Hello and welcome to DGN! Pull up a chair and chat with us a bit. Don't worry we only bite when asked.

I started out with Fine Art... then mophed into GD... ended up doing something totally not related to art at all... Was depressing at the time, but i got over it. Strangely I've heard similar stories to my own at least once a month for the last 9 years or so (which is roughly how long i've been out of school)

Anyhow welcome to the place again. Hopefully we can trick you into visiting us more often.

yeah actually i started in fine arts as well, then moved to graphic design, then stopped all together. Currently i've been thinking about taking online courses for Game Development and Design. Think it would be a good way to enjoy my day at work lol.

I toyed with game design as well. I just kept thinking "do i REALLY have the motivation to break into these types of industries? Am i really ready to just up and move at a moments notice?" the answer, after much agonizing, ended up being no. Fine Art or even just Illustration takes massive motivation , game dev takes both massive motivation and the willingness to move to wherever the next job is.

I'm fairly self motivated, but not so much into my art that i was willing to drop everything for it. The game design thing requires even more, both massive dedication and a willingness to "follow the work" geographically. They are similar to acting and other hard-to-break-into industries in that they usually suggest "If you'd be happy doing ANYTHING else, do that instead." It just takes so much time/energy and you basically have to give up the rest of your life to them. Unless its just more of a hobby / semi professional type thing that you don't actually make your living off of, which might be a mid-ground.

Do I dare ask what you ended up doing instead?

This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...

Well we were supposed to leave last night, but life has a way of making plans for you. I'm about to get up and get ready to go on our vacation. Had and still have a lot to do.  Not easy to just up and leave a ranch with a lot of animals and things that need taken care of. We even have people here to watch and tend things while we're gone, but still.   I had to change the radiator in my car before we leave - got that done last night. Took a lot more out of me than I thought it would, so by the time I finished I had little energy for anything else. Today I just have a couple more quick things to do on the car, like cleaning it and packing stuff. Couple of minor things to do around the ranch today, as well.   I figure we should be on the road this evening sometime. I'm looking forward to it. We're going to see the wife's side of the family, people I actually like,  in Vegas and AZ. Should only be gone for a few days, maybe a week. Going to the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead and all kinds of stuff in between, so I'm pretty stoked. I LOVE the Southwest.   Wish me luck that my car survives the desert! (Hence new radiator) 🤠👍

Sometimes sleep can be a scary thing.  I passed out so hard at 4:54pm today.  Yesterday wiped me out with rentals, appointments and helping a lost dog get back home.  Fortunately, I found him on Facebook and contacted the owners and he was picked up before nightfall.  But I think I totally overdid it and paid for it today in the middle of handling business.  Thankfully it was some work at home stuff.   I definitely do not like being that kind of tired.  It's like the World could end and I'd wake up afterwards trying to find out what happened.
