up and leave a ranch with a lot of animals and things that need taken care of. We even have people here to watch and tend things while we're gone, but still.   I had to change the radiator in my car before we leave - got that done last night. Took a lot more out of me than I thought it would, so by the time I finished I had little energy for anything else. Today I just have a couple more quick things to do on the car, like cleaning it and packing stuff. Couple of minor things to do around the ranch today, as well.   I figure we should be on the road this evening sometime. I'm looking forward to it. We're going to see the wife's side of the family, people I actually like,  in Vegas and AZ. Should only be gone for a few days, maybe a week. Going to the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead and all kinds of stuff in between, so I'm pretty stoked. I LOVE the Southwest.   Wish me luck that my car survives the desert! (Hence new radiator) 🤠👍

Sometimes sleep can be a scary thing.  I passed out so hard at 4:54pm today.  Yesterday wiped me out with rentals, appointments and helping a lost dog get back home.  Fortunately, I found him on Facebook and contacted the owners and he was picked up before nightfall.  But I think I totally overdid it and paid for it today in the middle of handling business.  Thankfully it was some work at home stuff.   I definitely do not like being that kind of tired.  It's like the World could end and I'd wake up afterwards trying to find out what happened.
