This is a subject I hold near and dear. I have several trucker friends, and I was also raised in a truck till the age of 9. Lets help them out and show support! Our world would be a mess without them!

Trucking is definitely a fairly thankless, dangerous job i agree. I also have several friends in the trucking industry.

Is that what that website is really talking about? It looks more like a "Truckers against the war in Iraq" political statement. Rather than a "Support the truckers." thing particularly, unless I'm reading it wrong.

Its not against the war in iraq, its about raising fuel prices...... most truckers have to pay for their own fuel as owner operators, if people havent noticed fuel is over $4.00 a gallon for them. It used to be cheaper then gasoline.... not anymore. This is for not only Big rigs but everyone... your local tow truck drivers, garbage trucks, dump trucks, and anyone else who uses diesel fuel.

I thinks its more about fuel costs screwing up the worlds economy, every CEO of EXXON, Shell, let alone OPEC should be hung.

I have 3 best friends of mine that are truckers, and yes they have to deal with alot of BS on the road from bs fuel costs to having to keep a sharp eye on stupid ignorant drivers that don't signal and cut them off.Its not an easy job.

I have respect for Most truckers.

It is a thankless job.

I don't have respect for those truckers who choose to be assholes to me, when I am entering the highway via the entrance ramp and they choose not to move over one lane to let me in, but rather they choose to force me to stomp my gas pedal to get into the lane, just to prevent them from running me into a ditch. Now as far as the fuel thing goes, I feel bad for the truckers. Some things you may not know; when oil is bought and sold throughout the world, it is traded in US dollars, no matter where its bought or sold. Now, since the US dollar has weakened in value against foreign currency, that has driven the cost of oil up dramatically. There is also the whole supply and demand thing, and also it costs more to make diesel then it does to make gas. Something to do with the refining process. Not to mention the taxes on fuel. Connecticut, by the way, has the highest fuel tax in the nation.

So, yeah I have respect for Most truckers, but, until things get better with the value of the dollar, we're all screwed.

Sorry to hear that bud. I usually move over if I have the lane available, but if someone is coming up on me in that lane, I make the people coming onto the highway yield as they are supposed to.

But yes, fuel prices affect me even though I personally don't pay them. I only have two 100 gallon tanks and it takes the better of $600 to fill up each time and I fill up almost every day. Add that all up on a 5 or 7 day work week and you see how much it bites into making any money at all. I haul ethanol most of the time so I am pretty much a bomb on wheels. There was supposed to be an organized effort with the owner operators a week ago that never really did any good. Most company drivers keep driving because they could be fired for shutting down. That and everyone needs to keep making money in order to support their family. I'm not sure what the real answer is except to put more of the fuel bill on the consumer as it has started to already. I am sure you all have seen the cost of milk coffee and other grocery go up. This is mainly due to the transportation costs to bring it to you. A lot of factors are included along with the trucking industry to help bring the economy down i.e. jobs going across borders, weakening dollar, housing market, high gas prices. They all tie into each other and make it worse as it goes along.

I am just lucky that my boss allows me to drive my truck here to where I can park nearby. His terminal is based out of Decatur, MI on the western side. Saves me a lot of money in gas for my personal vehicle compared to my last local job which was costing me an average of $300 a month in commuting costs. I just think its going to take an immense american effort in all to bring some justice into this great country. Just not sure of the way it has to be done.

i agree with you it is being pushed onto the consumer, i feel so bad when I have to charge people for fuel now when renting a limo ,ofcorse i dont for my special customers :) but even the coach takes diesel and what are we to do when all people do is drive around for 6 hours LOL we eat half the cost, but we are barly makeing a profit now.... I really think its gonna be a tough year for us if we even servive it........ :/ after all we are only a luxuary!

Truckers are nice :) And they're job totally, totally sucks. If it weren't for them, how the hell would I get organges in December? Or ever for that matter?

I don't think they're allowed to do this anymore, but I remember when we would go on road trips when we were kids my sister and I would make the motion for them to blow they're horn and they would and we would DIE. We thought it was the COOLEST thing EVER. Seriously, it made car rides to Florida alot more fun for everybody.

Sorry dude. That is a misperception. The Oil companys get 8 cents per gallon profit. Government get 48 cents per gallon.

Prices are so high because:

1. the dollar isnlt worth shit right now.

2. Oil is traded for profit on the exchange.

I was married to a trucker. My best-friend's husband is a trucker. Half of my friends are truckers ... My Dad was a trucker. I was in a severe car accident that a trucker hit my car.

My life has been full of truckers.

I remember when my ex was OTR how much it cost to fill up the truck (we paid fuel costs on his truck, which was leased) ... I can only imagine it's pretty much doubled by now.

I love being a trucker on convoys in Iraq. Nothing is better than knowing the road belongs to you.

This was my baby:
