Well no. If I got upset every time I saw a comic based movie that wasn't like the movie then I would always be upset.

Think of it this way. The killing joke gave us a look at the jokers past and how he came to be. But just because it was in comic form doesn't make it any more the truth about the joker. Its just the writers take on the history of the joker. Its one of the best looks at how he came to be but that doesn't mean thats how it really happened. So look at the dark knight in the same manner its just another persons take on much loved characters.

Plus on another not I somewhat expected you to be a little let down. I don't know you personally but I don't have to to know how big of a fan you are and how much you built the movie up to be the greatest thing ever and well the higher you hold things up the easier they are to come down. I do hope though that by reading this and by maybe trying to view it as I do that you might enjoy the movie more.

it was souled out for at least three showings consecutivley at two theatres. we couldnt get in. i missed out.

the joker. I feel people don''t really understand the Joker. have you ever been driven out of your mind. your psyche so shattered you displace all concious thought. you go into a state of shock. the blood pressure rises. all you can mutter is shattered fragments of words. no thought will string together. your sub-concious mind won't let you concieve any form of concious thought to protect you from whats happening in that head of yours, and theres nothing left to do but start laughing. you'll never be the same again, once you lose it like that. It takes a special kind of crazy, the kind you chose as an escape what you imagine you let yourself make real like your looking down from above like it's a dream you can't control, might as well make it funny.huh.

to just let youself go like that. to lose your mind. ahhahhha with no thought in your head. that kind of crazy permeates it spreads. once you understand it it takes alot of work and self control to be normal. to resist those impulses. to stop yourself in mid-action as you realize what your doing all the sudden. to not "go with it". I have learned to respect our society because i've seen were we have come from. i understand it takes alot of work to act right and function as a member of our society. I see it as a human accomplishmeant it's beutifull to see what we can accomplish. but the work never stops and there are rewards.

any way I can see the joker the choice he represents in all of mankind. I see him. ahhahahahhhha. and i can understand that when forced to come to that. when faced with that decision many men will take different paths. when you look into yourself and confront it actually face it and don't look away you could get lost like heath ledger. He couldn't look away, it was a scar that won't dissapear. too me the joker was allways halarious, when facing that decision he would instantly say "fu@@ it" and just lose it. And do something funny as hell. Not the overly sadistic type unless it was funny to escape reality of his own mind. to release those shackles.

And if this joker is'nt funny I don't think i want to see it. ( I heard brendon fraiser was the voice of the Joker on the animated series) in my oppinion the animated Joker was by far the best better then jack. I'd say he really didn't understand the role. sounds like unthinkable for most critics to here. Guess they would say I'm crazy .ahahhhhahahahhahhhaa

This is a franchise with characters people have cared about for many decades and in some cases, the fan's entire lifetime. I try to ignore hype since it skews the objectivity of criticism. (Some people buy into it and love it for the sake of hype, some people will hate it as a result of hype- both are misguided).

I'm only concerned that as delectable a film as this will be for the American appetite, it'll only be expelled through the American anus like all other comic book movies. I mean, really, when was the last time you thought about Spiderman 3 in a meaningful way? So yeah, it's fun from time to time to indulge in junk food movies, but I don't sit at the edge of my seat waiting months for my visit to McDonald's no matter how tasty those burgers can be.

LOL. Honestly this is all true. But I think maybe, just maybe this particular one does have some "quality" attached to it. I've not read any reviews as yet (like by the artsy-fartsy critics who I tend to agree with).

im i the only one that was disapointed in the fact that it was nothing like the comics?:confused:

I TRY not to get disapointed becasue as mentioned above, it is inevitable.

When i saw an early teaser for this movie i really got excited becasue i THOUGHT they were going to make The Dark Knight Returns (the frank miller comic miniseries usually mentioned as one of the top 3 comics of all time) into a movie. It does seem to have elements of TDNR, but only elements, from what I could tell.

I am a card carrying geek though, and have card carrying geek friends several of whom dissapeared suddenly around 9:30 pm last night to go get to the theater like an hour and a half before the movie started so they would have a good chance of getting a ticket. Not sure if they did or not.

