How Do You Get The F--- Out Of The House Without Spending Money?

Recommended Posts

Especially in the winter time, what can you do that gets you out of the house that doesn't cost money? (tolerating gas cost for the sake of argument)

The Library? Going for a walk? *thinks*

Borders is a cool place to hang and take in information without having to buy if your broke.

Laura and i are quite fond of riding bicycles all over the place.

I like to take the dog to Hines drive and go down the trails

That depends =) Here in A2 there are a bunch of things due to the fact that I live about a 5 min walk from central Campus and the Arb.

A really good idea, look in your local paper. Sometimes in the weekend section they will have free and interesting things to do.

Walk around your local down town, google art/photograph studios in your area and go to a showing just to look.

Find out of there is an apple store in your area and GO PLAY!!!! Nothing like a grown ups toy store.

Hmmm

::thinks:::.......

Sledding. Snow ball fights. Walks in the woods. Hanging out with friends playing video games. Volenteer at a homeless shelter...

Do all sorts a hoodlum shit .

Come on, I mean what else would you expect me to suggest?

Actually this isn't free per se, but I has a pretty good/goth one that shouldn't be too costly. Find a local coffee shop, grab a book or one to write in, and sit there and you know...do coffee shop stuffs. May also be a good weapon for recruiting new DGN members too, since other gothy/scene peoples tend to hang out in such places.

just call round a friends for tea/coffee.

gaf has some good ideas, and i often wonder why you dont spend half your life in A and E cher

I love to skate. Fucking love it. And, its free after you get the skates. Belle Isle.....

You don't even need gas...if you live in the city you can just go from your house.....

Also, you can buy used skates pretty cheap in the off season (now)

Sledding.

Biking

Hiking.

Just hanging out with buddies.

Taking pictures in the graveyard.

I go browse at Barnes n Noble without buying anything too. I speed read a few books and leave. I figure I spend enough money there the rest of the year they owe me one or two.

I go to galleries out east hoping to encounter some art, or I wander around garden departments to plan my yard for spring. The library is good too.

'EY! You gotta remember to put your normal English on when on DGN! *runs!* (I kid...I realize that you guys came first )

not really, English was only standardised after the declaration of independence. we just like winding you up :p

not sure how common it is in the spring/summer over there, but i go garage-sale-ing a lot in the warmer months...

Posted

I do that a lot too. I'll stop at any that have old glass jars. I love making terrariums and such.

Yeah, Borders is a good place to hang out. The one on Hall Rd has a Starbucks and comfy couches in there.

I know this may cost you a couple of bucks, but if you have a cheap theater near you, you can go and catch yourself a movie.

Hint: Make some popcorn and bring your own drinks. That would also make it a LOT cheaper.

Art openings...not only are they free, they have free beer and munchies.

I don't know much that's totally free, but for cheap you can:

Go rolleskating! All of the rinks have an adult night and they play 80s and 90s music, sometimes even Depeche Mode! And they ALWAYS play some Pretty Young Thing at least once. Yeah!

Ice skating is also good.

Have you heard of geocaching? It's like hiking with a purpose.

have some friends over and cook dinner and get drunk on three dollar wine.

"Out"

In the warmer months... I would say that walking is one of my favorite activities. Walking to a coffee shop, walking to depot town, walking to the river....

Colder months and Warmer months... RPG at a friends house, movies at a friends house, cooking with friends, collective art projects (writing together, drawing, writing music)...

Really desperate? Go people watching in South Lyon. Take a tour of South Eastern Michigan McDonalds fast food restaurants....

Really really desperate? Find creative places to masturbate around your local city....

Yeah, Troy! I'll be over next weekend with Raven and three dollar wine. Whatcha makin'?

Dude, I have one for you. We're supposed to get a good amount of snow tonight SO do what I do and build igloos. Your neighbors will think you're weird, but fuck 'em. You're never too old for either snow houses or snow peoples.

As we all found out at the Christmas party at my house, Snow People are always a blast. Esp. when you mix drinkies.

The bookstore suggestion is one thats a bit scary for me since i can go to a bookstore and be MIA for as many hours as the place is open for, but i almost always end up spending money, on books i might get too sometime in 2010 hehe. It definitely does have its allure though.

Art openings, like at galleries? Every one I've ever been invited to costs anywhere from $10 to $200 dollars. Do you mean "arts and craft shows" ?

I just recently heard about the geocaching, from Hunhee actually. Have yet to look into it. Seems like something I'd be into and already sort of known about, not sure how i missed the subject all these years.

Interesting ideas from all around. :yes

Yes, like art galleries! $10 to $200?!? When I lived downtown, I lived right next to C-Pop, and they had a new artist opening the first Friday of the month or something like that. And it was free! There were other galleries in the area, too, that had openings, I just don't remember the names anymore or which day they had new artists.

:(

And, speaking of first Fridays, the DIA is re-opened and they have stuff going on ALL the time! I haven't been since the re-opening but I hear it's wonderful. And it's like $4 to get in.

If you go to geocaching.com, you can find instructions for all of the caches.

Do what I did when we had that huge snowstorm a few weeks back. Go outside and build a snow fort of epic proportions, and challenge passers-by to snowball fights.
