thats not true Islam though....thats the same style of warped fanaticism that Osama Bin Laden used.

and honestly...have you seen the videos of the security in China right now??? I would almost pity anyone that gets caught trying to fuck up the games this year. China is NOT PLAYING around. They are dead serious about this, and I will gurantee you that they make daily scans of the entire Olympic Areas, checking for anything out of ordinary.

Still, one crazy exremist sucide bomber can still do plenty of damage with very little means of stopping them.

pretty much...i agree KBK.

If you know nothing of the religion, but only pay attention to the extremists of said religion

your making yourself look pretty bad.

I've read the Qur'an, and most of Sharia law. I have also read a number of Fatwa's that have been issued over the years.

I don't find Islam to be all that peaceful or respectful of other people's cultures or religions.

Violent, hateful and stuck in the dark ages are closer to an accurate description to me.

WOW...sarcasm so deep I actually recognized it....out of sheer absurdity...

..I hope that you can show me a Religion not built on DEATH!

I'll take that challenge

Buddhism is built on the purpose of ultimate spiritual enlightenment of self, called Nirvana, and therefore becoming one with everything.

Taoism is a Far Eastern religion build on the purpose of peace through understanding and respect for all things, through it's base teaches of the Three Jewels of the Tao: compassion, moderation, and humility.

Cao Dai is very similar to Taoism, except that instead of working on peace through understanding and respect, practitioners seek to free themselves from the wheel of death and life through prayer, veneration of the deceased, and vegetarianism

ok Rev..have at.

I know Tao..it literally means 'way' so...it does not qualify as a 'Religion' per say...more a 'Spiritual Path'...

To back this up I will expound thus(ly):

There is no G*D in Tao...only Divinity...and everything is makes up Divinity...but has not name...

There are no Commandments only 'ways of doing things'...

Cao Đài is a relatively new, syncretist*, monotheistic religion, officially established in Tây Ninh, southern Vietnam, in 1926.

*Syncretism consists of the attempt to reconcile disparate or contradictory beliefs, often while melding practices of various schools of thought. The term may refer to attempts to merge and analogize several originally discrete traditions, especially in the theology and mythology of religion, and thus assert an underlying unity allowing for an inclusive approach to other faiths.

I have found in my more resent studies a good number of 'Modern Religions' that are wholesome in the way we are speaking of. Like:

ThELEMA (perverts but not warmongers)

Scientology (way cooler than they seem :wink )

Discordian / Erisian Alliances...(we fight against war)

The Collective Sects of Wicca...

...

...

...

Buddhism.....HAHAHA.....

That's the most recent thing I have heard.....years ago another monk..in robes..stormed India's Parliament...and shot some people.

I was FUCKIN' ecstatic.

Also...it is the most non-Religious Religion from Ancient time...it's like, barley a Religion...

Next...!?

Wow. Way to discount the religions of millions of people because they don't fit with your world view. How openminded and accepting of you.

The actual teachings of Christ are "peace-centric" (and the world would be a much better place if people actually lived by them). Everything else in there pretty well fits the "violent, hateful..." description.

it's true - budhism is not a religion, it's a philosophy, a way of life. there is no worship of an outside, external deity, no mother/father figure to whom one petitions via "prayer". the "buddhas" who've come along are not gods, but enlightened people who try to teach what they understand to others. there is no "god says you have to do this, or he won't like you or let you into paradise".

buddhism is right out, in the context of this challenge, in my (and many people's) opinion...

A religion is a set of beliefs and practices, often centered upon specific supernatural and moral claims about reality, the cosmos, and human nature, and often codified as prayer, ritual, or religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.

then what separates a religion from a cult, by these definitions?

Posted

Not a whole hell of a lot. Mostly.. a Cult is any religion views to be false. So, every religion is a cult to a non-believer.

Why you always gotta' be a dick? I mean really... when the fuck was I trying to insult anyone?

Can you not see.. I have studied these things, for a great deal of my life. The Buddha is very important to me. As is Yesu. As is Moshiah. As is Hallie Sellasie I. As is Merathin. As is Alester Crowley. As is ..... and not one greater than another.

Where did I accuse you of insulting anyone.. except now where you just called me a dick?

I said you discounted the answer because it did not fit your preconceived view. I accused you of being close minded on the subject.

You were wrong, deal with it.

Where was that???

I asked WHY YOU HAD TO ALWAYS BE A DICK.

To me you see...to discount another beliefs is an affront and an insult.

I do not like people putting words in my mouth.

You were wrong, deal with it.

Tell that to the man who has been Buddhist since before you were born..

Tell that to them ALL!

You are the one thats said the Buddhism and Taosim are not religions. Not me.

My Father was a Buddhist... all his life. We had a stupa in our back yard.

My Father-in Law is a Zen-Buddhist. I travel to his place once a month to pray at his stupa and meditate.

If I have a major decision to make.. I pray to God, meditate and then do the I-Ching.

It's as close I come to going to Church.

And thats the most I have ever said about my personal religous practices on this board.

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