I'll see it, just for some reason I've lost my desire to "be the first" to see something. Whatever it is I'll get to it eventually. This IS one that needs to be seen on a big screen though I'd think. The more "normal" films can wait for DVD.

YES! this is definatly a film that one needs to see on the big screen before seing it on DVD, otherwise it loses its luster.

I have to say: if this Joker stuck to how all the other Joker's were, on film/tv/whatever, this movie would not have made sence. Not at all.

Quotes from: The Internet Movie Database

Director Christopher Nolan and co-writers Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer decided not to explore the origins of the Joker in order to portray the character as "absolute."

and I am thankful that they did!!!!

It's Sir Michael Caine's opinion that Heath Ledger beat the odds and topped Jack Nicholson's Joker from Batman (1989): "Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath's gone in a completely different direction to Jack, he's like a really scary psychopath. He's a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture." Caine bases this belief on a scene where the Joker pays a visit to Wayne Manor. He'd never met Ledger before, so when Ledger arrived and performed he gave Caine such a fright he forgot his lines.

dont see it. the jokers supposed to be sadistic, (well in pretty much everything but the animated stuff)

Im one of those geeks, as of now ive seen it twice and gotten there at least an hour early but damn if i didnt get the best seats in the house :D i was smart enough to get tickets like a week ago tho *giggle*

i dont think he needed to be like all the other ones i just wish his history wouldve been similar/or the same. . .among other things

once i saw it for a movie and not the comic it was amazing

Well, this isn't like a biopic where we can say, "hey, that didn't really happen! Lincoln didn't shoot back at John Wilkes Booth!!" Because, obviously, none of it really happened.

If they were ever to make a film of material I hold dear, say, The Brothers Karamazov (which CANNOT be filmed) and they removed the Grand Inquisitor portion (which I love) I would not blame them. Not that I wouldn't miss it, but I would give a talented and discriminating director the benefit of the doubt that some stories and methods work better in print than on screen.

Honestly, I felt that exact way about Tom Bombadil in the Lord of the Rings movies. I knew it would be cut before I ever heard anything about it in the press, and that's fine; it was a tangent, and not part of the main tale, veritably screaming to be nipped from a film version. I don't blame the writers or Peter Jackson for that at all; it's just the nature of translating something that massive to film. I have other complaints (and more, the more often I watch the films) but I still think that Jackson performed admirably, and about as well as anyone could with a world that rich and lush.

NPR gave it the two thumbs up on my way home today, thats usually a good sign. Rarely have they steered me wrong.

I saw the movie just this afternoon. The Joker is my new god.

Only criticism I would have is that Two Face was really pushed off to the side, which is unfortunate, as he was a pretty decent villian in his own right.

The actress replacement (between this one and Batman Begins) bugged me a little a bit cause I don't like it when main cast actors get switched around in good movies.

Other than that I thought it was nice to walk out of theater for the first time in a very long time, and not feel ripped-off.

I was grateful for the replacement. You really only need one two face per film, and katie's half paralyzed mug is distracting. Plus, no one cares if she dies or not.

yeah. there will never be a beter joker than this one. the aspect of him as an element of nature that exist in men. an agent of chaos. I allways thought of it as a joke when people told me thay were an agent of chaos. now i get the joke.

i really got touched by this movie. i'm finding it alot harder to control those impulses, i'm seeing everything i value as insignificant, i'm seeing life as a story or just a show to watch. how much you want to shine is just a matter of how much fun you let yourself have. I can't keep the smile off my face.

all i can think about is my sole voice laughing in that crowded theatre, when no one else was laughing. I wanted to shoot the lady next to me in the face, cause it was funny. I had to stop my self. I guess i wanted to let people see it in the news. women shot for no reason in crowded theatre. No for me but for the world. I'm not a dog though. I can't stop thinking about that loud nois the flash the smell the terror. Bang. But i can stop myself and consider consiquence. A psychopath doesn't have that ability. still it's alot harder to stop myself when i see how much fun it is. I got to not even get up an just sit and watch the rest of the film let the urge pass by. for a moment everthing that kept me sane seems like backround in my head, like it's not really me and i can't take those things seriously at the moment. Who am i speaking with the board or myself. the ultamite joke. everyone thinks at the end of the film "to bad he's dead they can't make another one" and in my mind I could here the joker laughing as everyone thought that. the ultamite joke.

on the film, the film the movie was bigger then just the joker. it was amazing there will never be a better batman anything. the cast the crew the whole thing, no one came off as an actor they just put in work, morgan freeman you would'nt even notice him unless his name was'nt in the credits. another thing that made it great was it's lack of samuel l jackson who allways plays the same role as samuel l jackson and is in every third film to come out since 2000. best movie since iron man. a complete work. and life changing for some folks.

i can't lose my mind if i chose to keep my sanity. all i have to do is remember that things you do can't ever go away.

