Hair Falling Out!

I think my hair is falling out. I have long hair and my bathroom floor is covered in strands of long black hair. I don't have any bald spots so I'm not too worried. But to look at my hairbrush and my bathroom it appears that I am losing a lot of hair. I’ve been using anti-brakeage shampoo but have not notice any difference. I have a poor diet and a lot of stress in my life. So I am thinking that could have something to do with hair lost. I don't know??

When my sister went thru nursing school (she's an RN) she lost a lot of hair and it thinned something terrible. We are talking massive amounts of stress. Now 3 years later her hair is mostly all restored. Stress can definitely make you lose hair. Or if you ask my dad, kids do that to you.

They say (whoever they are) that this time of year is also a factor due to the dry heat everywhere. My scalp has been so itchy lately because of that. I have long hair and I feel like it is also thining. Try taking a mutivitamin once daily and it might help if your diet is poor.

Insufficient protein intake, stress, and losing weight too fast all makes my hair fall out. It stops when all those things are in the "normal" range.

Mine has gotten a bit thinner with middle age. But it was so thick I am not missing much.

I hope I dont end up bald like granny......some women do ya know.

My hair turned fine and about half of it fell out around age 25. It could be alot of things... not enough protein, not enough B vitamins, not enough sleep, too much stress, a hormone imbalance, pregnancy, a thyroid problem... LOL The list goes on and on. In my case I have to watch the protein thing and take Biotin tablets. Problem solved. Good luck. I know how scary it can be!

Are you on any new medications? About 5 years ago, I had this horrible bug that affected my elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles. It lasted about ten weeks, and felt just like moderate arthritis, only with no gradual buildup to pain over the years. I took a lot of celebrex in those ten weeks, and my hair grew in real weak during that period, and broke off. Freaked me out bad till I realized what it was from.

A friend of a friend of mine, had a major shock to her body due to sudden emotional stress -- and she lost all her hair. And not just on her head.

I'm no MD, but maybe a combo of things have caused it. Try going to an MD.

The average person loses 100 or more hairs a day, so keep that in mind. When it's longer, it definitely seems like more. I worked with a Nutritionist for a few months and she gave me a tip for hair loss that worked for me. One teaspoon of Safflower or Sunflower oil per day, just right out of the bottle. They have no flavor at all. I just wash it down with water and do it BEFORE I brush my teeth, hehe. There are also supplements that work well, I use Hair Force by Kal.

Another thing that can cause hair loss is putting high-lift, peroxide-based haircolor products directly on the scalp. NOT a good idea! That's why they say in the instructions NOT to! Many years of this can actually damage the hair follicles, especially those around the hairline and part..

If you don't bleach your hair, the problem is something completely different. I suggest a tea-tree oil shampoo. Go to your local beauty supply, or search for some online. This will actually invigorate the follicle by bringing the blood to the surface, thereby nourishing it. It will also get rid of any microbial activity that could be causing hairloss. Sometimes our body flora and fauna can get out of check, resulting in hair loss due to hyperkeratosis, which can clog the hair follicles.

I also take a shot of extra virgin olive oil each day. It's a habit I picked up from an old Italian grandmother. A bit of an aquired taste, but I swear by it for healthy hair, skin, and digestion! :geek:

I remember that when I was trying to lose weight and I drastically changed my diet, my hair was falling out like crazy. When I proportioned out my diet, it stopped falling out. It could be a vitaman deficiency.

Also, my hair fell out like crazy when I was under a LOT of stress. If you are under stress that could be a reason why your hair is falling out too.

My recommendation would be to go and see your doctor. He/she is the best one to answer these questions for you. He would be able to better narrow it down for you.

If you have really long hair or like to wear your hair in tight styles, such as tight buns or ponytails, then that could be causing your hair to thin as well. I've always had super-long hair, and my hair definitely isn't as thick as it once was. The weight and the tight styles have worked together to cause my hair to thin a little. I've been considering a new, shorter 'do, but I'm not sure what to do with it. 'Tis a dilemma.
