I've seen a few comments about the playlists in this thread and in others, and I've been thinking....

If you were to get pages upon pages of requests on a Saturday night, how do you pick which to play and make sure that they're easily matched with the song that you play before. I've said it before, I'll say it again... the dj's aren't going to be able to please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Perhaps instead of bitching that they don't have something that you want to hear, you see if they can get it for future play. Also I really think that having the dj's see people bitching about what they're trying to play and please people with all the time really makes them *not* want to play anything for anyone. I mean I realize it's their job, but if people were constantly bitching about the job you're doing, wouldn't you get discouraged after awhile?

Perusing Saturday's playlist posted by DJ Elektrosonik on the city club website, there were 78 songs played that night. 15 of which were played between 10-11 when only losers like me are there. That leaves 63 songs played through out the night when the majority of the people are there. Elektrosonik played 37 songs, 19 were requested. J9 played 26 songs, and while she admits she was too lazy to mark which songs were requested, J9 is one that will try to play as many requests as she can. I'm going to go on the low side and say out of the 26 songs played, I'd say 8-12 were requests. Actually I noticed she played one of my songs after I left *mourns at not boogying to Siousxie's Cities in Dust*

I'd say that's a pretty good average of DJ picked songs and club patrons' requests. While they're trying to get to what people are requesting, most of them are trying to play stuff that may make you boogie along with the stuff that you request.

I'd love to see a dress code, (i.e.: no fratboys in wifebeaters and ballcaps, no "Barbie" girls in flip flops and pink fuzzy jackets) how damn hard is it to put on a black shirt?

No Wiggers or preps

That's another totally awesome idea

Cleaner and better lighting would be nice. Maybe drink specials.

I once witnessed a guy wearing a VARSITY JACKET.

And no, it was not Halloween, nor was he there with a chick wearing a cheerleader outfit as evidence that he ad just come from a costume party of some sort.

I don't believe in a CC dress code for most things, but COME ON! WTF was he thinking?

Better Sound System...

thats all I want, i dont care if its filthy, whats the point of listening to music if you cant hear half of whats supposed to be going on.

Its not hard to play requests, they just dont want to trail away from there playlist.

I dont think there needs to be a dress code, so much as a higher fee to get in if your not in scene wear. That way they are paying to be idiots, or will eventually want to pay less and play dress up for the night.

ALL this talk of not letting people in dressed this way or that... Fascist Elitism... that's what I'm reading...

..what about the 18 yr old kid who only just found the scene?

..what about some people who just got off work?

..what if I DON'T FEEL LIKE A BLACK T-SHIRT?????

...What about when way back in the beginning day's when there was no 'INDUSTRIAL' bar?

..and the only people who would accept FREIKS like us were the Homosexuals?

..they did not say thing like you people are... I understand allot of ass holes come to Club and aren't cool with themselves to the point of ridiculing US in OUR bar...

.... don't lower yourselves to their level... take the example of the gracious HOMO... be accepting, explain things... don't just sit in the corner 'untouchable' like the latex people casting judgments at kids that never got a chance.

agreed.

honestly, there should be no ego involved when it comes to djing in the "goth" scene.

playing track to track, cross fading intro/outros, & beatmatching for maybe 8 measures doesn't warrant having an ego or attitude.

like i have mentioned before, dj's in the goth scene are loved/hated on whether they play requests & how fast it takes to play them and no matter what you do someone will talk shit.

you can have a dj play a set with the smoothest tranisitions/mixes/etc of all new/unknown muzik and most people will say it sucks, then the next dj can play all requests and goth club mega hits and most people will say how great they were. it's called being an organic jukebox.

i dj wednesdays at mephisto's & i play all the requests i recieve that fit with the night. once i was asked to play nickelback, which i couldn't/wouldn't play. granted i don't get "pages" of requests, but i find it hard to believe that most of the requests can't get played being that cc is open until 4:30am.

