GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 So.... trying to avoid feeling dumb. but what's with all these ppl wearing gas masks, and surgical masks? not that i am complaining about the look (cuz its hawt) but yeah... and instead of googling it, i wanna hear from you guys. well, i did, but only for pictures.. lol
nilhil_glory Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 thats the exact reason =) along with post apocolyptic undertones =)
Rev.Reverence Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I don't know about surgical masks, other than a 'medical fetish' and X freiks put Vaporub in them I don't know why. Gas masks...have you seen "The Wall"..?
TygerLili Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I suspect it has to do with the whole, futuristic, sci-fi look that appeals to cybergoths. Personally I think it looks dumb, but I'm not a fan of the plastic hair and goggles and other such cybergoth trends either. So whatever floats your boat...

As to MY goggles...they are an ornament of SAFETY.. EVERYONE who uses a whip (of any kind) (for anything) should have a pair! OR TWO! (edit to add "I don't care..for plastic hair...either")
TygerLili Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 As to MY goggles...they are an ornament of SAFETY.. EVERYONE who uses a whip (of any kind) (for anything) should have a pair! OR TWO! Or anyone who has to dance next to someone whiping their plastic hair around.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 lmao... you guys are silly.. so some of you are for it, some against it, and some don't care.. what's the coolest thing you have seen, w/ these two looks, thus far (and you don't have to like a look or trend to find something about it neat)
Homicidalheathen Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I think its some wierd fetish thing that grew into a fashion....? I have never liked it much. Dont go for goggles either, but I am old school.
amalthea23 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I agree, I think it's mostly about the "dark future" angle. For the people who can pull it off, it looks pretty cool.
Constantin Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 why do people wear gas masks and surgical masks i wonder if people were curious about the bellbottoms in the 70s or the fish in the shoes or the flock of seagulls haircuts or why emo kids look so ridiculas. fashion is fashion why try to understand it just accept it. but if someone threw a mustard gas bomb in cc you would wish you had gas mask so maybee they know something we dont?????????????
Miranda Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I would think this is all just about expressing yourself, as cliche` as it all sounds. Personally, it all seems a bit futuristic to me, so maybe that is the exciting thing for some people? You are also hiding part of yourself with this type of gear so maybe that also plays a role in things.
Miranda Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Actually, I do think those rubber gas masks can be kinda sexy, now that I think of it.
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 they make me look cute hahahha okay, i must clarify... i was drooling over the look, not the guy... silly ppl.. lol
Hellion Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 why do people wear gas masks and surgical masks i wonder if people were curious about the bellbottoms in the 70s or the fish in the shoes or the flock of seagulls haircuts or why emo kids look so ridiculas. fashion is fashion why try to understand it just accept it. but if someone threw a mustard gas bomb in cc you would wish you had gas mask so maybee they know something we dont????????????? You never know
nilhil_glory Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 You never know haha on a lucky night you might need it walking into the bathroom
Destroit Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Or anyone who has to dance next to someone whiping their plastic hair around. But that just means I'm SO goth that I need to cause the other surrounding patrons at CC a good amount of pain in order to enjoy dancing. I dig the resperator, surgury mask, etc, thing. To me it's creative and an easy to way switch up your outfit and do something new (or at least that you haven't done before or don't do often). It gets a little old if someone wears it every weekend, especially if it's the same one every weekend. But hey, that's coming from someone who banks on UV yellow/green and black as a combo all the time .
Destroit Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I agree, I think it's mostly about the "dark future" angle. For the people who can pull it off, it looks pretty cool. Indeed, it does look totally hott. Actually, you guys really wanna know the secret? Not the secret behind the mask trend, but I know why us cyber industrial goth girls wear goggles: To keep our hair in place! Since a whole lot of us wear hairfalls, I'm guessing you know why kind of pain in the ass it is to not only put them in, but to keep them in place though a whole night of dancing. The more things you have to hold them in place (i.e. bobby pins, hairties, headbands, wraps...and GOGGLES) the better the odds are they'll keep looking sexy throughout the night. So instead of just wearing some plain ol' headband or headwrap and be boring, some of us top off the post-apocalyptic style with goggles because not only do they fit the genre and look totally sweet BUT they're secretly functional, too. And now..you all know
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I used to go further then the gasmasks....I had this paintball helmet...think I still might have it......had a full mask, etc....I mod'd it out and painted it....make it look like African Tribal meets Cyber-futuristic....was pretty neat...I'll have to see if I can find it and take a couple shots for all of ya...
Oh_My_Goth Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Ok, I can say this is defiatly a hot look..... The only thing I would not like about it (If I was the kind of person to pick up chicks at bars)..... Is she really that hot w/o all that shit on..... Especially when she washes her eyebrows off.....
EnViOuSPoPpEt Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Actually most of them are not that pretty without the makeup(also without the eye contacts too) on.. pitty... makeup gives and takes lol
GothicRavenGoddess (3) Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 yeah, if you guys have pictures of yourself or ones you find online, please, by all means, share them. and i can see why Cher. your explanation makes a lot of sense. and you know what? DBK's hair actually hold his goggles in place (sorry for giving away your secrets) lol but yeah... i didn't question it when i saw him wearing them. and goggles in general don't seem that out there... but i have also noticed that some places are making "gas masks" for bondage wear. so yeah....
EnViOuSPoPpEt Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Now-o-days it seems like the body matters .. the face is just a blank so what ever gets you hot. I mean I like the gas mask look, but I wouldn't get kinky with it in bed.. that would be a bit awkward. Unless Tom was feeling a bit freaky lol.
