Comcast Suspicions....

So I have that Comcast Bundle.....but I also have a DVR box....so my whole bill is like $150 a month...which is totally a rip off... Now....the phone service freaking sucks ass. Half the people who call me get this message that the phone is not in service or MY HOUSE PHONE DROPS CALLS?!??, so I've been trying to go online and check out other services...

Every time I try to go to like Talk America's website, or at&t (which worked sometimes but their more expensive), or today I tried to hit this Mich-tel website i think it was....but anyways....its like the pages either don't come up at ALL or they are extremely ridiculously slow. This happened to me once when I was trying to switch cable and internet service too but comcast is the only service in my area :( and totally overpriced.

So my suspicion is this....

Do you think Comcast can like...somehow control the speed or something when it comes to certain websites. Like every other website comes up fine except when researching competition? What do you think? Is it even possible?

I just think its a little strange that the only websites I ever really had a problem with are ones that are companies that offer the same services as Comcast.

*sidenote* if anyone has really inexpensive home phone service...could you tell me what you've got? :)

Comcast "manages" network traffic for P2P software... why not competitors sites?

for some reason, it seems that ComCast knows when i am home and knows when I am not... i was on a road trip for 2and a half weeks, and every one of my friends kept getting redirected to something weird after the first or second ring... and our answering service kicks in after the 5th or 6th ring! as soon as i got home, they could get through just fine!

Well comcast does great tv, and internet service, but the introductory price only lasts like a year or so, and then you get whacked with the full price for the bundle, and that hurts.

As for phone service, I use my AT&T cell phone with roll over minutes, and free long distance.

Why bother with a land line if you don't have to ?

I never did like comcast. I'd rather have no internet at all than that privacy invading money grubbing evil corporation..

sorry phee.. but i phucking hate the company you work phor

My fax machine is hooked up to a Comcast phone line ... never had an issue. It's not unlisted either so the telemarketers call often and get my fax machine in their ear. Only very occasionally do I actually pick up the phone and make a call though ... usually if I do it's to find the cell phone I've misplaced.

Can't really complain about the internet and cable either ... they work pretty well.

I do have to say though, when I lived in Westland and had them ... my phone went out all the time. It was either an issue with the area or them working out the kinks though because they had just released it then.

You might be getting some kinda of signal drop in your area. Or your is infected with a bot... and your flooding yourself.

I need a land line because my stupid grubby verizon cell phone doesn't work inside my house :/

and I'm certainly not trying to insult anyone who likes thier service or especially anyone's job....

but it seems like every month I get my bill and its messed up, or I call and talk to someone who has no idea what they're doing.....and its a FIGHT with them every month because my bill is wrong, or my services are messed up. Its such a headache. I've had comcast for the last 3 years in my name....and before that I had WOW for 2 years and not ONCE....NOT ONCE....did I have a problem with WoW. I think my service went out one time in those 2 years and it was like a bad storm or something. My speed was fine...the billing was always accurate....WHen I called I was always treated with respect and courtesy. But comcast is the polar opposite. Its so frustrating. And a lot of places can't get other services, so its sort of like they treat you like your STUCK with them.

I have to call back 3-4 times to get someone who understands what I'm saying and who is willing to investigate and fix the problem.

But I call about the phone and they basically tell me "We don't see a problem...I don't know what to tell you". :crybaby:

In the past I usually had a problem with Comcast and their customer service being pretty rude when I tried to explain my problem. Recently these days, I have had no problems with billing or service. I think the only problems that occur right now are HD stations like USAHD cutting out in sound and then you have to flip the channel and flip it back and the sound comes back on. But I have HD Cable with Cinemax and Showtime and pay just over $100 a month including taxes. We didn't get the bundle because we would be wasting our time and money since we have our own cell phones. For now, I have to say that I am satisfied with them as they try to give us the best deals each year. And this coming from someone who used to constantly bitch about their monopolization in recent years and messed up billing practices.

We have that issue with the new HD channels too ... we also have the HD service.

It might be our area though (Reaper and I are actually in the same area) ... because I did have some horrible issues with their service and billing prior to moving here.

*edit*

Previous times I've had issues with them was when I lived in Westland and Garden City ... which is xbittergracex's area.

Hmm ... I think we're on to something here ....

Interesting as the issues I had back then were when I lived in canton. Interesting indeed.

We've had the sound go out for a day, picture fine, but no sound.

Also we get sluggish navigating in the menu from time to time. For instance I push the button to scroll through the channels and nothing happens so I push the button a bunch of time out of frustration... nothing. Then, whenever it feels like, it gets caught back up by quickly scrolling through however many times I hit the button. Then I have to go back to see what i missed. *arg.....

We cannot actually officially comment for we will lose our jobs.

How does that work exactly? I mean, if you not at work using work based computers and resources... Did you sign some contract that takes away your Rights?

If they signed some kind of confidentiality agreement, or some other employment agreement, etc, it may prevent them from disclosing all sorts of information which the company considers proprietary. Doesn't matter where you do it from...

Didn't think of that. Not really on my game today... been cursed with a headache from hell...

there is a lot of stink going on over filtering of packets and such though...

Yup... They denied it for quite a while... then last month they changed they're service agreement and admitted that they did it. And still don't think they did anything wrong. Conveniently forgetting that they were offering unlimited downloads at whatever speed you were paying for, when clearly they were not giving you unlimited service.

Comcast has the most horrible cable internet in the WORLD.

For whatever reason it didn't work at my mom's house and they were very pissed off about helping us. They never did solve the problem. For whatever reason it would cut out in hot weather %100 of the time, and wouldn't work in cold weather maybe like %75 of the time. No matter how many times we asked them to fix it, they said they couldn't and that it was our "house" ('cause yeah...apparantly we have massive poltergeist activity...? How the fuck could it be our HOUSE ).

I eventually said "Boshy, why the fuck are we paying for internet that we don't even get most of the time?"

She called WOW and the internet hasn't cut out in her house EVER since (and this was like four years ago).

Eff Comcast. They don't want to fix my internets, I'll take my internets needs elsewhere!

I had Comcast for 6 months, but had to disconnect due to moving, but I never had any issues, for the time I was with them,

Now I use my PDA phone as a modem for my laptop, and use my other sim card in my old phone so I can still recieve calls, works great for me.

I got comcast and the phone is weird I think it's because of 'high volume' or something, I'm more dork than nerd.

You may have a point though.

Something must be up. I am on comcast for everything.....we got the tv and extra movie channels plus 3 laptops going.....my bill is much lower.

They have different plans......I would call and threaten to go to a competitor that usually gets them to name a few.

BTW I hate comcast.....I think they spy on people for the government. Or, something......dunno......they can be bought off like the phone company.

But I would soooo work there......yup.

yeah it could be some big thing like they listen to us on the phone and while your watching TV they are secretly watching you thru a tiny hidden camera in your television....*looks suspiciously at TV*
