My mom decided on makeover for her b-day. Any suggestions before I take her in to Macy's? I know I want her to try out benefit, origins and bare escsentuals.

Most Moms love Origins. Macy's doesn't carry Bare Escentuals. Benefit has some cool shit, but don't let the sales girl run you. If you're not sure, don't buy!

As for MAC, I like everything but their foundations. And sometimes (rarely) you can get them cheaper on Ebay.

I've found the Milani Minerals loose mineral foundation (sold at CVS stores) is JUST as good as BareEscentuals!! I have sensitive skin, prone to red blotches and hives, and I've had no allergic reactions from Milani. Not to mention, it's about 20 dollars less expensive. ;) You get .35 oz. of product for under $9.00, and it lasts a long time. In my opinion, it's the best knock-off mineral foundation on the market. As an active, professional entertainer, I test all products I try out to the limits of their endurance and wearability-- and this one passes with flying colours!!

My only complaint, is they've changed the bristles on the built-into-the-lid kabuki brush, since I first began purchasing the product. They used to be soft sable, and now they use something bristlier. You will want to use your own broken-in makeup brush.

I like this column, Brenda. Are you a licensed beautician/cosmetologist/makeup artist? :) I could possibly use your services in the future, if you are experienced in doing makeup for film and photography. I have about three shoots coming up!

I'm a makeup artist and manicurist, and soon to be a permanent cosmetics artist. I've worked for such lines as MAC, Dior, BeneFit, Smashbox, Bare Escentuals, and more. I've also done makeup for 2 CD covers and some small-potatoes runway work. My husband and I are starting our own pinup photography business, where I'll do the makeup and he will take pics. I'd like to think I know a lil something about something....lol

As for the MIlani, I'll have to try it. I have 2 Bare Escentuals kabuki brushes that I prefer to use over almost ANY other kabuki.

Oh coolness! Does your husband have a website with a portfolio and rates up, yet? If so, please post a link! :) I am always looking for a good photographer. I won't even book with someone unless their work piques my interest. Anyone can have their friend's brother's buddy's uncle take their picture for cheap. I go for artistry, and experience with compositional props (including costume) and lighting. It seems like a lot of fly-by-night studios have popped up, with the advent of the internet. Everyone wants to take pictures of girls, but very few run their businesses respectfully, professionally, and discretely.

Good luck with your business venture. A woman's touch in pin-up and boudoir photography is always welcome. ;)

Are you Greek or Italian? Do you use facial cleansers? Crisco?

i need a foundation, that works with my skin tone (pasty), and can get me through a shift at the studio without looking like im 40 by the end (because of all the hot lights and running after kids), and is cheap, and wont make me breakout . . . GO! lol any help would be appreciated

First, I need to know what you consider cheap. Maybelline has a long-wearing one that's $10, and wears ALLLLL day. AND, still looks good afterward! I think there's a pasty white chick color for you, too.

I don't really wear much make-up at all, aside from eyeliner and mascara. I'm also very inexperienced with make-up and consider myself to have no real sense of good taste in colors and what not. :X

I also have a very broken out face. I have acne all the time.

Is there a short of foundation that I can wear that will cover up my acne but also help to not create more?

You have to use proper skincare, first and foremost! There are concealers out there that fight acne, but it won't help you if you don't treat your skin right by using good skincare.

It's name is TOTALLY escaping me right now! It has a white lid, and it's double-sided. One side is the foundation, the other is a primer that makes it wear longer. When you pump it, both come out, and you blend and apply....

ill have to take a look, thanks bren!

I use prescription acne pads, medication, and day/night lotion.

I've been using all this for 5 years.

And still have acne. :X

How bad is your acne? Acne comes in varying degrees. If it's really excessive, and that's not working, you're using the wrong product. Your doc needs to know.

Its pretty intense. It is much worse if I don't use the products my doctor gave me. But I still have a good amount.

I'd be asking questions about what you're using. And if it's not working, that's not good. Has he suggested microdermabrasion or peels?

Most soaps are actually REALLY bad for you, because they contain detergents. They'll dry out your skin.