I don't think I have an ego, I try to be friendly and easy going as much as possible and I don't expect to please everyone 100% of the time either. But when every thread I read regarding City Club lately keeps telling me how bad I am and that I don't care pisses me off a little. I love this scene, I love this music and I bust my ass trying to help, support and promote everything I can just to get bitched at and torn down at every turn. As for the requests, have you ever looked at how many requests we usually play in a night? On top of that trying to make smooth transitions so we don't cut from Wolfsheim to Grendel. Then yes there are some ignored requests, I don't know about you but I don't really want to listen to Korn or Twizted at City Club, at least not on the dancefloor (Bishop should be able to play what he wants). We also have to cut out alot of redundancy, unless you want to hear 15 NIN tracks, and then as hard as it may seem there are some requests that we simply don't have. Oh, and don't forget that half the request sheet is usually completely illegible, whether the person writing it did it or some drunk wrote over the top of it, I can't play what I can't read. FYI, Friday we had at least 9 full pages of requests in case you were wondering.

This is a bad ass dude... "what playlist?" he sais...

...I for one, have a personal bent on what I want to hear... the DJ is not at fault for this... sometimes, I can not GET on the dancefloor... 'cause I don't feel the groove...

... OTHER TIMES, I CAN NOT LEAVE THE DANCE FLOOR....

................that's just how it goes...............

the ego comment was a general statement, it wasnt directed at one certain person.

please dont take this as an attack, it's just a rebuttle to your post.

you mentioned that on fridays you play a lot of requests.

the last friday playlist for cc that was posted was for april 4th, unless i read the post wrong...

that night you guys played 19 requests out of 74 total songs, that seems like a decent amount of requests played, but if you're getting a up to 9 pages of requests that doesnt seem like many.

perhaps there were less people there that night, i wasnt there.

you have valid points, especially with drunken illegible hand writing and songs that dont fit the theme of the night.

If you only want to hear requests, get a freaking juke box. That way Mike can make more money.

If you want a dress code, go to a 'higher class' club. WHO CARES what people wear in there. Oh_My_Goth came in tie-dye last Saturday. You gonna kick her out?

Sorry if this sounds bitchy, but come on. You who complain about not hearing requests, do you actually go out of your way to talk to the dj's or just jot down something on the paper expecting it to be played? They're human beings, they like to be appreciated for the job that they're doing. I would laugh my ass off if they dedicated one Saturday night to all requests, because people would still complain.

Posted

i'm satisfied with the music, the only request i ever make is to cut out some of the techno crap which really doesn't bother me too much.

and the dress code thing? that's..........lammmme

that same attitude is why i can't stand some of the crowd at necto

i always supported the attitude of "being yourself" regardless of what that may be

just don't be a douche that's all.

what about bruce? he's always around and he's cool as fuck! and he dresses quote unquote preppy.

or me and shaun for that matter? sometimes we dress up but rarely. i just show in literally what i was wearing that day and it doesn't always fall under some of the extreme fashions seen there.

that's awesome if a lot of people like going to extremes but not all of us do. personality should speak for itself

and besides, who else would i get to make fun of and people watch on fridays if there was a dress code lol?

THAT'S RIGHT, BIA-TCHES!!!!! :rant::rant::rant::rant::rant:

I will not be moved.....Even in rainbow tie-die.....I WILL NOT BE MOVED!!!!!

I will start wearing pink POLO, with khaki capri pants.....

OK, so I wouldn't really do that, but I don't believe that dressing up should be a rule......

That is Re-COCK-U-less!!!!!

I dress up, when I feel dressy.....Down, when I feel messy :teehee:

I know some of the "Normals" look at us funny, and this place has always been a haven for many "Freaks".....So I understand why some may say that, but don't try to sound all fascist about it.....

It makes outsiders feel special in some weird way just to be around such debauchery.....You can't take that away from people, that would be selfish.....Not to mention down right silly.

i dont believe anyone mentioned playing ALL requests, but a good number should be played if they are made. goth dj's are partial jukeboxes (no disrespect).

there's no skill/art in playing track to track via cd's or even worse using a laptop with programs like mixmeister or traktor that do the mixing for you.

dj's in the "goth" scene need to make the crowd happy & also expose to them to new music to help the scene keep going.

hence why a smart dj will throw a new/unknown track inbetween 2 well known/hits.

anyone can buy/download the alpha matrix, metropolis, etc catalogs and play oontz all night.

creating a balance is what not all can do.
