"Evil Avatar has the word that even Best buy is selling Half Life 2 boxes at this point. If you're planning on picking this one up it should be available pretty much anywhere. Voodoo Extreme has news from Steam that in no uncertain terms are the delays in opening the game to customers their fault. From the article: "This is not Valve's choice. Vivendi is insisting that the game has not yet been released, and has threatened that Valve would be in violation of its contract if we activate the Half-Life 2 Steam authentication servers at this time."

Actually Best Buy was not selling them for more than 5 hours (I work there until Friday). They opened it up for eployee purchase, as you can't actually play the game till the activation servers go live at 3am today. But word came down rom the corporate offices a few hours after the inventory managers started selling them, to stop.

I kind of figured they would get told to put it away...

Yeah, we got word that it was okay to sell, as it was unplayable until the activation servers went up, until corporate had red flags going up that they were getting sold. Most of these sales were to employees only however. I know my store didn't sell a single copy to customers.

Picked up a copy last night on my way home... Too bad I only have a laptop thats good enough to play it... Due to it having a mobility ATI card in it its unplayable... So I guess I will have to look into a new system... Which will be months away... :unhappy:
