Vermina needs a home!

So, Ophelia rejected another rat the other day. In the process of taking it in & out of Ophelia's cage several times, I discovered that this is an amazingly sweet little ratty. She's sitting on my shoulder as I type, tickling my neck with her whiskers. Feeder rats usually take a LOT of socialization... my classroom rats are still not handle-able. But she's just docile as can be.

Ordinarily, when Ophelia refuses live prey, it goes to Tokagemaru's savannah monitor. But I just can't bring myself to feed little Vermina Nezumi to anything. I dunno, maybe we have a bond from a past incarnation. Who knows. All I know is I can't keep her. Can't just toss her in w/my classroom rats (currently summering in my basement), they're both males & I am NOT going into the rat-breeding biz! Plus their cage is way too small even for two. And I REALLY can't afford to get another cage, bedding, and another rat to keep Vermina company. So, if anyone wants a rat, or knows someone who does, this is the best one you could ever hope to find!

I'll take some pix as soon as she's back in her temporary home, she's white with dark-brown markings and at the smaller end of the rat size range. Oh yeah, added bonus: she uses one area of the cage for a toilet area, so she should use a litter box with no problem!

(eeeyew, she just peed down my back. But she's STILL a little sweetie!)

Vermina Nezumi

My oldest Chihuahua is named Nezumi. We call him Zoomy for short, but when I got him at 8 weeks, he was about the size of a rat, so I named him Nezumi. :)

Happy ending! Out of the blue, a lady responded to a flyer I posted at Pet Supplies Plus, way back in early June, for someone to rat-sit my classroom rats over the summer. She's had rats as pets in the past, and thought this would be a good way to introduce her kids to them. So she was really pleased that I had a rat in need of a permanent home, too. She is very nice and her kids seem well behaved... the little girl was really excited to have a rat of her own. They loved Vermina (who wouldn't, she really is an amazingly sweet little critter) and April (mom) wasn't fazed by Lucky & Mr. Nibbles not being handle-able. In fact she seemed eager to help with their socialization program. So Vermina has a loving family of her own now, and Lucky & Mr. Nibbles don't have to spend the next month in my dank gloomy basement.

Only worry is that now Angel the bunny is down the basement all by herself... and after my surgery Friday I won't be able to go down there & interact with her... I have people coming over to help me with pet care, but no one's likely to have time to just hang out with Angel. So if anyone wants to care for a very sweet bunny for the next month, please PM or hit me up on Myspace!

Bunny care requirements:

Space for a large cage

Safe space for her to run around at least 1/2 hr daily (she will chew on any electrical cords she can find so the space needs to be bunny-proofed)

Able to provide fresh greens daily (a bunch of greens- NOT lettuce- costs about $1.50 and will last her at least a week)

No mean dogs who will eat her!
