If it is, please stop port scanning me. I really don't want to have to report. I will if you dont just stop it.

Once I figure out what port scanning is, I'll happily take credit.

Until then, I'll just be content claiming to be Eric Cartman, Phatgoth, Bicycle, and every other "old guard" DGNer's 3rd and 4th handle.

its someone looking for a way into marcs system.

very childish and pointless knowing the depth of knowlage marc has on windows systems and networking. its just going to earn whomever is doing that an ISP ban

As a mod I can see IP addresses. I'll keep this written down next to my desk and if I happen to see a member with that IP, I will PM you. To me, if someone is port scanning, that can potentially be a very malicious threat.

I looked it up. It's registered to comcast somewhere in Grand Rapids. The Domain associated with it is for grasslandtheband.com It's not a registered IP to any current DGN'r.

That's so weird.

I clicked the link. It says they are looking for a singer/frontman and has a phone number and email address.

Grand Rapids? I thought I had it pegged to Lansing.

Hrmmm, I dont know anyone in Grand Rapids either.

Who the hell have I pissed off now?

Well, I have gone back through logs and looked at it a bit closer.

That ip address port scans my entire network every week for at least one day. One that day... every 3 hours it runs the scan. in some weeks, it does it for two days ina row.

Very odd behavior. The patteren changes here and there... sometimes it scans more, sometimes less... but the average is once every three hours for a 24 hour period every 5-7 days.

I can't think of why anyone in Michigan on a cable modem would be scanning the IP range of a T1 in Florida like this.

I must be missing something.

Do you use a router? If so, then it's a bit more to do...

but if not...

Start

Control Panel

Network Connections

Right Click which ever network connection is your Internet connection, you may only have one...

Choose Status

Choose the Support tab

there you go.

see... I'm like an internet ninja... I don't have a router of my own. I um... temporarily borrow signals from other routers that are left unsecured...
