Six fixes for Pricey Gasoline

Recommended Posts

Out of the list, here are the good ideas:

Limit oil speculation

Lift the ethanol tariff

Tough love (i.e. tell America, "tough shit, take mass transit, use other forms of transpo (ethanol cars, hybrid, electric) or put up and shut up." IMO God hates whiners.)

BAD Ideas:

Tax oil companies more, give the money to motorists (I'm not for taxes, if you don't like how they run business, boycott them. Once again, if you whine about it: tough shit. We shouldn't have to tax them for making money fair and square off of our ignorance and the fact that we always wait for Daddy Government to fix shit instead of taking matters into our own hands like we should.)

Ease refining restrictions (easing clean air restrictions? No thanks, I enjoy breathing and not being filled with any more toxins than I need to be. Also, think of the other creatures on this planet except just yourself. I hate this because it promotes selfishness, once again)

Open the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (See above explination: i.e. we're spoiled and need to actually think for once. That is just a stupid short term fix that would fuck up more stuff in the long run than solve. Also, they are called RESERVES i.e. meant to be used in an emergency, not just because people are spoiled, lazy, and refuse to think for themselves.)

Suspend the gas tax (Ever drive in Detroit? That's what the roads would look like if we didn't have a tax for driving. Also, road workers would be laid off left and right making the economy WORSE not BETTER. So this is MASSIVELY counter-productive)

Ahhhh I had such a nice bus ride today, spanning over 20 miles and costing me a grand total of $1.75. This high gas price shit is the LIFE, gives me a chance to make fun of whiners too (i.e. people who live on a bus-line and refuse to take it and then bitch about gas prices).

Until they improve mass transit, that operates also on the freeways 24 hours 7 days a week, some of us that have no choice to drive far would be alot happier.Detroits system sucks,IMO

and yes when a loaf of bread costs $20 dollars you will whine too.

sorry about the rudeness but some of us others don't have it easy either.you can thank Rockafellar the 4rth and OPEC for shity fuel prices, nough said.

People who have a lot of money and still complain about gas prices, can take a long walk off a short end of a pier,(PS this is not directed at anyone on the board)

Yeah.

I'm getting a little sick of the "People who whine about gas prices and dont take the bus can shut up" rants, too.

Not everyone CAN take the bus, Chernobyl. That doesnt make them whiners, losers, lazy, or stupid.

Personally? I live out in the sticks, and work in a city. Why? Housing is 200-700 dollars cheaper out here. Same with electricity prices, and just about everything else.

I HAVE to drive my car. I'm 38 miles from where i work. A lot of people on this board are in the same type of situation.

Thankfully, as long as gas prices dont go up TOO drastically, I'm still saving more money living out here than living directly in Indy and having to pay for gas to drive to work.

I just recalculated my mileage. 87 miles on one gallon of gas. Munin, I sincerely suggest you get yourself a two wheeled vehicle.

DRILL ANWR!

Posted

Drill ANWR = continue to rely on a 150 year old economic model in spite of the fact that North America is the Saudi Arabia of coal and can turn every drop of flue gas into diesel fuel from algae.

A barrel of oil may reach 150 dollars by the Fourth of July, and it would take at least two years before ANWR came online.

We have electricity, ethanol, butanol, natural gas, biodiesel from algae or waste vegetable oil or virgin vegetable oil, and the manufacturing capacity to wean our selves off of oil in the next ten years.

Or, we can drill ANWR, and prop up the oil economy for five or more years.

i drive a rather small, fuel efficient vehicle (toyota ECHO). I am terminally klutzy, and would likely kill myself and others on a bike. My husband, however, could probably ride one without incident. :p

Look, simply put you are only going to pay what you are willing to pay for gas.

You can always get a gas scooter that tops out at 30mph and gets an average of 100mpg.

Fore those that are thinking to slow, to kidish or to faggy "shove your V8 where the sun don't shine and walk."

I have no choice but to drive a mini van that only gets about 25mpg because we have 2 kids, can't afford a smaller car and my pay has only gone up 3% in the last 5 years with rent going up health care going up ect ect I only bring home what I did when I was working full time at McEvils and you will never hear me complain about gas prices going up. 5 days a week and some times 7 I walk 14 miles, stand on my feet for the better part of 8 hours and then walk 14 miles again.

You can, you will, compensate for rising energy costs or you will die.

Rather then useless complaining, study the problem as it pertains to you and do something about it to live.

You never know you may find you just simply start feeling better because of all the life style changes that will happen just because you started walking to the corner store rather then driving 2 blocks.

You may even find that your the next political genius and solve quite few problems with our government that prevents us from solving problems as individuals. Like forcing my land lord to let me have solar panels.

Uh... My gas Scooter tops out in the high forties. Fifty if there is a tail wind. The high forties will get you anywhere you want to go in metro Detroit.

And no, my masculinity is not threatened, thank you very much.

Quick Vote

What's your key economic issue this election year?

*

Gas prices

*

Health care

*

Jobs

*

Housing

This is an aside in the article mentioned above...I seem to remember one of these polls a while back, but Gay Marriage was in place of Gas Prices.

I was tripped-up THEN because I kept hearing (in personal conversations) more people caring about Withdrawing our Troops from Iraq...

(I have never seen that as an answer to one of these polls...I'm not saying they are/were not out there...)

JUST SHARING A THOUGHT...A glimpse of the pattern in the shitstorm of crap The Media keep shoveling on us to keep us in a dazed and confused frenzy of stupidity... It is a form of psychological manipulation/torture...depending on how you look at it...Apologies for deviating from topic...Now back to the show.....

NOW...correct me if I am wrong, but ALL these 'fixes' seem to not amount to much savings, and/or each exacts an additional cost in the long run...

ie.:

hurt the dollar

send oil prices higher

creating a monopolistic situation

WE COULD drill ANWR...

..but it'll run out...

..SO if we DO tap it..

..it should REALLY be with the forethought that the action is to "BUY TIME"...

..so we can fully explore how to FIX the energy crisis instead of merely putting a band-aid on a broken ankle...

AS AN AFTERTHOUGHT...isn't everything at 'record prices'?...

..I bought a candy bar the other day...Eighty-Five Cents..

Nothing will change until someone has the money and the balls to make an affordable, groundbreaking technology available. Something that uses a cheap form of energy. Someone has to be really outgoing, brilliant, and brave.

And if or when they do, theyll make BILLIONS from it.

Then by legal definition it is not a scooter. At least here in Michigan it is not and as such would be classified as a motorcycle regardless of shape, size or cubic centimeters.

Here is a solution to save some gas money in Michigan.

Tell that bitch that runs the state to drop the speed minimum back down to 45. When did it go up anyway?

Side noe:

I call GWB a cunt so don't even bother getting offended about me calling that whore a bitch.
