I wondered about it long and hard. What is more baffling is that if you look at their profile they'll be "online" yet it'll say something like Last Login: May 12, 2006. I've noticed it happening for probably about a year now.

I think Troy explained this somewhere once and it's some sort of glitch/bug in the system. I can't remember the exact details about it though.

No no, it's not like that, when those people are "logged in" they really aren't. It's a glitch in the system that registers old users as being online when really they aren't.
