Fierce Critter Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I can possibly solve my scanning problem with the use of a 3rd party scanning software package. I'm having a dickens of a time finding one, however. Everything I'm reading about on sites like zdnet etc are mainly for OCR text scanning. I'm mostly concerned with scanning images. Any help/suggestions out there?
Scary Guy Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I know Adobe Photoshop has built in software for it. I'm not sure about other imaging programs though. But I figure if you're doing graphics why not directly scan it into one of the best imaging programs ever.
Fierce Critter Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 I have Photoshop. But it doesn't have built-in software for scanning as far as I can see. Of course, I've got version 8 or 9, something ancient like that. You referring to a newer version? Perhaps it's time for an upgrade.
Daevion Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 I have version 7.0 or something around there , it works great for what I paid (LOL, yeah right) for it.
Fierce Critter Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 Urgh. I have 5.5. REALLY ancient. So, what's the earliest version with scanning software?
Daevion Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Urgh. I have 5.5. REALLY ancient. So, what's the earliest version with scanning software? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm pretty sure 7.0 has it, although I don't have the program loaded at work so I can't verify that. this looks like thier newest version http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/main.html which I don't have but would like to for a reasonable price *cough* free *cough* ack! damn this michigan weather.. :grin
Fierce Critter Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 Thanks, Daevion. I'll be looking into that.
Scary Guy Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 As far as I know they had it in 5.5 Look under FILE and then Import Though that is pretty old but I'm fairly certain that it was included back then. http://willamette.edu/wits/resources/docs/...shop/basics.htm Sweet, google is awesome. However it looks like it just takes it directly from the scanner software. Newer versions have it built in I think.
Fierce Critter Posted April 30, 2005 Author Posted April 30, 2005 I "upgraded" to version 8 CS. It still takes you to the scanner's software, or doesn't recognize it at all. I have to do some tweaking to see if I can get around this somehow. I managed to find complete instructions on how to totally remove the drivers & related files for the scanner I'm trying to use. Once I run through that (it's about 10 pages long and requires regedits & stuff), I'll try installing the scanner with just the Windows default drivers and see if that helps. If not, guess I'll just have to chalk this up to a wasted yard-sale purchase. At least it was only $3.00. I can't believe there isn't a way around this, though. I'm currently using a pretty old Microtek SCSI scanner that is TOTALLY not supposed to be able to run on XP, but I managed to get it to work. But the USB Visioneer I picked up is 42 bit, and MUCH faster, so I really wish I could get it to work.
cthulhu63 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Do a google search of your make and model number driver. I.e: CanoScan FB-620P driver Or, look through: Scanner-Drivers.com Sometimes the disk you have will be bad, or it just needs to have the driver reinstalled due to other issues like file moving or corruption.
Fierce Critter Posted May 1, 2005 Author Posted May 1, 2005 I've been all over google, and dozens of websites. It's a common complaint about this scanner - and other Visioneer products. They didn't make a driver for XP for it, and their customer service is reportedly horrible. One review I read of it on some website was from a guy who said he managed to get it to work using 3rd party scanning software. But he didn't say which kind. I've yet to have time to run through all those removal instructions. Once I do, I'll report back what transpires.
cthulhu63 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Try one for Windows98-Windows2000. I've had luck with running them, even if they don't specifically say they will work on XP.
