My subscription to Norton that came with this computer just expired.

I was going to go with Antivir, as it's what I've used for years.

But I was wondering if anyone had a better suggestion?

freeavg - grisoft.com... i love it! they also have free anti-spyware, i believe...

i use zonealarm for a software firewall, too...

Question re: Zonealarm - what does that do that Freeavg doesn't?

(I already installed Freeavg, and am going to search out their spyware blocker too. :) )

Keeps out intruders... for the most part... and virues that take advantage of security holes.

Then I shall install that, too. :)

I just checked out this page.

Apparently, the spyware protection is included with the internet security. So I guess I don't have to download that separately?

i always search download.com, and this was the results for "freeavg"

here...

you'll notice that the antivirus free edition, and the spyware are separate downloads...

wow I hit this one sort of late. However there is a free virus program that I highly reccomend. Avast. Just do a search for it. You will need to register with it, but the registration's free as long as you agree that it's for personal use and not business. This has been the only virus program I've been happy with. It scans EVERYTHING. It scans every web page, link, ect you could click on before it opens the page. It scans every file you download. And every stored file, it always does a scan... and of course there's always the whole system scan you can do. Also... if you're really really thourough, there's an option to scan before boot, wich means it gets EVERYTHING. Nothing will be left out, including the stuff that's left out on a regular system scan because its running. It also is the best spyware blocker I've used too. And as paranoid thorough as it is, it BARELY slows down my computer. Norton isn't even 20% of what Avast is, and we all know norton is practically a virus in itself.

I would also suggest Avast!'s antiviral software. I've been using it for some few months now, and quite like it. I tried AVG a couple of years ago, and while it worked fine, it didn't seem as user-friendly as does Avast!. Personal preference, I suppose.

Avast! also runs quite efficiently, in terms of resources it uses, but that's in comparison to Symantec's Corporate Edition. *shrug*

also check with your isp i know comcast provides McAfee for free others probably do too with someone

Well McAffe isn't bad.. though there's plenty better out there for free. I would like to make a point known however. If any of you are planning on changing virus programs, BE SURE TO FULLY DELETE all existing traces of your current/old/expired/unregistered/inactive/ect. virus program first. If not you will have problems regardless of wich virus programs you are running. It may be a captain obvious statement to some, but to some others, it's just a heads up.
