Titan's Surface Organics Surpass Oil Reserves on Earth

Cassini has mapped about 20 percent of Titan's surface with radar. Several hundred lakes and seas have been observed, with each of several dozen estimated to contain more hydrocarbon liquid than Earth's oil and gas reserves. The dark dunes that run along the equator contain a volume of organics several hundred times larger than Earth's coal reserves.

Proven reserves of natural gas on Earth total 130 billion tons, enough to provide 300 times the amount of energy the entire United States uses annually for residential heating, cooling and lighting. Dozens of Titan's lakes individually have the equivalent of at least this much energy in the form of methane and ethane.

Wow, too bad we can't (at least not yet). It's not in oil form right? That would be a little creepy because that would suggest that there was a decent amount of life on that moon at one point in time.

Titan has a thicker atmosphere than Earth. It's 98% Nitrogen and 2% Methane/Ethane. It "rains" methane there.

I think we could safely rename Titan to Fart.

 And it is now so. From this day forward, it will be known as simply...Gassy.

So does that mean we get to rename Venus too? Let's call it balloon!

We need a pipeline, I tell ya. A long and very flexible one.

Uh, need I remind everyone of the great deal of oxides of nitrogen that are produced in natural gas power plants? Yeah... those oxides make ozone. Ozone at ground level exacerbates asthma, and it kills crops.

OMG. Take a chill pill or something. We do understand the absolutely huge improbability of getting anything there to here? Given our rate to technological advance, it would be impossible to do within our lifetimes.

Now, back to the silliness.

So, all we need to do is create a craft to do it. Bussard Ramjet could do a round trip in about a 4 months. Might be a bit longer or shorter... I have the calculations around here some where for a 1g acceleration to all the planets.

I'm not sure what we could use to get the liquid methane off the planet. Some kinda robot scoop ship would be cool. Drop it into the middle of a lake, have it navigate to shore... then suck up a couple million gallons of liquid methane... seal itself and fire launch engines to get it back into orbit... dock with the ramship and come back.

things is. by the time we can do that... we wont need the liquid methane.

YES WE WILL ALWAYS NEED MORE FUELS. WE CAN JUST REFINE IT ON MARS, OR A SPACE STATION, SO THE ASTHMA CHILDREN CAN BREATH, AND WE COULD TAKE THE O-ZONE STUFF TO THE PLACES WE'RE RUNNING LOW ON IT AND....

OPEN THE BOTTLE! psssssssssssssssssss :peanutbutterjellytime:

.....PROBLEM SOLVED, SO SOMEBODY GET NASA ON THE PHONE SO THEIR SUPER-NERDS CAN DO THE MATH, 'CAUSE IT IS QUITE BEYOND ME.

Refine it? Into what? It's pure Methane. We can turn it into something else... but you can't get much more refined than Pure.

yes you can....extra extra pure.....like virgin olive oil

Yeah all the exoearth fuels at least right now are more costly than they are worth to get them to a place were they are useful.
