I am starting this thread for those who wish to get their first tattoo. Those of you who have them, please if you can, recommend a shop with a general location so those of us looking will have an idea of who is close to us worth checking out. Thank you in advance for the help.

Bluz Tattooz, Waterford

Dan = manager

Very clean, professional. Good artwork. I prefer tribal, but all art rendered

PM me, if you want some ink done in a Tribal set, I also am good to go with words, symbols, abstract concepts...I am practicing fire in the next couple of weeks...(I think I am ready, and need a splash on my thigh...)

(I AM VERY SPIRITUAL ABOUT THE BODY MODS)...I use BRAND NEW NEEDLES...(So does my wife, she pierces)...

I am not scared to go over scar tissue...many Tattooists will not do that...

I DO NOT DO PORTRAIT, OR REALISM...I know how to work the needles, I am not an 'artist' per say...

..I will not attempt things I do not think I can finish...

I will start a thread in the adverts forum, when I get a camera.. (to show off some work)

LATERZ...

Marked 4 Life - southbound Vandyke..about nine mile area...small shop...guys know what they are doing.

if your EVER in AZ....go to Bullhead, to a place called The Chamber....you want Deuce/ Dan Daniels...and you tell him that his boy, "Forsaken" Dave from Detroit, sent ya....he's one of the best kats this business will probally ever see.

I wouldn't use the following

ANYTHING with the word Inkslingers on the front....or an artist that used to work for them....if you find that...thank them..and walk away...every inksligner/ former inkslinger artist I've ever met is much to arrogant and iffy to be a proper tat artist.

Lady Luck Tattoos...these guys can't even do a symetrical playing card diamond...and their art stealers...passing origional work other ppl have done as their own....

Cherry bomb- they do decent work...but the prices are beyond what should be charged..like at least $100 over for most tats.

I only know Ann Arbor, and I have only been to two, but with much research. I'm not the kind of person that spontanusly goes out and gets ink. I research first, find someone I can connect with on a personal level, and then work from there.

Name Brand Tattoo- I have ink done by both Jeff and Dawn and they are both AMAZING. Jeff is a bit more heavy handed then Dawn, but they both do awesome work.

Spiral Tattoo- If your looking for something tribal I HIGHLY ( and I don't say that lightly) Leo, he is one the the best in the US, let alone MI. Also, the only other person I would let touch me in that shop is Mike. Either Mike or Leo, NO OTHER!!!! =)

One thing, TATTOOING IS expensive!!!! You get what you pay for, if your artist is charing $100 its most likely because HE IS WORTH IT. Don't go to cheap artist, because you get what you pay for. Research them first, talk to people who have had ink done by them, look through all there books.

Eternal has done my piercings ... all of them but my ears actually.

But I'm not amused with their tattoo work. Neither is anyone else I know.

Everyone I know swears by:

They're cool. I wonder if Chris is still tattooing? He did some of my husband's stuff. The shop is *very clean*, too. Very good work for reasonable prices.

Mine was done by Eternal Tattoo as well, but in Taylor.

This was about 13 years ago, not even sure if that shop is still around or not!

But it is AWESOME!

What about the Oakland County area? Any suggestions/recommendations?

I have a pretty detailed concept and a sketch, just want to meet with someone and get pricing first...and look at their work/size them up...so to speak...

And then save up money....

FYI...

If you DON'T have one? They are PRICEY! My first one is pretty good sized and VERY intricate, and cost me about $200 I want to say, but after my guy got done with it, he told me that he would NEVER do that design again (Another custom one we somewhat converted to suit my tastes better) for under $350. (Keep in mind...this was 13 years ago!)

But I will tell you this...13 years later, as long as I have shaved my legs and they are moisturized, man... it still looks like the first day I got it!

So Money IS important kids!

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! :respect:

Hope that helps...

I'm not trying to be cheap but I don't want to pay $100 or more for 2 simple chinese characters. I can understand that kind of pricing on something more involved tho.

I will have to post a pic of my butterfly tat.

It was well worth the money, it is about 3 inches wide and about 2 inches tall, and there is A LOT of detail work to it, and my guy blended the colors of it awesomely!

I think that is why I am so skard to go to another shop. I found like the best buy to do my first ink, and I am not going to find this level of skill/quality again I guess.

That whole thing about "lightning striking twice" and all that...

I had my first by finest at gibraltar N

They wouldn't even answer the phone yesturday...on a Saturday? Bad buisness.

It was a real easy tattooo anyway....

What I have found out about local uv tats

This guy in in Taylor who does UV won't give me a phone quote...or consultation appt and all the highways were closed yesturday he is way too busy really, the receptionist said I may drive all that way and not get to talk to him he is like a tattoo guru or some shit his name is Tom or Tim or Joe (its the owner guy) He works at Baby dolls He is using Chameleon...different shades and His drawing is excellent

The guy in roseville only uses yellow uv ink (cherry bomb) and he says its the only color that works but I see different online so I am not going there....He also says only yellow is invisible NOT under a black light but I see something different online...he doesn't sound experienced at uv much really

So I might go see Lisa Strange in Montross at Acid works...I don't like her drawing as much as The babydolls guy but my symbol is easy really

Uv has to be the cameleon brand or the pigments are not small enough and It has to be done under a black light and first, then the dark is done after the uv portion heals. They can over work the skin, it might not come out even ect ect you have to be careful who does it and the brand ink they use

So Lisa knows what she is doing, I will prob go there.

Phillip James of Royal Oak hell don't think he even works in a shop...real good but hard to get ahold of, all I found was a myspace. With a bunch of people trying to get ahold of him...dunno....I like someone who works in a shop. For sanitary reasons.

Ok so I got the whole info on the raver uv tats

if you dont want it to look strange or fady or wierd...white is the way to go

turns out invisable even on pale faces like me

I am so excited and will post pics after it heals

Phillip James is the guy to see I think
