Angry librarians fight for your privacy

I have a library card.

I USE my library card.

I like my library because I went in there a few weeks ago and said 'I would like kids music that doesn't suck'. The librarian promptly pulled up a page on her computer that read, no joke here, 'Kids music that doesn't suck' She was all like 'You don't think you're the first person who ever wanted this, do you?'

Amazing. Just amazing.

Oh yeah, and it's nice that they watch out for our privacy, too. :)

I know a librarian. She is very kind, and I am lucky to know her. What the world needs now, are more librarians.

:innocent: I am thankful.

In highschool I couldn't fucking believe that I couldn't check out Huckfinn, turns out its a banned book. There is a whole list of band books, it blows my mind. Mostly classics, Huckfinn, Farhrenheit 451, Catcher in the Rye, Catch 22 ect.

I found out that Barnes and Noble is a censorer-banner supporter, I refuse to buy from them.

I know a librarian, she use to post here, but not anymore. She was/is awesome, and one of the most articulate and intelligent ppl I have had the pleasure of knowing in MI.

I'm not sure. It varies by state. It wouldn't surprise me.

a city near me ( Aberystwyth) still has a ban on Monty Python's the Life of Brian, even though the actress who plays Brian's Girlfriend is now the mayor of the town

K has a thing for librarians too lols

Well I thought when you used the library internet they get your name for that and just figured it was a matter of government record...had no idea they wanted to know what books you read to.

Good for librarians! Its true, the government is using scare tactics to force us to subdue...nothing new.

Librarians are hot, no matter what they do..

I clicked the subject with the express purpose of saying that. :wink

"checking out a biography of Osama Bin Laden could prompt seizure of their library records" or that "online searches create traceable records that make them vulnerable to questioning by the FBI."

I find it slightly ironic that Fahrenheit 451 is banned, considering the storyline....!

I still think it's weird how they banned Catcher in the Rye. I mean, I know why they did, but they went a little too extreme about it IMO.

What's ironic though is that in 9th grade it was required reading for us. The teacher had to go and specially order it though and not let the school know due to the fact that it's banned. I feel retarded now though because I can't even remember what it was about...I only know WHY they banned it.

It's all about the lawsuit lottery. People think that schools are a bottomless pit of government money. Every school is different as to what it allows and doesn't. Seems like every school (just about) that I've worked in bans what ever a parent complains about. Too much swearing out it goes (Catcher in the Rye). Puts blacks in a so called negative perspective by refering to them using the "N" word (Tom Sawyer/ Huck Finn). Thank the laywers for things that are banned in schools. I do know of cases where parents have gone "shopping" for schools to sue looking for out of court settlements. One such mother obtained a settlement from a school that I worked at because she said teachers were discrimating againt her son, I didn't witness it and it was very unlikely in that very liberal school (I heard that it was the 3rd such settlement she was awarded though). Likewise people fake "slip and fall" accidents in grocery stores, and being hit by public busses for the cash award they get for faking it. Lawyers feed off of such lawsuits.
