Miranda Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 In my situation, we are extremely alike. There are some differences of course but not many. Do you feel the people you have dated were exactly like you or not? Sometimes I think if you are too alike, you tend to see yourself in each other. I feel it's a positive thing because you then see how you are and that therefore brings self-awareness.
JaneDead Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 i have been attracted to "opposites" and once we got together we wore away at each other until we could not stand each other anymore. it's fun to be with someone different than you but it is really important to have common interests/goals/wants/needs as well.

I agree if your too diffrent you tend not to see eye to eye with anything and wind up bickering with each other....Where if you have more in common theres a lot less to fight about :D
Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Balance. You ahve to have a good amount of common ground.. but you also have to have your differances and space.
know_buddy_kares Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 i really haven't had good luck with opposites attracting well with the opposite sex. what i'm like, is what I hope they're like. I can't stand clingyness to the point where you got to pry them off with a chain saw just to get away from them. Also, ones that are independent enough and confident enough to be able to be their own person. Last thing i want is having to ask for permission to go and get shit faced at a bar somewheres, or vice versa.
Rev.Reverence Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I HAPPEN TO KNOW A COUPLE WHO HAS BEEN TOGETHER FOR YEARS AND THEIR COMMON GROUND IS: 1) THEY BOTH HATE ALMOST EVERYTHING 2) THEY BOTH WENT TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL THE BOY'S & GIRL'S SEGREGATED KIND 3) THEY HAVE ONLY EVER BEEN TOGETHER... IF YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYING 4) THEY ARE BOTH SLACKERS UM THAT'S IT THEY HAVE BALANCE IN EACH OTHER AND I DON'T SEE THEM TEARING APART ANY TIME SOON. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE WIFE & I, COULD NOT LOGICALLY BE MORE ALIKE, SOUL TWINS IT WOULD SEEM. GOOD LUCK IN IN BEATITUDE.
Oh_My_Goth Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Opposites generally attract because it is something different and therefore exciting. Common ground is what makes it last.

creatureofthenyte Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I think, that, just like alot of other things in life, opposites attracting, depends largely upon the people involved. I think it also depends on the nature of the opposite-ness. If the two people involved have absolutely nothing in common, I really don't see how that could work, much past benefriendship. I, myself, have dated at least one woman that could be considered an opposite to me, and it didn't last very long at all. Like Gaf said, there has to be some kind of balance. Some kind of common ground to meet half way on, otherwise there's just no point. In my opinion, the two people involved, should be different enough to have interests to share with each other, but not so different to where they find it hard to talk to each other because they're too different, if that makes any sense. It's also a risk to be too alike as well, because that can sometimes get old and boring rather quickly.
Oh_My_Goth Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 dood, seriously - there's no need to shout!! think you could turn off the CAPS lock for us!? and, welcome to the board!! Why do cap locked letters bother you????????? Have you been burned by them before???? Please Share...
Nienna Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Me and mine are like twin souls (except he's evil, and I only am sometimes.) It's freakish. We eat the same foods, do alot the same things automatically and seriously seem to read eachother's minds. BUT... I have been happy with an opposite before too.
TygerLili Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I don't think I could be with someone who was exactly like me or completely different from me. There has to be a balance. My significant other and i have to have some common ground, but if we agreed on everything life would be completely and utterly boring. My last boyfriend and I were more opposite than we were alike, and I expected it to cause problems for us, but it never really significantly did. The boyfriend before him and I were much more alike, and we fought much more often.
Steven Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Balance. You have to have a good amount of common ground.. but you also have to have your differances and space. exactly. exactly, exactly.
Homicidalheathen Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 my experience has been......in the long run, they will just GET ON YOUR NERVES BIG TIME it may be fun and exciting at first....... But I want to grow old with someone who GETS me. So I married him.
