Msterbeau Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 I are takin pichures every fihv minuts. Short exposures show the details of the moons surface. Long ones show the redish cast and detail in the shadows.
Destroit Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 MAN! Marc...you stole my thread! I was just coming down here to post the same thing. I've never seen a lunar eclipse, it's pretty sweet. It's odd how the shadow is kinda reddish orange. More like a rust color, really. I've only seen a solar eclipse and it was when I was eight. Raven's upstairs trying to find the camera .
Nienna Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I did see it too!! Wanted to look longer but it's too damn cold!
Destroit Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Almost covered... OOOH! We couldn't get any good ones, my digital camera wasn't picking up shit hardly. Do you have more? Plz...?
Msterbeau Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 OOOH! We couldn't get any good ones, my digital camera wasn't picking up shit hardly. Do you have more? Plz...? It's not easy to shoot. It moves just fast enough that the slowish shutter speeds needed to capture it when it's almost covered means it's hard to not blur it. Forget about trying without a tripod. I have 44 photos at varying exposures. There's a few other decent ones. The rest are no big deal or blurry/bad. I'll see if a few more are worth posting. What's really interesting is the reddish color doesn't show up until about a third of the moon is covered...
Rayne Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Oh yay! I went out and seen it. Even got Emily out of bed to go see it because she is so into that stuff. Tried to get pictures with my camera. Didn't work and I said to Phee "I hope Marc's getting pictures of this!" I had never seen one before. I don't know why. Just never paid attention before, I guess.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 and i fucking missed it!!! damnit!!! i was SO looking forwards to it, too GAWD!! *beats self up like Jim Carry in Liar, Liar*
phee Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 It turned sort of an ember color from all of the sunsets and sunrises on earth shining on it at once.... pretty amazing
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 The color is because non-direct light is still hitting it and is filterd through the Earth's atmosphere. The more dust in the atmosphere, the more red it is. I think this is like the 3rd or 4th one I have watched. BTW... the bright star to the left of the moon is Saturn and the one to the right is Regulas which can only been seen during a Lunar eclipse.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 thanks for that, Professor...
torn asunder Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 i was under the impression that this was to be a total lunar eclipse, but i saw a sliver of bright the whole time - was i mistaken about it being "total"?
phee Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 i was under the impression that this was to be a total lunar eclipse, but i saw a sliver of bright the whole time - was i mistaken about it being "total"? It was tota... it reached full red at 10:05
torn asunder Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 It was tota... it reached full red at 10:05 i thought the "fullness" was to last for 51 mintues (i think that's what i read) i saw it around 10:15, and the sliver was there... eh, maybei just wasn't meant to see it...
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 It also depends on whwere you were when you saw it.
torn asunder Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 The fullness lasts only a few minutes.... ah... i just missed it, then...
jadnifer Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I saw it too. It was beautiful. So, the total red color was when the moon was completely behind the Earth's shadow? It's the Earth's atmosphere that causes the red color correct? Did it have any of the turquoise color last night at all?
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 it's the dusts in Earth's atmosphere. Volcanic ash, dust from the deserts and wind erosion... turquoise color?
SuZQZ Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I knew you'd get pics, Marc, so I didn't bother with setting up my camera and tripod. I'd never get the shots you could. We started watching it around 8:50 and kept peeking back now and again until it was close to being totally eclipsed. That's when I woke Jordan up to see it. She was excited to see it and thought it was really cool, as we all did. Great night to see it and great pic, Marc!
