Who Is Your Favorite Artist?

OH goodness I love art, I soon rather pick a star out of the sky than to pick the one true artist that goes with all my many moods and motifs.. but this one right here.. seems fitting for DGN :)

It's by Henry Fuseli (German born in Switzerland I believe, moved to England) but anyway it's called "The Nightmare". It was featured in a movie called "Gothic" kind of a cheesie movie made in the '80's directed by Ken Russell (I believe).

I shared this with a friend of mine recently. It's like Oh_My_Goth has been reading my emails..eheheh jk :)

BTW I believe this hangs at the DIA. :)

I'm with Hunhee. I couldn't possibly pick one artist as my favorite (and yes, that is currently displayed at the DIA. I just saw it Wednesday.

I will say that when we were at the DIA this painting really struck me. The colors, the detail, the expressions and use of light, shading and mood. I nearly teared up looking at it. The web pic does not do it justice in any way. I think I enjoy this era and movement above the others.

My two favorite artists are practically polar opposites.

First there is Ivan Albright, who's a painter of death and decay (That Which I Should Have Done I Did Not Do)

Then there is Igor Medvedev who is a painter of light. (Gone Fishing)

I have to agree with you and say Dali. I have his Burning Giraffe tattoed on my right arm. Well the begining of it anyway. it still needs atleast 4 more sitting. Just for all the coloring and shading that must be done.

It's my favorite painting of all time and has been since I was about 10 ish.

Being i fine art fanatic from Mr. Barrels 6th grade art class all the way through to my mid-twenties It would be impossible to pick just one. I used to wander around the DIA by myself for hours on end for lack of anyone to go with. I was a fine art major and had planned on being a painter since i was a little boy, until that whole.. damn reality thing set in. :secret:

If forced I'd have to agree with many above... Dali. I once forced a friend of mine to come with me to florida for the sole purpose of going to the Salvador Dali museum in St. Petersburg. I've currently got Hallucinogenic Toreador as a print on my wall, not because its my favorite but because its my favorite surprise. That particular painting i never thought much of, even having known about it for years. But , when you see it in the museum its fucking HUGE compared to what your expecting and they have it displayed just right , so when you go around a corner of what is a smallish room, the room opens up very large and this gigantic THING is on the wall. On paper in smaller form it doesn't have the visual punch that it does in real life.

Giger probably would a close second, i cant help it, i love the technique and the sick , twisted , sexual gothic / industrial science fiction... maybe its just the sexual deviancy. :stuart:

I hope I'm not taking this thread into the wrong direction.

Although merely a cartoonist, Edward Gorey has always been a favorite of mine.

It's SOOOOO Good.. I wish I could get a full size image of it, just the details and everything about it.. is completely amazing.. *sighs*

I may not be wholly religious, but the inspiration that it (religion) invokes in it's artists.. is absolutely heavenly.