+1

IMO, if you want the comic, then read the fucking comic and stay out of the theaters. If you want the book, then read the fucking book and stay out of the theaters. If you want the movie, then you're more than welcome to sit next to me.

Loved it and I'm not a fan of Batman to begin with.

Really liked it! I guess I can see where comic fans might be disappointed, because this one seemed much more gritty and realistic, as opposed to the cartoonish/fairytale nature of the previous movies. As someone who doesn't like comic books in the first place, though, I really enjoyed it. And I'm soooooo glad they did not bring back Katie Holmes!

I was glued the entire movie. It certainly did not dissapoint! Two thumbs all the way. This joker was more of a organized crime boss turned terrorist. It rocked so much, I am giddy just typing this.

What a brilliant movie!!!

I was awed by Heath L. performance as the Joker. HE WAS AMAZING... it's sad that he will no longer endure into his bizarre characters... :confused:Jack N. 's shoes are pretty big to fill and I think he just scored a new size ^_^.

Now between the different versions of Batman.. every director/producer has a different prospective when they are filming. So no .. I did not expect the movie to be just like the previous one or the comic (if it was then what's the point in making a new one huh?)

Now for some reason Christian Bale just doesn't do for me .. I can't picture him as Batman (my ideal Batman is still Michael Keaton), I mean he was great as Bruce Wayne it was just something about the way his lips moved when he was in the Bat suit...creeeeeeaaappyyyy....

I was glad to see Katie Holmes removed from the movie.. Maggie G. rocked the house ^_^ she was fierce and bold...

So much more to say but I do not want to spoil the movie...

honestly...I think that Bale is the best person FOR batman...the FULL CHARACTER of Batman. I will admit that Micheal Keaton is good as batman...but there as always something about him that didn't have the full look of Bruce wayne for me....maybe iw as the curly pompador.

Bale, on the other hand, has this....effect as Bruce Wayne...he has the slicked back hair...the looks..the build..the ability to play TWO characters in a single movie, which is what you need for Batman.

And then he is Batman....cold, calculating...an agent of justice through fear. Even his voice in the Batsuit...it would be very hard to tell that he is Bruce Wayne is Batman because of the vocals.

plus...there is that...edge to Bale that no one can touch....because we seen him in American Psycho and in Prestige...and there is that bit of cruelty to him that makes you look at him and go..."yeah...your a badass"...

actually i loved the dark aspect in relation to the comics!!! if you look up the history on the joker he really is quite demented/sychotic/evil. a lot of the mainstream comics and shows cartoonize it to make it appropriate for everyone!

Ledger, Ledger, Ledger, Gyllenhaal, Ledger, Bale, Bale, Ledger, Ledger, Ledger, Gyllenhaal, Bale, Ledger ...

I would just like to bring up: Gary Oldman.

Oldman is one of those actors, you see his name in the opening credits and you think, "Oh, Gary Oldman. I love that guy. I'll have to keep my eye open for him." But then you watch the movie and you completely forget he was in it until the closing credits where you say, "Oh shit. That was Gary Oldman? How did I miss that?" It's because Oldman is not an actor playing a role. He is the character. In every movie he's ever done, he's just so believable as the character you forget that it's Gary Oldman. So in The Dark Knight you have wonderful actors doing excellent jobs with their roles, but Oldman is Gordon.

Oh, and did I mention Ledger, Ledger, Bale, Gyllenhaal, Ledger, Cain, Freemen, Eckhart, and Ledger?

If the Joker thinks the other characters are idiots, very well. But if the writer thinks I need every goddamn character trait spelled out for me in monologue then it is an insult.

The man has a good point.
