Fierce Critter Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Add me to the satanists who despise peppers. Do.not.try.to.feed.me.green.pepper. I cannot be polite about green peppers. I will not eat them. DO NOT WANT. I will choke, gag, and make really ugly faces. Do not try to fool me with red, yellow or orange ones. Or banana peppers. Or ANY FUCKING PEPPERS. That is my most despised vegetable. Kthnxbai. Others that make my list: Beets. Yuck. Jon also despises beets. REALLY BAD. He lived with an aunt who grew them, and was forced to eat them every day. My wedding vows to Jon end with, "And I promise never, ever, to feed you beets." Radishes. I just don't like 'em. Sorry, Candy. Onions. Now, here's a weird one. I like the flavor of onions. I don't mind cooking them to infuse their flavor into food - but then I will remove the onion itself. Or I will just make it easier and use onion powder. And if onion rings are made suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper thin, I will eat them. But I won't eat thick onion rings. I will not eat onions raw. I will not eat them with green eggs and ham. Include green onions, too. Tomatoes - similar to onions. I can handle a meaty tomato slice on a burger. Halfway through the burger, however, the tomato will strike me as slimy and I will take it off. I do not like the gelatinous, seedy part. If cooked, there can be no chunks, and the acidity of the sauce had better be at a low. I like very boring spaghetti sauce. I would prefer to not eat peas, thanks. I prefer green beans FRESH and lightly steamed with butter, salt & pepper. I will eat them in green bean casserole, but I make the best one on earth, so nyah. Rutabega - I cube them, steam them until nice and tender, and add butter, salt & pepper. They mix well with potatoes in mashed potatoes as well. I love the pickled turnips at the middle eastern restaurants. And some oddities: If you make me hummus, I will eat it happily. But I will not eat chick peas plain. I like pickled beets very much. I like pickled banana pepper rings. I love super-duper-tiny cocktail onions that have been pickled. The texture is amazing. Seems like if you pickle something, it changes the whole playing field.
hunhee Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Kohlrabi and for those that dont know what it is... Mmmmm Kohlarabi is the best, I remember when I was a kid and we grew these in the garden. YUM!!!!!!

Homicidalheathen Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 How the hell did I miss this? I grew up in Farm country and had to work in the garden EVERYDAY and we never grew these? Mom is slipping. Mmmmm Kohlarabi is the best, I remember when I was a kid and we grew these in the garden. YUM!!!!!!
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 When I was growing up we had a 1 acre "garden" We also grew rhubard, strawberrys, raspberrys and black berrys. We kept chickens and rabbits for food. There are few vegatables that can grow in Michigan, that we did not.
JaneDead Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 now you went and messed me all up. I was a fan of yours before this very sad revelation...... i'm so very sorry steven. i think the problem is people always buy CANNED green beans and i HATE canned anything. maybe if i had some fresh ones i might change my tune.
Fierce Critter Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 i'm so very sorry steven. i think the problem is people always buy CANNED green beans and i HATE canned anything. maybe if i had some fresh ones i might change my tune. I can suggest that this is the case. I hated green beans my entire life. But I never saw one that didn't come from a can. When I first had fresh ones - steamed to the point where they are tender, but still bright green, with just a bit of butter and salt & pepper - OMFG! Now I LOVE green beans. I will also offer that frozen ones aren't too bad. I prefer to make my green bean casserole with frozen beans, rather than canned. Fresh do NOT go well in a GBCasserole.
Steven Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 i'm so very sorry steven. i think the problem is people always buy CANNED green beans and i HATE canned anything. maybe if i had some fresh ones i might change my tune. then we're still cosmically connected because I hate canned greened beans too...I like em fresh, steamed, and snappy. If your a snappy greenbean lover then your my kinda girl.....
jadnifer Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Lima beans are an absolute NO GO! My grandma will make mixed veggies and I will have to pick out the lima beans before I can eat the rest of it. Celery I can really only handle if it's cooked with something else, like a roast. Raw celery is just too watery and stringy and I dont like that stuff stuck in my teeth. I absolutely love corn but I have to make sure that all the silk is out before I eat it. I used to hate green beans when I was a kid. I would only eat them in a green bean casserole. Now I will eat them when they are served to me. I dont go out of my way to make them, but they have to have quite a bit of butter on them.
Hellion Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 This is why I hate canned veggies take some canned peas, canned green beans, and throw them at a wall, they will stick just like wet toilet paper wads. either fresh or frozen are worth eating,IMO.

Miranda Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Onion... I know when an onion has touched and caressed my food.
EnViOuSPoPpEt Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 To be brutally honest nothing. When I was a kid I hated food and I was very picky (foolish of me). I have noticed a DRASTIC taste change between the food in the U.S. compared to the food in Europe. The U.S. food is tasteless :( pretty disappointing... ahhh
nilhil_glory Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 i can eat green peppers off of the bell and i love celery and onions and carrots and coliflower, collards cucumbers, radishes, pumpkins ,tomatoes green beans corn the list goes on as for dislikes are fewer not a fan of asparagus and i really do hate cabbage .. no matter how its cooked i just really dont like it not a fan of eggplant not a fan of zucchini generally i hate most fruit but ill take veggies and fruit anyday over a steak
Destroit Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Now that I think of it, the only veggie I'm not too fond of is asparagus. Anything else is fair game.
jadnifer Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 All you asparagus haters are all just weird! Weird I tell ya!
